Xerri feels a lot like Tim English in 2023 and we know how he went in 2024…
I tend to disagree - English was a huge loser from the ruck rule changes as it meant bigger rucks could easily hold him out of the contest. While I don't have stats at hand, I definitely noticed how much he was impacted, with a reduced ruck impact and less ability to take possession from the ruck or stay involved in the play. Barring some other rule change, I don't see Xerri being impacted in that same way.

In relation to English, consideration also needs to be given to the change in style from the Dogs from a high stoppage game to mid table given I feel this too often gets dismissed or not given similiar weighting as the rule change.

Thought I'd post this as a quick reference point and following up Shannon's earlier post.

The question. Is whether this makes it too hard to start with GC, Collingwood, Sydney and Geelong premiums. They have 2 byes before Adelaide, Melbourne or West coast have any. Not really a factor for rookies, but premiums maybe. Don’t think it will impact me picking Mills or BSmith as underpriced options, but gives me reason to wait on Holmes, Naicos and Flanders. I see those three as upgrade targets now, and less as starting picks. Just gotta hope they don’t get out of range too quick.

Non SC plus subscribers should be able to sign up to BBL and access a free trial of SC Plus thus providing access to the team pickers for AFL SC and NRL SC.
Got the message when editing my BBL team that my SC Plus trial ends today, so it's only a short term deal.

I should see if I can find time over the weekend to recreate my Excel team picker from a few years ago (if I can find it), should be possible with the data Beg2Differ provided. Definitely wasn't flashy but it seemed to work.

Regardless of what you decide to do re: early byes and who you decide to leave out or include, I find that the main underlying issue towards the back portion of the season is, a lack of trades left, so any way you can figure out to save trades earlier in the season surely has to be better than the alternative, being short on trades at the end of the season when you need them the most.

Adelaide, Melbourne and West Coast have the round 0 bye.

The AFL can really get stuffed with these early byes. Impossible to field a decent team opening week then not have to waste trades.

10 years ago, Supercoach players who put in time and effort into researching and unearthing breakout players or key rookies were more heavily (or at least consistently) rewarded. Now unfortunately, the Herald Sun releases the 'cheat sheet' every year which means my 3 year old daughter could feasibly be in the top 1000 early in the season without the ability to read...
I understand that it takes a lot more than that to actually win it, but it is a bit exhausting to be so far behind the pack if you stuff up a ruckman for example.
Can always select the % tab in SC to see whose being picked by coaches. The funny thing with all these youtubers last few years is the sheer number of team updates they post. Its insane. Starting team, first training reports on whose flying team update, after 1st round pre seas team update, 2nd praccy update, new update team update, last team update etc etc further once one posts a team, or POD you will see them all do it.

I think the number of trades now is where the games changed, its a sprint and hang on more than ever

My provisional 2025 team:

DEF:
Newman, Baker, Mills
Hardeman, Coleman, Travaglia

Allan, El-Hawli

MID:
H.Young, Petracca, J.Dawson
O'Sullivan, J.Smith, Draper
Ashcroft, Langford, Smilie

Lindsay, M.Reid, K.Brown

RUCK:
TDK, English

Campbell

FWD:
Francis, Smith, J.Macrae,
Sam Darcy, Bolton, Daniel

Lynch, Kako

Sum: $9,594,980

While we have been blessed this year with an exceedingly talented draft, I am worried about my dependency on rookies which comprise my midfield. Hopefully they all generate enough cash so I can swoop on Daicos, Bont, Merret, etc once they have fallen to a reasonable price.
i think mid rookies are the flavour this year. All have been invested in as ready to go by teams that have seen the success of starting naicos, sheezel, wilson, reid, mckercher, ashcroft and how well thats turned out. Tiges will play their top picks, jagga smith will play early has had senior exposure. I think Langfords a starter, Draper, Ashcroft, O Sullivan at North, all these kids look good to go. Interesting to see how Pies play Ed Allen, the kid coulda been top 5 Pies got a steal
