So you pick a guy out of position, on juicy pitches against the world's best bowler and then drop him after 3 games?

But you don't drop the 38 year old who's batting in position who's performed just as well?
Not a member of the Boys Club , needed to make a change so he becomes the scapegoat.

Now they probably will make Inglis open and let Konstas "learn from the experience"

Tell the kid he is guaranteed the next 2 Tests.

Yeah there are whispers around Inglis opening, but hopefully that's just whispers.

I guess the selectors have figured that throwing a 19 year old into open, in a must win game makes more sense with an experienced opener at the other end?

Also heard a rumour that Usman is going to retire after Sydney. Don't know if it's true, but CA are basically doing another Warner, if so. Just against tougher opposition. and when the series is on the line.

The boys club, dictate when they finish playing...

The other way to look at it, is do you really want 2 kids with 3 tests between them opening the innings against Bumrah in a must win test?

Or do you back the experienced guy to perform?

And just on the whole boys club thing... I'm not sure I see it. Yes there are guys who are out of form, but the problem is there aren't too many alternatives.

Drop Marsh? He's the reigning AB medalist so he's done ok recently. Drop Ussie? There not too many openers banging the door down. Drop Marnus? The logical replacement is probably McSweeney, but he hasn't looked great. Smith had plenty of people calling for his head before last test match too.

**Cynical approach** Or make a scapegoat of McSweeney, whilst waiting to see if Konstas maintained his early season form.

Selectors have made some ordinary decisions of late.

Why can't the selectors make tough calls? Why keep a player with an average of 16 in your side?

If you want them to regain form, or keep them on their toes, let them know they can be dropped. That's the boys club mentality.

No question and it started with making Smith opener (although that did put Green to 4 which didn't work out too bad).

What was Steve Smith averaging recently before Brisbane? He could have been dropped but they persisted and it worked out.

I'm sure they know that if Ussie gets dropped, he's not coming back and the team won in Adelaide and were on top in Brisbane.

If there was an opener banging the door down, would Ussie still be there?

This will be a interesting selection to see if the selectors are looking to the short term or long term future

Australia A v England Lions is Jan 30 - Feb 2

1st Test in Sri Lanka starts the Day before, so if Khawaja & Head/Maxwell is the plan in Sri Lanka , surely then Konstas plays the Australia A game.

1 Konstas
2 Hunt (?)
3 McSweeney
4 Davies , O (?)
5
6 Webster if not in Sri Lanka

Bancroft & Harris papers must be stamped

Is Renshaw still in the mix ?

Connolly might be in Sri Lanka

Doran & Jason Sangha maybes

Shield doesn't resume until Feb 8 , so what form can they use for this game ?

CA XI games are Jan 14 - 17 & 22 - 25 , probably won't pull guys out of the BBL so do they look at the likes of Clayton , Goodwin , Lovell etc

What's happened with Teague Wyllie ?

Surely the CA XI games should have some guys who can potentially play Test cricket in the future

Need to start following the BCCI set up with their A team , some guys are being exposed to 20-30 A "Tests" before playing for the National team.

Get out A team over to England during the winter to play the Lions & Ireland , Netherlands & Scotland.

Start playing more 4 day games in August/September in the Top End against other countries A teams.

How long do you persist is the question? Marnus is back where he left off... All because of one innings.

True, re the openers, but I don't think there would be too many players putting their hands up to be an opener, knowing you could be dropped so quickly, even if you're playing out of position. The mistake occurred, as you pointed out, last season with Smith and Warner.

If they are picking Konstas now, I reckon they take him to Sri Lanka.

But yeah, side may be similar to the Aus A sides against India.

Not sure with Wyllie... Looks like he hasn't played much this season (just the 1 Shield game).

I just hope Bailey comes out on Sunday /Monday (whenever they meet up) and say right Konstas is going to debut.

Media talk I know but when you see Inglis bandied around and even Marsh and Webster as make shift openers , seriously just pick him and say you are playing the 4th & 5th Test

If they don't play him in Sri Lanka much rather he plays Australia A and Shield than running cordial

I had a quick scan down the Most Shield Runs and couldn't find Wyllie , seem to recall something about a shoulder injury but not sure that was this season or last

I'd hope Marnus isn't back where he left off... But by the same token I hope he's got a little more rope then he had prior to Adelaide.

And once again, the problem is who do you replace Marnus with? Smith at 3? McSweeney at 3?

The other problem is that by giving Warner a send off, there's and expectation they'll do that for the next guy. Hopefully that's the case.
