Hi Rowsus,

Really need your help and most likely with only 5 trades left, for the last time this season. Have $325,000 to spend.

This week was looking at Tyson to JPK or waiting one more week to see if his price drops again - don't see it moving down to much more. I also need to upgrade McGovern to say Gray which will require another downgrade.

My problem at the minute is Thompson/Wingard and their yo-yo scoring. Could solve Thompson by sideways to Mitchell? Only that trades are like gold at the pointy end.

Always enjoy seeing how you see something that a lot of us coaches miss.

Thanks for all the previous advice this year - as last year, this is the forum on Supercoach Scores I most enjoy and head to first. 90% of the time I get my answers from your advice to all our other coaches.

cheers

Side note: sitting top four in 4 leagues and 6th so don't need to do anything rash to make league finals.

Hey Slammer,
as disappointing as your D5-7 might be, most teams struggle in that area. I think both your cover, and your scores would be better served by getting Jack or Wines. Hopefully the ability to loophole, and look at some scores will outweigh the difference between S Mitchell's score and Jaensch/Litherlands score. You've made a really flexible team (nice work!), and with all the links you have created, having that little bit of extra depth should let you see 2, maybe 3 scores each week before locking anything in. I'd take a disappointing D6, with good loopholing ability in other areas, over boosting my D6 by 15-20 pts/week. With lots of good loopholing, I am sure you can make up more than 15-20 points.
Good work, and good luck :)
Thanks Rowsus. I see your point.
Only concern is my cover in Litherland and Shenton look vulnerable this week especially as Gibson looks like he is coming back.
Do I stick to your plan if in particular Litherland or Shenton are out?

cheers

Hi Rowsus

This answer for Slammer almost answers my question. Almost.

I have 4 trades left and lots of money by accident (didn't plan to have so much). Mitchell being so cheap is making me think more than I should be. I could use him in 2 areas.

1. I have been loopholing Suckling and H Taylor for D6 although H Taylor has come good the last 2 weeks. Upgrading Suckling to Mitchell would give me 6 genuine premiums in my back line with H Taylor as D7.

2. My other thought is that Shenton is not great cover for my mids. I could upgrade Shenton to Mitchell giving me very good mid cover and a link to my backline.

Option 1 would still require a second trade to cover my mids in which I am thinking of Josh Caddy.

Option 2 would only require 1 trade to give me Mitchell and cover my mids.

Option 3 would be to put Josh Caddy at M9 giving me mid cover and a link to my forwards and forget about Mitchell.

Is Mitchell too good to be sitting on the bench or should I thank my lucky stars that I can afford to sit him on the bench? Excluding long term injuries I will still be able to use my other 3 trades for upgrades before the end of the year.

Thanks
Hi freowho,
I like the option of Shenton to Mitchell, and the main reason I like it is, that you already have J Hunt. Acres provides some good loopholing opportunities, even though he has the 2nd game twice in the remaining games. It's much better to be loopholing Mitchell than Caddy, and if a Defender goes missing you can start loopholing down there instead. Hopefully one or both of Hale or Cameron are back soon, which will let you hang onto those trades a bit longer. While it might appear Mitchell is too good to be sitting on the bench in the Mids, especially if you are struggling at D6, the opportunity to view a score in your Mids is good, and some weeks you might even be able to still move Mitchell down to boost your Defs.
good luck :)

Happy to help, Slammer.
I'd say if Litherland is out, then you consider Litherland ---> Mitchell. If Shenton is out, you consider Shenton ---> Mitchell, and if both are out, but you are not facing a donut, you either pause to see how things look in Round 19, or go Litherland ---> Mitchell.
Good luck :)

Hi Rowsus, this is my team

Backs: Simpson, Bartel, Swallow, Enright, Hanley, Litherland (Laidler, Cutler)
mids: Fyfe, pendles, beams, selwood, Libba, SJohnson, Murphy, Rockcliff (Acres, Shenton)
rucks: sandi, Minson (Thurlow King)
forwards: dangerfield, parker, zorko, Dmartin, Franklin, SMartin (Cameron, HoneyChurch)

I have 5 trades left and 285k.

My question is who to trade Litherland to as I haven't got McVeigh. Should I spend the extra cash to go to McVeigh or take a punt on Litherland to SMitchell as I was thinking originally. I think McVeigh will score more and won't be rested which Mitchell may be. But it does restrict my future 4 trades in the finals unless I sell down Shenton to get some cash.

Thoughts?
Hi lmjcb,
I think you need to go to Mitchell. I agree with what you said about the advantages of McVeigh, but you need the cash. Shenton is about to start bleeding cash, so you should move him on too, especially as you have Honeychurch already to fill that role. If you wanted a POD, you could go to McGlynn and loophole him through F7. You come up just short of Dahlhaus, unfortunately, but you could also consider Gunston.
Good luck :)

Hi Rowsus. Back for some more advice. I have 4 precious trades left and $126,900 in the kitty.

Swan looks to be out for 4 weeks apparently so I obviously need to trade him. There are question marks over Sandi too. If I trade Sandi to Minson, I will have $553,300 for a Swan replacement. If I go for Stefan Martin instead I can add $50K to that amount, but I take the risk on Martin's scoring (JS?) being affected by Leuy's return (which seems like it could be in the very near future). I am happy to switch Swan into the forward line and bring one of my DPP forwards to the mids if that seems like the best solution. Also happy to hold Sandi if it's only going to be a week but that obviously depends on any other donuts this week.

Some options for Swan are Jack ($511,400), SJ ($533,700), Greenwood ($536,200). If I trade in Martin I can afford the likes of JPK, Sidey, Barlow, Priddis etc.

Your advice would be very much appreciated!

Hey Rowsus, looking to take a huge punt on going Sandi>NicNat with 3 trades left. My bet with my mate is over and long gone, I'm ranked at 16k and this could fuel a league win. Bar injury, how do you see Nicnat scoring from here?

Cheers

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!! A mate referred me here coz I have the TOUGHEST 2 questions of my sc year... I have 2 trades left just going for league win currently 7th safe in the 8 guaranteed with ablett still in my side n mcgovern on field 29k in the bank...my questions are 1. Which combo do I go for out of heppell/motlop, gray/jack, mitchell/boomer, ward/426k fwd (already have breust) or any other fwd mid combo for 1.03 mil... question 2. Do I do the trades now considering a price drop n increase here n there can cost me those combos n leave me with little to no bench cover for rest of the season or take the risk n wait? If I get the boomer mitchell combo takin mitchell this week means I can hold off on boomer for abother 2-3 weeks

The more I think about it the more sense it makes because with Shenton I am using my forward line to cover the mids and rucks. With Mitchell I am covering my mids with my backline which is strong and taking pressure off my forward line which isn't as strong. Shenton out this week makes the decision easier.

Hi Adrenaline,
I think you need to start building some cover. Trades can only cover 2 problems in any given week, so you need to get some good coverage happening on your benches, then hang onto a few trades for emergencies.
In a quick look, the Rockie/Mitchell option looks ok, but there is no way on Earth you will reach Gray in one trade in the short term, if you go down that road. Mitchell nearly becomes a must, on the potential value he represents. The question then becomes, do you commit to 4 trades to get Rockie, Mitchell and Gray, or do you pick someone else to replace Rockie/Gray, and use 3 trades?
The answer to that lies in what your alternatives are.
Rockie is currently $640,100 B/E 117, and he could potentially rise in price, but let's say he holds his price.
Gray is currently $513,300 B/E 117, he's a chance to reach that B/E against Melbourne this week, but may drop to around $505k.
Minchington is currently $217,100 B/E 24, if he plays, he probably raises to around $230k
So, Rockie/SMitchell this week gives you $450-$465 to upgrade after you trade Minch next week, which really leaves you in Zorko/Chapman territory. Possibly a bit vanilla for F6, in your situation.
If you go Mitchell this week, Gray next week, assuming he's around $505k, it means you have around $585-$598k to spend on your Ablett replacement. It's a much more tantalizing list to choose from. Priddis, Sidebotton, Ward, Sloane, Cotchin, Harvey, Dal Santo, Boak, Barlow, SJ.
I think that's more the path I'd be heading down. Save a trade, save dollars, even though you miss out on Rocky. You have good Captain options without him.
If you do go down that road, it is possible, depending on who you pick, that you are better off taking Gray for Ablett this week, and sliding him down when you trade Minch out next week. For example, if you liked Ward or Sidebottom for a POD, they are both less likely to reah their B/E's this week than Gray.
I think you need to carefully use another 2 trades building bench cover over the 2 or 3 weeks after that, and then hold onto your last few trades.
Good luck :)
Thank you so much Rowsus for your advice and your help throughout the year. For some reason i cant convince myself not to buy rocky because i see him as a must have.

If i do the original trade langdon to mitchell, do you think ablett to dal santo is a good buy? Dal santo is tricky but he has a good draw and can go large or would you place priddis sidebottom and ward in front of dal santo?

Thanks

Hi Rowsus

I need your enlightenment!!

I'm going for league win current in top 8 and have an easy run the next 2 rounds

i have 8 trades left with $296,500 in the bank

My team atm is

def : mcveigh, bartel, simpson, hanely, hibberd, enright, langford, j.tippett

mid : ablett, pendles, selwood, libba, nds, beams, rocky, libba, honeychurch, obrien, acres

ruck : mcevoy, sandi, thurlow, king

forw : boomer, danger , d.martin, rough head, s.martin,parker, mcgovern, c.cameron

I am looking at trading make for this week is:
- obrien to mitchell
- ablett to jpk

leaving me with $119,700 in the war chest.

does this sound like a good idea? what would you do?

next week I'm looking at trading down langford to rookie then upgrading mcgov?

how can i maximise my chances of winning league from here.

Much appreciated
Hi pekka20,
the biggest hurdle you seem to have in front of you now is raising cash. It's great you have so many trades left, but it can be really hard to utilise them properly now, as the cash making opportunities are really drying up! That being the case, you need to be really aware of dollars, and maximising them. That sounds strange for someone with so many trades, but if you are doing downgrades to reap $70k you need to do a few to make a decent upgrade!
He's not a player I am happy to recommend, but if Morabito avoids the green vest this week, he is potentially the best downgrade target at the moment, for someone looking for a cow that can be milked later.
From there, you need to make a list of the players you think you might want in your team to complete it. JPK is obviously one player you want (I'm not sure how you are situated in the Mids, as you have listed 11 players. Do you still have 3 Rookies there?). JPK plays well against Hawthorn, and has a B/E of 141. Given the desperation of your money situation, and the fact you say you have 2 easy matches (against ghostships maybe?), you might risk leaving JPK to next week, just to potentially save $10-12K. With the other players on your wish list, you really need to study B/E's to target them at the right time, so you get full use of your dollars.
If you are playing a ghostship this week, and Morabito isn't green vested, you might consider: Ablett to Morabito, and if O'Brien isn't picked, ZOB to Mitchell. This will cash you up, and give JPK a chance to drop a little further in price.
Good luck :)

I'm guessing u don't have any worse other D/m premiums in defense, but just checking as then u could obviously swap them with mitchell.

Hi Saint,
great to hear your season is going so well! :)
Given the likelihood that Tyson will raise a bit, and JPK will drop a bit, I'd hold off one more week on that trade.
Your observation on Wingard/SDT is spot on. That would be a luxury trade that you just can't afford right now, but it also why you are saving every dollar you can. That way, when you decide it's safe to move on one of them, you have as much cash as possible to upgrade them. The potential $20k saved by waiting on JPK (Tyson +10, JPK -10) could be huge on your final trade.
So possibly this week you go Tyson to Gray? Gray's B/E is 24 lower than JPK's, and he has the "easy" Melbourne game.
Next week swap Gray and Shenton, downgrade McGovern, and upgrade Shenton to JPK.
It doesn't help your Def, but I think you really need to drag 2 trades to the finals.
Good luck :)

Hi Bobbie,
I think Martin might be a trap! If you can afford to ride the donut, i'd just do it.
If you trade Sandi out, go Minson and SJ or Jack. I feel confident those combinations will safely outscore Martin and whoever.
I don't think any of the M/F's or F's your missing will outscore Jack/SJ.
Good luck :)
