Rioli tells AFL he’ll go to All Stars game, Ugle-Hagan opens up on personal struggles
Story by Jake Niall, Scott Spits • 11hrs

Western Bulldogs star Jamarra Ugle-Hagan will also be at the All Stars game and declared on Thursday he hoped to return to Dogs training next week after an extended period away from the club to deal with personal issues.

Ugle-Hagan was keen to be in the company of his Indigenous peers, in what is a small step back towards returning to the Bulldogs, although there is no timeline for when he will be ready to play.

“Right now I’m just going to take it day by day, obviously enjoy this trip .... just have fun. See what happens. And hopefully I’m back training on Monday,” Ugle-Hagan told Seven News before flying out.

The former No.1 draft pick, who won’t play the club’s opening game, conceded he’d been trying to manage “psychology stuff”.

“I’ve definitely had my ups and downs with family loss. I’ve struggled with that .... [and] the balance of training,” he said.

“I stayed home, trained on my own, tried to keep busy with just my own training. And get on top of that psychology stuff which is ... it’s a bit difficult.

“Right now I’m just enjoying my footy and just training hard.”

SYDNEY midfielder Caiden Cleary will miss the first two matches of the season after being caught in possession of illicit drugs.

Cleary, 19, was investigated by NSW Police after an incident in December last year and received a criminal infringement notice for possession of an illicit substance.

He was fined $400 and no conviction was recorded.

Under AFL rules, Cleary was found guilty of conduct unbecoming and will be suspended for two games – Sydney's Opening Round clash with Hawthorn at the SCG and the following week's Grand Final rematch against Brisbane, also at the SCG.

He has also registered an adverse finding, or 'strike' under the AFL's Illicit Drugs Policy and is subject to a $5000 suspended fine.

Key defender Sam Taylor had to be assisted from the ground during the third term of the six-section match following a heavy collision that also involved Jesse Hogan and Aaron Cadman.

Taylor attempted to spoil a marking contest but ended up hitting the ground hard with his head also colliding with the turf. The 25-year-old remained on the ground for a few seconds before getting to his feet.

He took no further part in the game with the Giants confirming that he will likely fall under concussion protocols but that diagnosis would only happen after a complete assessment with a doctor.

Tom Green is another player who had to come off early as he deals with a corked calf. He came from the ground early in the match with the Giants managing the star midfielder ahead of the season. Green suggested earlier in the week on the club’s podcast that it’s an issue he and the club have been conservative with this year, and it shouldn’t be a long-term problem.

Only positive for English is, at least until they sign Crossley, they don't have another ruck and with Naughton and Darcy they're still pretty loaded for KPF. They also can always throw Lobb or Jones forward if desperate.

Weightman injury definitely opens a door for the Dolan/Scott/Jones trio of relevantly priced options.

Dolan was pretty good, imo, for the Dogs against Bombers.

In 2022 English was R/F. While I don't expect him to regain that, I reckon he spends more time Fwd this season than the last couple of seasons. Particularly if JUH is out for a period.
Hey @Rowsus out of curiosity do you know which player has the most volatility in their scoring over the last couple of years? (such as highest clearing with lowest floor?)
