I think your FB post is taking the p1$$ IDIG ;)

I would give up 4x Ryan Schoemakers to get Danger...but I very much doubt the Crows are going to want to get rid of their Capt. :)

Yep I saw that post as well, Lowden + Shoey + Pick 19.
Its a longshot at the moment but I'd be happy to through in a few more picks to get the deal done. haha :)

In all honesty, those facey pages are as reliable as...well, my supercoach advice haha

It's absolutely terrifying to think his name is even in the same sentence as Hawthorn, let alone him rumoured to be having lunch(es) with Clarko.

You need to throw in Jeff Kennett running up Rundle Mall in his jocks as well to get that deal over the line!

"We are disappointed with the outcome and annoyed with the process, the process part in particular. We always felt like Waite would be worth a third-round pick, and you factor that into your whole thinking when you're assessing his visibility to be a free agent."
- Carlton CEO Steven Trigg
Can't believe Steven Trigg is complaining about the process!!

Tim Membrey requests a trade to St Kilda. Ironic that 2 years ago, Sydney gave St Kilda Trent Dennis-Lane for pick 46.
Sydney then use pick 46 to draft Tim Membrey.
Lock him in for my 2015 supercoach team.

Why is that the case?? Hawthorn clearly has a fair bit of cash in the salary cap due to the Franklin departure.

And I think the rumoured chats with Clarko are in relation to the international rules series :)

Gee you gotta love trade period Haha

I hope you are right OZ, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I thought the Dee's were a chance to get the requested priority pick, but no go. I think the AFL tends to err on the side of not being generous, but who knows, we might get reasonable compensation for Frawley to help soften the blow of no compo pick
If Melbourne get Pick 3 for Frawley then it is the AFL masquerading free-agency compo as a PP, no other explanation for it. Franklin, the best full forward in the game got #19 but somehow Frawley is worth #3? Yeah-nah.

I also doubt this myth being spouted about all the free agents running to top clubs. Pretty sure the spread has been quite even.

Frawley clearly not a supercoacher.
Hawks have just gone back to back. History suggests 3 in a row is rare, their best players are well past the half way mark of their careers. They are more likely to slide in the next few years rather than get better.
I'm not trying to bag Hawthorn, just pointing out the realities of the system.
Melbourne might get a premiership before Hawthorn in the coming years!
Sure the premiership window is closing, likely only next year a chance to make it and even then that's going against modern history. Still, Frawley coming actually helps improve that chance of happening. And since he's there, the rebound/rebuild isn't going to end up being St.Kilda-esque.

MELBOURNE has picks 2 and 3 in the national draft after the AFL announced compensation for departing full-back James Frawley.

It is the highest pick handed out in compensation since the advent of free agency.

The length of Frawley’s contract — believed to be four years — and Frawley’s age (26), added up to the maximum compensation available.

That is an extra draft pick immediately following the club’s first round selection. With the Dees holding pick 2 for finishing second-last, they now pocket pick 3 as well, pushing every club except St Kilda another spot back in the pecking order.

Last year Hawthorn received pick 19 as compensation for losing Lance Franklin to Sydney, while past compo picks have included pick 11 for Dale Thomas (Collingwood), pick 13 for Brendon Goddard (St Kilda) and pick 25 for Nick Dal Santo (St Kilda).

Last week Brisbane chief executive Greg Swann said last week Frawley didn’t qualify for such a high selection.

“I know ‘Roosy’ said everyone he speaks to thinks that pick three is a fair pick, but we certainly don’t. We would’ve thought an end of first round would’ve been best for James,” said Swann, who’s Lions have the pick after Melbourne.

“We’re talking pick three, it’s a massive pick in the draft. I would’ve thought that would’ve been reserved for top echelon players.”

Melbourne is expected to use the pick as a bargaining chip in trade talks.

Earlier, Frawley said the lure of challenging for a flag with Hawthorn was the key reason for his switch to the AFL premiers.

The Hawks confirmed the move on Monday morning, signing the free agent from strugglers Melbourne to continue their back-to-back premiership celebrations.

The 26-year-old All Australian said he decided to sign with the Hawks after seeing the success of Brian Lake and other players who made the move to Waverley.

“Every player plays footy to try and win a premiership and be in a successful side and that’s what I see here at Hawthorn and that’s why I made the choice,” Frawley said.

“There were many factors that came into the decision but Lakey has had some good luck coming here from the Bulldogs two years running for two flags. That’s a pretty good strike rate.”

He announced he would leave the AFL strugglers last week, with Hawthorn one of a group of clubs vying for Frawley’s signature.

Hawthorn firmed as a potential landing point for the wantaway man when the club’s website prematurely announced his signing on the weekend.

Hawks list manager Graham Wright said he expected Frawley to slot into the club’s defensive unit.

Having recently turned 26, James is a quality defender in the prime of his career, Wright said.

“James is a fantastic addition to our list, and will complement and enhance our defensive unit extremely well,” he said.

Frawley did spare a thought for the Demons, where he clocked up 139 games since being drafted with pick 12 in 2006.

“I’m sad to leave (Melbourne) but you have to do what’s best for you,” he told the club’s website.

“I found it really hard, especially when it came down to the crunch of actually making the decision.”

Why? cos Hawthorn, who just won a flag by 10 goals, who just picked up potentially the best defender come swing man going around, is now rumoured to be talking to one of the most dangerous mids going around lol that's why its terrifying!

The rest of the comp may as well take next season off if danger ends up at Hawthorn :p

What about Sydney last year???
Frawley is by no means a star, tbh I think we have over paid him. Melbourne getting pick 3 as compensation for him is pretty generous, considering Waite was worth nothing. Now I know there are differences in their ages etc. but they aren't too dissimilar to each other.
And I would think Hawthorn just happens to be very good in the list management area, having not received extra salary etc. I can't see how IF we happened to get Dangerfield that it would be 'wrong' so to speak. And lets not get ahead of ourselves, I find it hard to believe that a) Danger would want to leave & b) Adelaide would trade him. Haha

Nick Malceski officially off to the Gold Coast Suns on a 3 year deal, great coup by the Suns. Now they just need Bomber Thompson!

I never said it would be wrong lol, i was merely pointing out that your boys would be near unbeatable with Frawley and Danger.

I reckon we're yet to see the best out of Frawley but agree, he's probably getting overs and pick 3 is very generous. It's a funny system this, i don't really understand it but saw a post on facey showing compensation picks in past years and it's a bit of a head scratcher. I'll see if i can find it.

They don't look consistent to me.

Buddy
Goddard
Frawley
Thomas (only because he is younger than Dal)
Dal Santo

Would be my order.

Maybe the AFL is compensating for the fact they knocked back Melbourne's request for a priority pick.
I don't begrudge Hawthorn getting Frawley. They are obviously managing their salary cap really well. It is interesting that Hawthorn spend time and money chasing defenders, Lake, Gibson, Frawley, Burgoyne and are happy to let the best forward in the game walk. Sydney's time and money is all loaded in the forward line, Buddy, Tippett, Reid and they are happy to let an All Australian defender in Malceski go.
Have Hawthorn unlocked the moneyball secret to list mangement?
If you look at the highest paid players at each club they are elite mids and key position forwards. Because clubs are always chasing these players they are always going to be paying overs. Yet the common thinking is that defense wins premierships but defenders are never valued the same so a club can usually keep good defenders for less money.
Collingwood v Hawthorn is an interesting case study. Pendlebury, Swan, Beams vs Mitchell, Lewis, Hodge? I would think the Collingwood trio are on a lot more money but are they that much better and is it the best way to spend your salary cap? Cloke is also probably on a lot more money than Roughead?

Isn't there a set of rules they follow like if the player is under say 26 they get a pick directly after there first pick and also something to do with how much they are paid before they leave? Explains why frawley is pick 3 and the rest really. Thomas would have been 11 due to collingwood finishing 5-6th that year and GWS and gc still getting top picks. Explains why buddy is pick 19 strait after there first pick due to the hawks winning the flag. Dalsanto over 28-29 meaning u get something late first rd early second and Waite over 30 in lower paid players group and u get nothing. That's how I think it designed and looks like it works well Waite had an opp to get more money rather than be held to ransom by the blues. Not sure how Goddard was 13 maybe a pick after the bottom 10 teams inc GWS and gc at the top couple of picks still to. I think the system works pretty well myself
