if the blues were to get mitchell at that price you would think a few of waite, warnock, mclean, robbo and garlett would have to go to make room specially if casboult is looking for more money as well ?

Warnock and McLean I would think almost gone next year so we will find room. McLean I am expecting to retire. Also remember Judd is playing on for basically as low as you can expect for someone of his ilk. If I had to give up Robbo to fit in Mitchell well so be it. He's not exactly making the decision difficult. I doubt it would come to that. I actually expect Carrazzo to retire so there should be plenty of room. Also remember Duigan and Scotland retired this year also. I expect Kane Lucas to go also. Whatever way we do it, fitting in Mitchell should be a no brainer. However this rumour I do not even know if it is true. I can only hope....

as much as i hate the blues it would be good if it happened the kid deserves a real go instead of running around in the magoos.
they wouldnt have to make room if they just paid betts instead of paying overs for daisy :p

I was wondering what coaches thoughts are on the late season carnage we are seeing at the moment?
My main concern is not just the injuries but the players being rested and the AFL saying there will only be 1 bye for each team next year. I think next year could be worse.
Geelong started resting players throughout 2011 and they were much healthier going into the grand final than Collingwood. Ross Lyon rested half his team in the last round last year and it had a huge impact on them beating Geelong at Kardinia Park in the first week of finals.

Other teams are now catching on with key players having a rest against the bottom teams.

How many trades do you think we need to keep up our sleeve for the last 4 rounds?

Do you think virtual sports could do something to allow for this? i.e 1 additional trade for each week of the finals only to be made available during the finals. Using a different system to decide league finals from overall rankings, i.e league finals might be decided by your best 20 but the overall prize continues on as normal.

I've always felt that overall and league glory require 2 different strategies but we are only allowed to coach 1 team. It is a shame to see some of you guys in the top 100 being knocked off in league finals by a team outside the top 20,000 because some of your premiums have been rested.

What was crowd size on Collingwood Twilight Sunday match at G ?
Just curious how the Sunday late crowds go.

I'm real hoping AFL trial two Friday night games and stop buggering around with timeslots outside normal weekend friendly timeslots.
Phil, I'm sure Perth has occassionally had games start around or before midday.
I remember a Saturday game on tv live at 2-30 pm which would have been 12-30 there plus the 1-10 pm Sunday times in Melbourne might have been 12-40 in Adelaide or 11-10 am if from Perth.

8 pm Friday night game in Perth would be awesome to add as semi-regular imho. That would be 10 pm in Melbourne after the first Friday night game could finish up.

Some people must be listening to me...

I just read what I posted below at afl.com.au
Calls grow louder for Friday night double
CALLS are growing for two Friday night games to be added to the AFL fixture as soon as next season.

Friday night games are the jewel in the AFL's regular season crown, as they bring enormous exposure, television ratings and interest to the competition and to the clubs that are participating.

The AFL readily acknowledges it typically only schedules the competition's most popular and highest rating teams to the timeslot.

Melbourne-based heavyweights Hawthorn, Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton and Richmond enjoy plenty of Friday night games, along with premiership contenders Geelong, the Sydney Swans, Port Adelaide and Fremantle.

The NRL has experimented with two Friday night games, usually one in Sydney and one in Brisbane, with the first match broadcast live into the host city and the second shown on delay.

Representatives from both Collingwood and Greater Western Sydney believe it's a model that could succeed in the AFL.

"Why would you play two on a Saturday night and not two on a Friday night?" Giants chief executive Dave Matthews said on Friday.

"A lot of the discussion is about the Friday night blockbusters in Melbourne, but one I've learned from living in Sydney for over four years is people here don't pay any attention to what's happening in Melbourne.

"So a second Friday night game would be really important to us if we could get one at some stage.

"We have a magnificent boutique stadium (Spotless Stadium), great lighting and everything else (required)."

Magpies CEO Gary Pert, whose club has regularly capitalised on its fan base by gaining access to some of the AFL's prime timeslots, also feels there is room for a second Friday night game.

"I think there's space for it because you've got different broadcasters," Pert said.

"You've got multiple radio stations covering it as well.

"The TV rights is important money and the audience figures are really important, but this game survives on the big crowds, the energy, the passion – you've got to get people into the stadiums.

"That's what sets us apart."

GWS has experienced plenty of teething problems as it tries to establish itself in a region where AFL is not a traditional sport.

This year the AFL tinkered with its traditional fixture and acknowledges the majority of results have not been positive.

Matthews feels improving the schedule can go a long way towards boosting those numbers.

"In terms of the time slots, 7.40pm (on a Saturday night) is a ridiculous time for families," he said.

"The difference between 7.10 and 7.40 is enormous, particularly in Sydney, where our game runs for longer than other sports.

"You're trying to introduce a new audience and you're starting it later and it runs longer (than other sports), so the time slot is definitely one that needs looking at."

The Pies also haven't been spared the difficulties of this year's experimental draw, which the AFL has admitted was designed to boost television ratings.

Pert believes that has been a fundamental mistake.

"The fixture was taken away from the best interests of the supporters and the clubs themselves," Pert said.

"When we got the draft fixture at the start of the year, we said 'this is a broadcast fixture'.

"Collingwood-Carlton, when you can expect 85-90,000 people, they put it late on a Sunday night (it was played at 7.10pm and drew just 40,936 fans).

"We called the broadcasters and they were open and honest about it.

"They said 'we'd been pushing the AFL to put Collingwood games at times when Collingwood supporters don't want to go to the games with their families so they'll stay home and watch it'.

"Well that costs us a lot of money. That costs families the enjoyment and connection of going to the game.

"Now in hindsight, the AFL is saying they'll change those fixturing decisions and make it a lot more about the supporters."

In a tipping comp. Prizes are 1st $1200, 2nd $550, 3rd $350.
Current leader on 140, 2nd and 3rd on 139, I'm currently 4th on 138.

Thinking I may as well come 10th rather than 4th so would value some opinions on some outsiders to sneak me into 3rd spot. Tigers any chance over Sydney ? Or any other games where we can smell an upset !

Good luck Creeker, the trick might be not trying for too many upsets because you might get a few right & miss on the others. Tigers is probably a good one because the safe pick is definitely Swans, there's quite a few games that won't be close (Hawks, Crows, Cats, North)

It should be a rule that any club that debuts a player in the final round gets fined for wrecking that players cashcow value for the following season. The fine should be the amount the player increases in price for the start of next season.

Can't get to sleep so decided to work out how many drawn games I have been to in my lifetime.

I have been to 8. Remarkably 4 of them have been Ess v Car games.

I assume there would be some people on here who have been to more?

No way I think I seen that many.
I did not go today. I thought, what is the point. If Kruezer and Murphy were likely to play might have had some real reason but seeing guys like Kane Lucas play would have tortured me so I stayed away and saw a little bit on tv during the day. I could not envisage us winning with team we had on park last two weeks.

Mate, I'm still getting over the draw at VFL Park back in 1984 ish...lol.. the bloody umpires stole it. Warren Ralph had shot after the siren and I was right behind the goals and certainly a goal. Went over my head and through the big sticks. The bloody goal umpire gave it a point. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr We was robbbed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I not sure how many I seen live Phil. Maybe 3 or 4 in my life.
The only other Carlton one I remember v your mob was 1993 and I got to game only in last quarter as was busy earlier in day. Basically only saw last 5 minutes.

The very first game I remember watching was on tv, believe it or not, it was a draw... the 1977 Grand Final!!!
I was hooked on footy after that. Followed it every season since 1978.. So many seasons but never went to a game live until about 1981 or 82 I think.
I miss going to the footy with 6 games all on at same time... Man that was fun.

Carlton having a draw rather than winning sends Richmond to Adelaide for final ?
Just checked final ladder. Would make no difference. Someone told me earlier today it did...lol

Bloody Bulldogs lost. Was hoping they won today for Gia and would have meant they ahead of us on ladder and we move up one draft pick earlier.. oh well...lol
