Curious for thoughts on Sutherland generally. At this stage I basically have him as a hedge for Bethell (they'll get at least four overs between them, after all) but the role is deteriorating by the day and his batting hasn't been good enough to make up for it. I actually think Wells in really hurts him because Wells actually knows how to bat in the middle overs unlike the entire rest of their team.

He does, however, fit into the category of "captains who insist on being more involved in the game" potentially even to the team's detriment.

At the moment I have him as E but could swing Turner back in to that spot instead.
Sutherland feels a bit underwhelming to me as well, but I think he’s a hold, with a few key positives:

- He is averaging 60 despite seemingly not playing that well

- He has only lost (I think) one over all season to his teammates. He has lost a couple more to opponents running down totals early (which admittedly could recur). Equally Fergus, Richo and Zampa have all underwhelmed, so I probably don’t see Chief’s overs as being at massive risk.

- He has consistently batted at 7. I thought he might go up the order more frequently as captain. Maybe this is an upside risk, or maybe it’s modest downside versus last season. He batted at 5 and 6 once each last year.

- He has a quick 18 to his name. This could have added a lot of SR points had he got to 20.

I wouldn’t be a fan of this. I spend enough time crying into my pillow after each game as it is. The last thing I need is my score going backwards.

Furthermore does this mean we penalise batsmen for low strike rates?

The one variation that I could probably live with (but still don’t love) is if this would apply but the player score can’t be negative. At least that makes it harder for a bowler to rescuing his score with wickets if he has been super expensive. A zero score is enough penalty for any player regardless of how bad they have been.

if he is sub 150k price he should be in pretty much everyone's team imo. Hard to bet against him at that point.

Honestly find his output a little underwhelming with both bat and ball given how obviously great his actual skillset looks at times.

Don't know if the bloke get tired, but always seems to start seasons so well and then falls off as the rounds progress.

Based on the 'available through the regular season' for a bunch of the test squad, I'd surprised if anyone's availability was affected.

I wonder if CA told Uzzie and Marnus they didn't score enough runs to play more than 1 game :ROFLMAO:
CricInfo article has a bit more info.

Departure has now changed from the 19th to 19th or 20th and could be staggered

I'd love to know what Smith gets restricted to three games, where as Marnus and Khawaja get restricted to one game, despite Smith having a greater workload.
Be looking for a new team if I was the Heat player(s) getting dropped for 1 game

2 games at the SCG for Smith = 💰

Bethel, Allen or Edwards for final trade?
I’d lean towards Allen as his BE is nearly as low as possible. Bethel looks to be a good pick up later as he seems to be guaranteed a few overs a game as a number 2 spinner at the Renegades. Overall Allen has the ceiling but Bethel has a better role (Maxwell-esque)

Speaking of Heat players, I wonder if Jimmy Pierson moves clubs.

Made 72 not out of 56 balls first game, always been a quality keeper & played the first 3 or 4 games before making way for Tom Banton for a few games now Tom Alsop.

Found that recruiting decision strange by the heat.
