CURRENT DRAFT:

DEF- Hibbo, birchall, hurn, newnes, waters, bews. Rainbow/ Edwards

MID- GAJ, pendles, fyfe, jelwood, danger, wines, NVB, sheed. Boekhurst/freeman/krakeour

RUC- NICNAT, TBC. read

FWD- Deledio, dusty, clark, saad, hogan, lambert. Steele/daniel

$40,300 LEFT

If anything fyfe is out of midfield for a rookie. Would use cash to start another prem in fwd line and would probs ditch saad.

Alot depends on mid rookie options- have to assess at round 1.
Acres, newton, nvb, sheed all got experience @around 200k but hopefully a few bottom priced rookies look good prior to rd 1.

And bews is my without any facts my smokey to get some rebound 50 work off the back of big preseason at this stage.

Just had a bit of a play around with a team. Would love some thoughts.

DEF: H Shaw, M Hibberd, S Hurn, J Newnes, B Waters, M Fuller, J Hamling, $102,400 rookie
MID: S Pendlebury, J Selwood, B Goddard, T Cotchin, D Hannebery, N Van Berlo, B Newton, J Laverde, N Freeman, 2 x $102,400 rookies
RUC: N Naitanui, M Kruezer, M Cox
FWD: L Franklin, D Martin, D Swan, T Walker, T Bellchambers, M Clark, J Hogan, $102,400 rookie
$26,900 remaining.

I figure there are 14-15 keepers (fingers crossed), 3-4 mid pricers, and 12 rookies.
Bye structure for keepers is 3/7/4 so that might need a little tweaking but overall reasonably happy with initial team.
Those rookies are gonna be a problem. Don't get me wrong, the team itself is good, but comes seasons end you'll regret having non-playing rookies on the pine and a team that isn't complete.

You need to get in the likes of H Goddard, N Cockatoo, I Heeney, C Daniel, J Steele, D Mckenzie, B Boekhorst. They all cost more but should/will play and make you money.

So I have already posted this but felt like doing a breakdown of each line to explain my choices. I've tried to balance my team as best I could.

DEF: K Simpson, H Shaw, M Hibberd, R Henderson, G Ibbotson, B Waters (M Karpany, H Goddard)
This has been my hardest line to settle on. As everyone knows, there are no real standout premiums in defence, but Simpson is a lock for me because he is so darn reliable. The same goes for Hibberd. Shaw is a bit of a gamble but he should average ~95 and on his day can blast out a decent 120+ score. Henderson, Ibbo and Waters are all midpriced gambles and if 1 of them turns into a keeper I think I'll have come out well. I think its important to look for value in defence until the real standout premiums uncover themselves mid-season.

MID: G Ablett, N Fyfe, T Cotchin, M Murphy, A Swallow, N Cockatoo, I Heeney, B Boekhorst (J Laverde, D Mckenzie, R Atkins)
Gaz=lock (obviously). Fyfe=lock. I would've liked to have started with Pendles too but I just can't afford him so I've gone semi-value in Cotchin and Murphy. Both can improve on last year and I am hoping for 110+ from both. It pains me to say it because I had Cotchin all of last year and all he gave me was frustration. Swallow is real value for me. Expecting big things from him and at such a small price. Then its the rookies. Pretty standard structure here and I think it should work well.

RUC: N Naitanui, M Leuenberger (S Durdin)
Not really much to be said here. NicNat should hold down first ruck position for the Eagles all year and should average 100+. Luey is a walking timebomb who probably won't last till his bye

FWD: B Deledio, B Goddard, D Swan, T Mitchell, M Clark, J Hogan (C Daniel, J Steele)
Lids and Goddard are locks. Don't see any other way around it. Swan is a risk and I'll monitor him closely over the NAB Cup to see if he's getting the mid time he needs. Mitchell is another no-brainer, especially at his price - if he plays which he should. Clark and Hogan are both too cheap to ignore if they can keep their bodies right going into round 1. I've semi-stacked the forward line because its obvious enough who the real premiums are going to be this season.

Yeah don't mind it. In my humble opinion going. With Swallow, Cotch, Murph is a big risk with 1 at best (0 most likely) getting to 110+. That's just how I'm seeing it.
I also think those mid premiums take the spot of a mid rookie which their just seems to be an absolute tonne at the moment.
Using that money you could upgrade a henderson to a premium and add a bit of Spare cash to use elsewhere.

That's my just perspective, just obviously to do with how well you think those mid premiums and Mid priced defenders will score.

Yeah I've thought about it. I don't know if its just me but I'm not seeing as many mid rookies as others are. Maybe I should look at Rich? Like I said the only reason I haven't spent more in the backline is because I just don't know which premos to trust. I don't really like any of them!

In your opinion what will Rich score? He could come into my team if he looks like scoring

Oh well, after fiddling constantly with my team over the past few weeks, I've finally found a team i really like. (At least for now).

I'd tell you al my reasoning for each player but i don't want to bore you to death.
Put simply;
Big reliance on forward and mid rookies - There seem to be so many this year compared to last.
Gone the big scorers in Fyfe and rocky who seem to be somewhat unique and have the potential to pump out an average of 250-260 each week between then.
Set and forget rucks. lol

Have a bees **** left over. 9K
last year ended up having 270K sit on my bench for weeks so I've decided not to make a conscious effort to leave any amount of money in the kitty. Although 50K would be preferred.

Its on the Higginator (from jock reynolds) so thats why its a weird layout.

I saw this team and thought it was too good to be true and unfortunately it is.

Mate, you've overspent by $265,400!

Hi BB,
I just saved the team and it came up can't afford that player but it allowed me the first time must have been a cliche like NK had last year , it was when i put in Newnes so what do i do now and who do i change

Maybe just one of Buddy, Dusty or Deledio to Bellchambers to give you that ruck coverage and then just downgrade Lever to a cheaper rookie to fit within the cap.

I would put Deledio into the midfield in place of Jelwood, Membrey in place of Deledio and upgrade Waters to Birchall. I don't think Waters is a keeper and will only be in my team if there is a complete lack of cheaper rookies. Not sure if these cover the gap in finances?
