Agree rookie priced players (not pure rookies) will have a huge influence on final structures. There seems to be a lot of $150k-200k options at the moment. Currently I do not think Mills and Coleman combo is a likely starting option. It is hard to know if Coleman will be ready. If he is held back a game or two you cannot start him.

Mills is dependent on role which hopefully we will have a better idea following pre season games and Rd 0. Even if he starts in a good scoring role there is no guarantee he won't get swapped around. Last couple of years he has played midfield, wing, HB and forward in consecutive weeks. Of course Cox may change that but he has been a Mr Fixit in the past and that is a risk.
Most definitely a watch on both of them.

Just need to work through possible alternatives if they don't both look right.

I feel like I should know this but where do I find stats on subs from last year and also TOG?

I remember feeling McAuliffe had extremely low TOG even when he wasn’t sub. Assume it was fitness related but at seasons end I was thinking he might be recant this year.

Simple answer is no
Unless he has a monster year, and I can't see that happening, I'm guessing he'll create a bidding war between the two SA clubs as I think he is in last year of a contract and will be a free agent. I hope they play Bryan full time to develop him as I for one am sick of Bomber fans gushing over Draper as I see his output revolving around a 6o second 'highlight package' every second week! Sometimes you just have to accept that you may have 'pulled the wrong chain' and move on...

Yeah it's a shame about him, he has/had the potential, the height, the mullet, the attitude, the talent, (at times) just not the consistency I guess, and consistency is what you need.

I feel like this is slightly incorrect.. the flex is a vehicle to have +1 from a specific position that you would otherwise not be able to fit into the standard 30 man squad of previous years.
The dropping of your lowest score is completely independent of the flex spot - you have 31 scores on field and lost your worst. Putting a premium there is only a benefit if the player that replaces that premium in their position is someone you want in your team. So if it's a premium that allows you to get the best "next best" player that you couldn't squeeze that's fine, but if the player you really want is a forward then putting a mid premium in the flex spot might not actually help.
In reality the ideal flex player is going to come from two positions. MID or RUCK. Whilst you're not actively choosing who you remove due to variance it will likely end up being someone who routinely fills that D6 or F6 position due to the likelihood of a F6/D6 type averaging over 115 over a season is pretty unlikely.

My first thought was that it gives us a 9th MID to fit in, and that might be the case early to get a better rookie onto the field. But I think come the end of the season, RUCK stands out as a great option in SC specifically. The idea of being able to cram in all of Xerri/Gawn/English style players to provide both elite coverage and increased scoring power. It's probably where I'm looking for my team to end up in an ideal world unless someone can come forward with a compelling reason to slot something else in.

Positions aren't linear and FWDs had Flanders/Heeney etc in there last year who have been removed. But there's over 15 PPG variance between currently listed F6 vs R3 based on average. It's similar putting up the FWDs against the MIDs.

Had a first cut team and having thoughts on the flex position based on best 22 scoring players of 23 fielded players this year eg. is it best to position a premium player in this position and field additional rookie on field each week that plays late in rounds and emergency early playing rookie to take best score like an extra player loophole switch with a non playing player on the bench each round.. any thoughts on extra loophole ☹️ 1737717165746.png

My first go of many for this season.
$213.9K in the bank.
Was determined to go G&R this season
Like others a very weird looking forward line.
Was going for a Xerri + Marshall ruck line with Flyn as my flex. With Boyd coming into the equation have come up with this ruck line.
Pretty standard Def and Mid.
Covers the early byes.
Any thoughts?

Round 0 is a huge one, needs to outscore those around him by ~60 points over the first month to make up for it.
He did do this last season. But that was last seaso.
New coach is a factor, Sydney never did what is obvious under Horse,
THIS! You just don't know where he is going to play.

Other than SC I do enjoy watching him play though.

He is fun to watch. He started last year at $483 and finished at $524 as a fwd. Not as much value as a mid? Will still score well but $629

They are some pretty decent scores
Just be cautious about placing an over emphasis on centre bounce attendances as it is reliant on a lot of inferences and has led to overuse and misunderstanding due to a lack of more advanced stats and a false equivalence that there is always a positive correlation for SC scores. No magic points are received from a centre bounce attendance and relies on the inference that the setup never changes in between goals or quarters, that players do not push forward or vice versa and it leads to direct scoring chains etc. Is it beneficial for inside players that predominantly handball or for those that are predominantly outside?

DFS should have what you’re looking for, shows TOG% and if players were sub/subbed.

Found a very interesting piece of info last night which I thought I could turn into a fun guess who question.

After a new role in 2024 this player recorded the 12th highest PPM score being 1.12 which was higher than players such as Merrett, Sheezel and Daicos.

However their TOG was way below their career average sitting at 74%, they recorded 83% and 84% in the last 2 years respectively in a more established role.

They're currently under 550k and only 3% owned in SuperCoach this year.

Who is this potential breakout in 2025? (please no cheating)
Matty Roberts?

Yeah I think end state you’re right! I’m approaching things by looking at the flex around a few different phases. Early its the positional flexibility to get the best cash gen rookie or player I couldn’t otherwise have fit in my team. Mid part of the season will probably be bye management and what it does to support that as we get close to full premium. Late it’ll be how you use it across the 23rd/24th premium and making sure you maximise points vs fixtures, injuries etc.
Strong believer that there is no one way to use the flex over the season but instead a few different ways that’ll reflect each team and need for those rounds.

Someone else got the answer previously in Hayden Young, I like the thinking with Roberts though!

I have Roberts's adjusted average at 87.8 from the 80.7 which he's priced at. His PPM didn't change dramatically from 0.88 between sub/subbed games and TOG was adjusted to 80% from 73%.

To me definite value with another pre season in the role which is where he's been training as far as I know.

Reckon Doedee would take Lesters spot, maybe McCarthy takes Ah-Chee's? Maybe Coleman for Answerth or he pushes Zorko to HFF?

Who knows? Nice problem to have and it's one of the reasons why Ashcroft isn't in my side, but there's a way to go yet and injuries could make those decisions for them
Hey all, good luck for 2025.
Just want to say that I’ve enjoyed the Flex talk, its helping me work through the plans, first 5 drafts are in the fire! 🤣
Still haven’t put a team togethe yet, but I doubt I’ll go with the ruck idea, as my first thought was to use a ruck and not need to carry Jackson in my team again as the loop. Not sure I have the stomach for him to be the flex player either!
Agree with you OnTopBar not sure L Ashcroft gets full games to start may sneak in as the sub. Brissie got a few to come back in to their premiership winning team. He had shoulder issues as well didn’t he?
Anyway I’m slowly catching up on all the chat but just wanted say as above 👍
