Game 1: 2/187 - Green (e taken), Billings (e taken unless Shaw plays)
Game 2: 3/675 - Bethell (e taken), Owen, Meredith, Chaudhary (v taken), Ellis, David, Sutherland, Zampa

That's how it is supposed to work.

After enduring a poor run (and complaining about it constantly) I had a massive stroke of luck with the Jordan out tonight. I wanted Owen however couldn't afford him without trading Maxwell and losing the ability to take Bethell's score if I needed to. I was going to settle for Wade (not the worst btw). The Jordan out allowed me to trade him instead of Maxwell and get Owen who I could afford by $200. I still haven't got a wicket out of my captain since round 4 (R5 Dwarshius, R6 Sutherland, R7 Stoinis) however Chaudhary delivered a quickish 20 and my first C score over the teens since R4.

This feels a bit like the birdie you get on 18th after hacking around for 17 holes and thinking this isn't so hard after all.

edit: got a bit excited and forgot to count my e's in players completed.

Jordan OUT means only carrying 2 Hurricanes, Doran means goodbye to Billings' score.
Taking on the Hurricanes (plus the above) not looking to be a great decision after their 1st game with all the popular scoring well, but I'll defer the result of that decision until the close of Round 9.

5/828. Bethell, Green & Owen were huge. Trades ended up being Harper, Macdonald and Jordan -> Owen, Meredith & Ellis. Chaudary VC. Have dropped Doran's score out assuming he doesnt play the 2nd game and Overton and S.Johnson are able to beat it. Only disappointing part of the night was Jordan missing. Having got him in last week over Ellis it forced me to play Zampa who i was never keen on fielding and also meant people could pivot to some other high scoring Hurricane players. Not having David or Wade stings after their last few overs. Doran on field over Seifert should cost only 3 points if Zampa is my 11th player, probably worth the risk.

Interesting game where nearly all the relevant Canes put up a decent score. Only ended up with 3 of them after having to trade Jordan.

Wade was probably the only frustrating miss considering I was priced out of him, I don’t think I would’ve pivoted had I got him as I still would’ve expected him to be in that top 4.

Owen the other annoying miss only due to popularity, never considered him but the amount of fielding points and overs due to an injury was kind of ridiculous (yes I am a Seifert owner).

3/265 vc Stanlake
Stanlake was very unlucky, had a catch dropped in his 1st, then takes a magnificent catch and hurts his shoulder and is unable to bowl again.

I've had to get inventive with trades, had to trade DC and Agar to a serviceable McAndrew and a wicketless Hatzoglou. Now dealing with Lynn being ruled out, McDermott currently onfield, hoping he plays game 2 vs Doran who probably gets dropped. My only other cane was Chaudhary, so I'll be relying on my SGR's with 1 trade left to cover Lynn, undecided who yet. Have funds to go to Matt Short.
Fantastic to see some huge scores being posted and to those that planned well for this round. Those with Green and Bethel are in the box seat.

4/665 - Ellis VC. Being well and truly propped up by Bethell and Green after skipping the Owen/Meredith combo. Ellis, Wade, Chaudhary and Hatz with a game to come plus Bartlett, Overton, Edwards and whoever I bring in from my final trade. I'd say my score is decent for now, but a lot will come down to how the Thunder guys go in game 2.

4/569 Owen

Following Jordan's omission, I decided to take a punt on McDermott as my starting WKP and set Doran as the (E). Here's hoping he will return against the Heat! Worst-case scenario I will receive Doran's score...

Trades:
Stoinis > Owen
Allen > Chaudhary
Jordan > Meredith

It's an unusual situation, I'm pleased with my trades and VC decision, but I can't help but feel I'm behind the 8-ball. Missing the Bethell and Green duo has really hurt. While it's far from ideal, I can find some relief knowing:
  • 1st has Green but doesn't have Bethell
  • 3rd has neither
However, this has definitely opened the door for the chase pack!

The remainder of the round is out of my control, so here's hoping lady luck is on my side over the next 48 hours.

3/617 (Wade). A good score on paper but given the monsters on here, it is hard to tell where the line for a good score lies atm. Owen, Meredith, David good, VCd Wade thinking he would open but it still worked out okay. Keeping Bethell obviously paid off. The score discounts Doran who will likely drop off.

The Jordan out, and minimal time to do much other than quickly get him out meant I didn't have a lot of time to think things through - it was a quick Ellis or Smith decision. I went with the less owned, more in form option. Time will tell if that bites me. That late call meant I also put an E on Bethell (originally in my starting line up before Jordan wasn't named) and reverse traded Doran back on field - a clear mistake given I now won't be able to access whatever Dwarshius gets.

M Short, Smith and Abbott tonight.
