Not everyone will care for this post, but I reckon it will be an interesting night at Crown Palladium tonight. Crichton Medal night, I.e. EFC B & F.

Last year Fletcher announced he would be playing on, reckon we will hear the same again tonight. Also a chance to hear if Winderlich remains retired or unretires himself.

Also Bomber Thompson makes a speech. Gee I wonder if anyone will ask about the GC rumours tonight... hmmmm ;)

Finally they may even mention something about whether they will appeal a cetain court decision or not.

Wish I was going, lucky the EFC is broadcasting it live on the website tonight :)
Heard that about Bomber from a bloke at work this morning. Without Hird, Bomber, Goodwin coaching next year, who's next in line?

North building quite the list if they can get Higgins/Waite and they stay fit/not suspended.

Well there is Nathan Bassett, Matt Egan and Hayden Skipworth on the coaching panel left, as well as Neil Craig in his position. Also rumours of Mark Harvey rejoining as an assistant.

So many rumours at the moment its hard to know what to believe. I'm hoping we get some answers or direction tonight. In my ideal world I would like to have both Bomber and Hirdy at the Club next year.

Geez, McKenna finally found out he no longer coach. Talk of Thompson taking over would be tricky considering Gary Ablett and him barely talked when they were last together at same club. Be interesting to see what happens. Essendon are really on the nose and if Thompson was to leave and take on Gold Coast job it gets more troubling for them if any players suspended and Hird was left as coach. Thompson has a better relationship with media in general and Essendon were lucky to have him as coach when their club is kind of in bad books at moment. I'm not sure what it will be like if Hird coach next year and the players still in limbo with ASADA case.

Buckley hints at Magpies' Dangerfield bid

COLLINGWOOD coach Nathan Buckley hopes wantaway star Dayne Beams can be convinced to stay, but has strongly hinted the Magpies have contacted Adelaide midfielder Patrick Dangerfield as a potential replacement.

Beams has told the Pies he wants to be traded to the Brisbane Lions to be closer to his family.

Speaking on SEN radio on Thursday, Buckley said Collingwood understood Beams' position but had not given up on retaining the 24-year-old.

"It's unfortunate. We'd rather have Dayne be wanting to sign on for another five years and be at Collingwood for the rest of his career," Buckley said.

"But we understand the pull of family – and obviously there's a couple of other factors that have made it a bit easier to make that decision.

"But, as I've said earlier, he's a contracted player. We're still in dialogue and our preference is still that he stays with the football club and that we find a way to meet his family concerns, but that will take some time."

It has been reported that the Pies and Lions are yet to discuss the trade, although the Magpies have indicated that the Lions' pick No.4 won't be enough to get the deal done.

Collingwood is keen to secure a ready-made replacement for Beams, an All Australian and Copeland Trophy winner.

Crows star Dangerfield fits that mould and speculation about his future has been rife since Adelaide sacked coach Brenton Sanderson.

Buckley said he hadn't spoken to Dangerfield or his management but, when asked if the Pies had, he replied: "I dare say, I dare say".

"What I will say… is that we look at every opportunity to improve our list," Buckley said.

Melbourne has expressed an interest in Dangerfield, who is contracted at Adelaide for next season, and is prepared to offer pick two and three in the NAB AFL Draft.

The Crows insisted on Monday that Dangerfield was not on the trade table.

Clearly Lions would not give up Rockliff, Zorko or Hanley so some dreaming if Pies think they would get any of them as straight swap. However I do understand them wanting that. However, than ain't going to happen. Leunberger, Redden or Rich more gettable I would sense.
Something like pick 4 plus Rich would seem where Pies would agree. Whether Lions and Rich would do that is another.
It might simply be pick 4 or get nothing and Beams sits out of AFL for a year.

I would think there is no way on Earth Collingwood would be satisfied with a straight swap of Zorko or Hanley for Beams. It wouldn't get the deal done at all.

Don't want it to happen (want Danger to come to the cats via FA next year :p), but Beams to the lions, Dangerfield to the pies and picks 4 and 8 to the crows seems pretty reasonable.

That's what i've been telling people. The Lions hold all the cards on this simply because Beams has already stated he wants to go home to be with his father. I cannot see the Pies forcing Beams to stay, no club would do that to a player. The Pies either get something for Beams this year or get nothing for him next year, seems like a no brainer.

Short of getting Dangerfield to replace Beams Colingwood will not be satisfied but sometimes you do not get what you would want in these circumstances. The problem for them is Beams is determined to go live in Brisbane now. So they will need to do some deal even if not happy. Otherwise Beams may just be willing to sit out the year and they get nothing that way. I think short of Dangerfield himself in some three to four club deal, they will only get pick 4 and some lesser player than a pure gun from Lions. If Dan Rich wanted to change clubs or Redden that might help packaged with pick 4 for one of them. But I cannot see Lions to bend over any more than that.

For what its worth I have been told that Essendon has had a 'chat' with Jeff Garlett. No idea on the outcome or the depth of the chat though. (Although should be noted that Carlton list manager said earlier today that Essendon was not one of the Clubs to speak to him)

The young guys just want to play, could be lots of opportunity at Essendon if players get banned. Any club would be happy to get Ryder but Sydney have a lot of talls. If I was another club and Ryder goes to Sydney I'd be poaching Nankervis or Naismith who both seem well regarded and can't get a game.
