Hi mate how's it going!
Am I crazy to consider trading in NDS over Fyfe?
Don't think price is really an issue because they're only $12k apart.
NDS for a good run home but Fyfe has a higher ceiling (but also the occasional rest and suspension).
The fact that I already have Pav, Sandi and Barlow makes the Fyfe trade look less appealing too...

Hey Rowsus, would love your thoughts on this trade plan.

Currently have 8 trades and $180k in the bank. Considering doing the following:

OUT - Lewis Taylor, Amborse

IN - Wingard, Stefan Martin

I'm keen as this gives me a bargain Wingard, plus with Martin I not only get ruck cover (finally making Thurlow useful) but also can loophole him and Petrie for the foreseeable future (using Lloyd/Thurlow as the donut). What worries me is it'll drop me to only 6 trades.

With these two trades my team would look like this:

BACKS
Simpson, Swallow, Malceski, Hanley, Hurn, Taylor (Gardiner, Clurey)

MIDS
Ablett, Pendles, Libba, Selwood, Ward, Beams, Fyfe, Goddard

RUCKS
Sandi, Minson (Thurlow, King)

FORWARDS
Danger, Martin, Pav, Franklin, Petrie, Wingard (Martin, Lloyd)

Thanks a bunch!
Hey Krieks,
I like the plan, and your team looks pretty good to me. Well done! :)

Hi Rowsus

Quick one this time (I promise!). You advised me to trade Higgins to McGovern this week for a cash grab. Do you think it's too risky to get Kersten on debut instead? This would allow me to upgrade Ambrose to a top mid like Rocky or JPK next week. Kersten would sit on the bench but I risk him being dropped which would leave Shenton to cover both forward and mid benches.

Otherwise I will have to go for a value mid upgrade like Fyfe, Barlow, SJ or NDS.

Edit - if I risked Kersten and still went for a value mid upgrade I would have some cash as a buffer just in case which could be handy later in the season with limited trades left. Just a thought.

Hi Rowsus,

Hoping for your wisdom once again. I have 10 trades and $112,500.

Have 3 options for this week that have me divided.

1. Fasolo & Higgins to Wingard & S Martin/McGovern - will leave me $219,000 to $248,000
2. Fasolo & Tyson to Fyfe & S Martin/McGovern - cash $95,000 to $122,000
3. Fasolo & McDonald to Fyfe (Bartel to backline) & McGovern - cash $12,500

Would already have SJ if not late withdrawal (Bartel late in for me) Want Fyfe over SJ. Wingard has scored better last month so could be more consisten than Higgins. Who is the better option between McGovern and S Martin.

After this week looking to finish off with Fyfe, SJ?? and Gray (fwd).

Any thoughts including totally different ideas welcome and appreciated.

cheers
Hi Saint,
I think you need to make your upgrades as "fiscally responsiblly" as possible, as you still have a few to make. Choices like Wingard fit that description very well! In your situation I would prefer McG to Martin, as you don't have a link to use Martin in your Ruck. I prefer option 1, and Fyfe later on to fill the hole when Bartel moves back.
Good luck :)

Just out of interest, how much do you consider a trade to be worth?
I guess there will be a huge difference if you go through and actually assess how many points each one is worth. You'd probably want most of your up/downs to be worth more than 100, but saving a premium doughnut would be worth it imo, so long as you are clever about it (I should have not traded Dangerfield back in so quickly and got Harvey instead - damn his 154 in r9!) ..
I wrote a reply early in the season, that showed the maths to equate trades to 200-240 points, with the rider that it really depends on what stage of the season the trade was performed, and the 200-240 was an average. Obviously a trade used in round 20 is unlikely to yield that much, but conversely, a trade made in round 6 should make more.
I've loooked for that reply, but can't find it. :( I'm pretty sure it was this thread it was in, but it might have been in one of the Trade threads too.
Circumstances need to dictate each decision in this case.
Player "A" sitting around 15,000th in the Rankings, and running a little short of trades, might be better served just copping the donut.
Player "B" sitting in the top 100 in the Rankings, and wanting to give himself/herself every chance of winning the big one may not have that luxury of copping a Premium donut, as it puts them another 110 behind in the chase.
Of course, it is even more complicated than that, and depends on the exact circumstances and structure, and the season goal of the Coach in question. It is conceivable Player "B" might find themselves in a situation, that as much as they hate it, they are better served just copping that donut. Unusual and unlikely circumstances, but it could happen.
Of course, brad wasn't facing a donut, as he had some Rookie coverage in Gardiner.

Hi rowsus,

I have stuck with Ben McEvoy through his time out injured and have had derickx as cover which is served my ok.

I think I a happy to keep derickx as cover (although am a little worried when tippet is back he may be squeezed out)

My dilemma is Goldstein at his price and kangas good run home is very attractive and thinking of trading out McEvoy for Goldstein.

What are you thoughts? Is it worth trade or should I stick with McEvoy and hope he comes good

I have 11 trades left After trading out Langdon for b.smith.

Your advice will be greatly appreciated

Quick look at my side Rowsus and I have Impey and Ambrose who I am looking to offload (happy to keep Cameron for loopholing purposes for now).

I have $123,800 in my kitty and 13 trades before this round.

Trade Saver:

1 trade:

Impey to Wingard.

Cash Generation:

2 trades:

Impey to Martin (no R3 swing though)
Ambrose to McGovern

Premium

2 trades:

Impey to Honeychurch
Ambrose to $557k mid (Stevie J (4), Fyfe (1), Goddard (3), NDS (2))

Use all cash

Impey to Martin
Ambrose to Wingard

In my position, seeing as though I haven't burnt through my trades early what would you do.

Bearing in mind my main cash league I am predicted to lose by 50 and am outside the 8 and need to win this week.
I have no intention for overall rankings.

Hi Rowsus

To trade or not to trade.... That is the Question.

I have a donut in Impey this week... and I am thinking of either bringing in Fyfe or Kennedy.... but thinking that Rockliff next week would be a more intelligent option.

6 Trades left... so down to the bare minimum. With 2 more upgrades, Polec and Shenton/Impey, Should I cop the donut or trade S.Lloyd out for Honeychurch (moving Shenton down) or SMartin (meaning I have ruck forward switch option with Thurlow in R3)
Hi wT2k,
with only 6 trades left, and a thinnish looking bench, I'm not sure you can afford to bring Honeychurch in just yet. You need players you are confident will play a number of games sitting on your bench, and we can't sure he fits that description yet. I'd hold onto Impey. I think he is just being rested, and even though his average is low, his JS should be high enough to give you coverage when you need it. I'd go Lloyd to Martin, and utilise your loophole opportunities. I prefer Fyfe over just about all the Mids right now (excluding Ablett, Pendles etc), but that is just my personal preference. If you like Rocky, then I'd go with him.
Good luck :)

Currently have Luke Dunstan at M8. Its hard to make money at moment with not many good rookie downgrades available. What do you think about trading Dunstan to Miles given that it will only makes me just under 100K and ill still need to upgrade Miles at some stage later in year. Currently 8 trades left and focussing on league win.

Cheers mate
He's an interesting one Miles. I am surprised there hasn't been more talk about him. I guess it's his "high" price that has thrown people off him. I actually agree with you, and think he is a live chance to make money, and produce some possibly useful points. I'd like to take the risk with him myself, but trade-wise I just can't affoerd to, as I only have 6 trades left.
Good luck :)

Hi MMM,
I think both can be good choices, but I do prefer Fyfe. Having said that, you seem to have enough Ross Lyon exposure right now, so NDS might be the better choice for you.
Good luck :)

Hi Bobbie,
yes, I think Kersten is a bit too risky right now. I really hate the risk of Rookies before the bubble, if it can be avoided, and that applies even more so for Rookies with recent injury concerns.

As to the "otherwise I will have to go to a value Mid upgrade", Fyfe is actually my first choice anyway, so I don't think he is a compromise just to find value.

Having the extra cash that Kersten gives you is tempting, but I still think the longer term risk is too high.

Good luck :)

Hi Carlton,
WOW! that's some patience you've shown there!
I definitely think it's worth going McEvoy to Goldstein. Derickx should be ok, I think, even with Tippett back.
Good luck :)

Hi Shaa,
as you face a "must win", or "near must win", I think you need to think bigger.
The problem with your Premium option is that you end up with both your M/F DPP's down on your Fwd line.
How about bringing in Boomer instead? He is a good chance to go big against Melbourne.
Good luck :)

Hey Rowsus, quick quick quick one......one rookie out of McGovern or Miles? Thanks, you are a legend!
McGovern. Miles might make fractionally more money, and score a little higher, but he will be largely anchored to your bench, where as McG's scores are more likely to be used, and you can possibly loophole him and Petrie.

Thanks Rowsus and Oz, i got myself confused thinking Kersten was a DEF but i actually don't mind Oz's suggestion (although i can't afford Bartel so i'd get Birchall). decisions decisions!
I was not suggestion bringing in Kersten.. lol

Was simply curious to see if you could bring Kersten in for Bews which that was the way it could have been done if you can afford it but quite costly to lose a possible DEF/MID and FWD/MID links in the process and use a trade. Getting in Bartel is nice but speculation on how Kersten goes is simply that. Speculative move. None of us really know how he'll go but I'm sure the Geelong thinking has been they've wanted to give him the chance to be the 2nd key forward but he has been out for 10 weeks or so. With Vardy out for season, Geelong key forward stocks are short and Kersten kicked goals last week in VFL so has not taken them long to want to put him in team. That suggest as long as he contributes his job security might be good for a rookie going forward. How he scores in SC is another thing. Don't really know. Have not looked at his price myself either.
I got Bews myself and very frustrating but I've kept him for now in hope I can get a bit more cash out of him in weeks to come with a bit of luck. If he does not look like breaking into Cats team very soon I'll probably cut my losses with him but trades are getting to lower number so got to be sure you are trading out a guy when he has nothing left to add to team.

Thanks Rowsus. Will go for the less risky option in McGovern. Fyfe for Taylor next week sounds good to me!

Hi Rowsus, my shy plans

Round 14
5 trades left
$188,700
Out Cox In Nicnat
Out M johnson In Mackie (I have Cutler and is named this round)

Round 15
3 trades left
$249,700
Ambrose out, swing Harvey back to forwards, in perm mid probably SJ

Round 16
2 trades left
$30,000 approx
Not sure what to do here, still have one perm spot to fill, have L Taylor, Shenton and McGovern (by then) worth money to trade. Then pray no injuries.

My other option is keep cox as i have back up in Martin for a while.
Other options include saving trades for injuries and doing less upgrades?

My Dunn trade out 3 weeks ago is haunting me, especially since Johnson and Taylor have gone down. Had Dunn from the start of the year, I should have had faith. His 3 scores before I traded him were 56, 75, 78, his 3 scores after I traded him were 116, 145, 149!!!!

Thanks in advance Row.

Hi Juzzo,
seeing as you only have 5 trades left, and you have Martin for cover, Cox to NicNat appears to be way too much of a luxury trade now. I would save yourself future pain and keep that trade up your sleeve.
Mackie seems like a bit of strange choice, too. He's a Mid 80's player that started the season well, and before his last game, his previous 5 only averaged 79. I'd much prefer to see you go with a Birchall/Hibberd/Hurn type with a better history of scoring consistently higher than Mackie.
Good luck :)
