Just going through the process of looking for value with a couple of C/VC options.

I've made some considerations around the byes, particularly the early ones where I think I can get away with missing one or two players, round 3 is obviously the most awkward where I have Mills, Smith and Holmes (flex) missing and is also the reason why I'm not starting Daicos, he'll be in eventually along with Sheezel, just hoping they don't hurt too much in the meantime.

The obvious value is in the forwards and I, along with the majority, will be starting Fab 4. Lynch's price is just too low to ignore, all track reports are indicating a trouble free preseason (so far) his durability is a concern and he'll be managed throughout the season missing games here or there so I'll be treating him like any other rookie. Fading JHF until after his bye, I don't think he'll hurt too much from a price perspective but if his ownership looks too high then might just have to have him. JHF might be a better proposition than Holmes in the Flex position.

I reckon I'll take punt on Rivers if his transition to a full time mid continues and I can't see a reason why it wont considering McVee can hold down the HB position along with the addition of Xavier Lindsay, I'd think his average would be 100+ and DPP status doesn't hurt either. There's a couple of others around that price point, Short and McKercher, but I have doubts about their production and roles, Short should be playing off HB but his defensive efforts over the last couple of years have dropped right off and there's a few blokes that could fill the HB position like Ralphsmith, Trezise, Smith & Brown. McKercher looks like playing higher up the ground, probably on the wing, so will be missing the kickouts and cheap possessions.

Mills and Peatling could both well be priced 25-30 pts under, I'm planning on Peatling being one of my final upgrades during the byes and effectively having a position on field that won't have a bye. Lynch could well be in the same boat.

I see Travaglia, Lindsay, Smillie, Tauru, Curtain and Hewett as being the most productive of the rookies. Draper, Lalor, Lombard look like they'll debut early but predominately forward. Not sure about Jagga, he's very slight and might need to bulk up a bit before being exposed, although he did perform well against the bigger bodies in the Magoos. Sims is just sitting there waiting for Boyd. There's about $70k sitting ITB for rookie adjustments and I think that I've allocated enough capital on them to not have to pull the team apart to grab one that I've missed.

How does everyone see the Adelaide midfield rotation working out this year?

They finished the year with the main 4 being Crouch, Dawson, Soligo and Berry.

Throwing in Peatling to the mix is it as simple as Berry out for Peatling and Laird continues in the HB role?

If Peatling gets the role he is well underpriced as mentioned in this thread and Laird could be a chance for a defender upgrade post DPP.

Reckon its in for a shakeup.
Specifically relating to Peatling, he was drafted with a role in mind on good money.
Cant see him not increasing in value.

If he is last upgrade winner winner.

It would be nice to have Dawson and Laird at HB. Have Dawson play the Houston role and let Crouch, Soligo, Peatling, Rankine and Berry/Draper/Dowling rotate.

@KLo30 in case of any interest, based on Beg2Differ's work, have put together a simple team picker for those without Gold.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...ouid=115513026271900334359&rtpof=true&sd=true

It should be accessible to anyone with the link.

You might need to save a copy of it or download it to be able to edit.

This is what it looks like, you just pick your players via drop down (you can start typing in a name in a cell, like 'oliver' in the MIDs, and the top name it will narrow the range down to is Clarry, then Ollie Dempsey and whoever, fairly straightforward)

Basic way it works:

Figured some might be interested in who has what discount, what folks are 'priced to average etc., that is in there, too.

Anyway, might be of use to a couple who want to scratch the itch.

@Rowsus not sure if there's some other thread / location this would better be placed in. If there is, feel free to move.

Bugger! Now you've done it! Got me started!

I've reconciled myself to the point that I now know how much of a tease Rowell can be, his game style is unsustainable. By that I mean he goes so hard and intensely at the start of the season that he burns himself out, pretty much exemplified by his debut season where he smashed it for 4 rounds then couldn't play for the rest of the year. He has fits and spurts where he looks like a world beater but then falls in a heap.

He's awesome when he's manic and 'on' but can't maintain that level of intensity for a full season, let alone half of it. What let's him down is the lack of an outside or marking game.

What's frustrating is that I knew that but was still sucked in by that 7-8 game stretch.

Fool me once, then shame on you, fool me twice then shame on me
The victim blaming and self-shame must stop. The Orange Roughie is gaslighting and manipulating us into not trusting our own lying eyes.
On a serious note, you’ve summed it up well, he just has no real spread, doesn’t keep the scoreboard ticking over with the odd receive outside the contest and he was a fish out of water when they played him forward (not sure if it was genuinely to try to add strings to his bow or if he was maybe labouring / carrying something, because he looked pretty flat and slow at times, no zip)

Think it’s just very hard to maintain his style, as you say.

From the screenshots, this looks better than the picker I provided earlier in the topic (See post 409). Similar, but better presented, and with a lot more info for each player. Good job.

I do like the stats on discounts/averages etc. Handy. Doesn't look like there's any huge bargains from that screenshot though.

I'll have to have a better look at it later today, but definitely looks the goods.

So I've decided I'm committed to trying a new strategy which involves keeping around 400k in the bank.

The idea is to start with a few more midpricers and low end premiums and start upgrading earlier than everyone else who is waiting for cash generation from rookies.

It means that apart from bont and 3 gun rucks, I don't have any top end premiums. I'm hoping that with DPP flexibility I can start upgrading midpricers by round 5 which may be a round or 2 earlier than your average team.

Instead of waiting for rookies to appreciate enough I'll be boosting and hopefully doing 2 up, 1 down for a while.

Theory being that premiums bottom out earlier than rookies max out so keeping money spare allows early upgrades that aren't really feasible with rookies. Mid pricers max out quicker than rookies too so it will likely be trading midpricers to guns.

Why I'm doing this? I've never been very successful with AFL SC so part of me wants to try something a bit outlandish. Secondly, there are so many midpriced forward line options that I'm happy to take as many as possible. I also like the low end premiums/high end midpricers in the midfield so I think the strategy has some merit this season.

Looking forward to giving it a crack regardless of how it turns out!
