Gday guys, first time poster here.

Would like to see if you guys have any feedback for my preliminary team for 2015.

DEF: Hibberd, Birchall, Shaw, Waters, Whitecross, McKenzie (Goddard, Viojo-Rainbow)
MID: Ablett, Pendlebury, Fyfe, Sloane, Van Berlo, Cripps, Heeney, Daniel (Steele, Freeman, Atkins)
RUCK: Jacobs, Goldstein (A Smith)
FWD: Deledio, Goddard, Martin, Mitchell, Salem, Clark (Hogan, Laverde)

$41,300 left to play with.
A lot of money in the in the rucks. I would personally not start with two 550K+ ruckman as they will lose money. If you want you could downgrade one into Nic Nat and upgrade one of your defenders.

Welcome Seedsman. Its a good a side as any so far, You will find great camaraderie here. You need think about Swan in the forward line and Newnes in the backline. Jacobs is a big investment, NicNat consider.
Where is Paul S in the backline!!

Hi Court,
As per yesterdays post and error like some feedback

Freo thought i should :
I would put Deledio into the midfield in place of Jelwood, Membrey in place of Deledio and upgrade Waters to Birchall. I don't think Waters is a keeper and will only be in my team if there is a complete lack of cheaper rookies. Not sure if these cover the gap in finances?

The Beast thought i should:
Maybe just one of Buddy, Dusty or Deledio to Bellchambers to give you that ruck coverage and then just downgrade Lever to a cheaper rookie to fit within the cap.

Bloke said Newnes to Goddard but Newnes trade was disallowed after i saved it , so what do think i should do , i have changed Hurns to Newnes so backline reads :

Smith , Hibberd , Newnes , Waters ,Lever , Goddard , Rainbow/Saad
, rest of team is exactly as that post , thoughts please

PS Seedsman had McKenzie in his team is that the GC one

$79.600 left

Leave Deledio in the forward line, Joel Selwood in the mids. Pick Martin and Deledio, not Franklin or Bellchambers. Forego ruck coverage, pick Nankervis.
Pick Newnes.

Hi Seedsman. I don't know if you have had a chance to read some of the articles on the home page but it's a great intro to the site and you might think twice about a couple of your selections (junior wolf and courtesans both mentioned the rucks). But your basic structure is really solid with only a couple of the speculative picks that seem to get us all into trouble.

Nankervis in place of Read, very skilled young ruckman for the Swans. Played all 2014 in the seconds, very good stats before hand.

Food for thought thx , but would have to change Lever to a another rookie any suggestions ?? as i only have 1300 in the bank , who are the good rookie defenders at this stage and who is likely to start

I honestly see none of Barlow, Murph or Boak getting above 108 av and neither Swallow or Montagna getting above 103. Unless you see the first 3 going 114+ and the other 2 going 110+ I'm not sure how your going to get the big scores in the latter half of the season MELBOURNE.
You can't just assume that swallow will not average above 103, if you did Some research and actually looked at his history he is quite a good choice,

2010 average : 106.2
2011 average : 111.9
2012 average : 109
2013 average : 101.1 (injury affected year) (17 games)
2014 average : 93.1 ( 1st year back from injury played his first game in round 9.
It usually takes injured players a year to settle back in and find fitness and form again so this year swallow will have a preseason under his belt and will play nab games before he starts the season.
I am confident he will average above 108.
Everyone has an opinion and I'm not trying to have a go at you just wanted to show what value swallow presents.

As a North supporter, here are my personal views on Swallow.

2011 - His average is inflated by a score of 193.
2012 - 7 scores of 120+, season gives a much better representation of what he can average at his best.
2013 - I don't see his average affected by injury, only his game total. I see round 18 (his injury game of 78) as just another low score.

The problem with selecting Swallow (you seem very gung-ho on him) is he has always put out a fair amount of poor scores between 60-90.
2011 - 8 scores between 60-90 from 22 games.
2012 - 5 scores between 60-90 from 22 games.
2013 - 5 scores between 60-90 from 17 games.

Scores of 120+ which is the barometer of true premium midfielders.
2011 - 9 scores of 120+
2012 - 7 scores of 120+
2013 - 4 scores of 120+

Personally i would back him to average between 98-103 before 103-108+.

I have to disagree here. He was having a strong game (15 disposals and 78 SCpts) before blowing out his achilles in the 3rd quarter, which would have seen him average ~105pts for the season. Everything else is spot on with, hopefully, a full preseason and NAB sees the return to the 105+ range with his TOG returning to 80%.

15 disposals with 5 kicks, 10 handballs, 3 tackles, 1 mark and 4 free kicks... Those stats are hardly strong into the 3rd quarter. Probably lucky to get 78pts imo. I think it was only because it was in a huge 122 point win against Melbourne he still scored well.

"Q3 03:00 Swallow has been forced from the field after slipping whilst attempting to turn in the centre square, he is receiving attention to his left achilles/ calf area."

Handballed as he tore his achilles within 3 minutes of the start of the 3rd quarter, meaning he had ~70 pts at half time when the score was 6.9 to 3.2. I consider that a strong game. Likely 110+ minimum from there.

Would have thought there is nothing that is not speculative about rookies.
Last year I did not really bother with whom was to be my rookies till I saw the real AFL season opening ( exception of Dom Tyson and Polec but they were not truly rookies) and actual teams picked. It was tricky however having the first round spread over two weeks. Thankfully this year that won't happen. Having Langdon getting a good score in first weekend was a nice start in terms of rookies.

I think wait until round one, however get to know who the various rookies are going into round one that you get to choose from. I just think do not get fixated on locking any in until that very first week you see AFL team selections show up.
