"Q3 03:00 Swallow has been forced from the field after slipping whilst attempting to turn in the centre square, he is receiving attention to his left achilles/ calf area."

Handballed as he tore his achilles within 3 minutes of the start of the 3rd quarter, meaning he had ~70 pts at half time when the score was 6.9 to 3.2. I consider that a strong game. Likely 110+ minimum from there.
From what I've seen, most of the time when a player goes down injured, their scores inflate somewhat by the end of the match. So at the time I expect his score would have been around 60, then got scaled up. Also in a 120 point victory, earlier quarters would have been scaled more so I don't think he was looking at anything 110+ that game.

It doesn't matter if he scored 110 or 90 really, either way I agree with you, that year was not really injury affected as if he scored 90 or 110 it only changes his average by either 1 or 2 points. He is still around the 103 mark at best.

I don't think it's a bad pick though, he offers value, can score enough to be a M7 or M8 keeper and is a good POD, little downside to him that you can plan for (anyone can get injured again). However trying to go for so many POD in the team will only hurt in my opinion. Lumumba, Ibbotson, Waters, Barlow, Murphy, Boak, Montagna, Ziebell, TBC... fair bit of risk going on here?

Happy Australia Day to you all,

Thought I'd post a first-cut. Note: Haven't selected rookies yet (pretty pointless), but allocated an average cost of about $140k to them (to accommodate the occasional $200k player):

DEF: Shaw, Hibberd, Hurn, Waters, Rookie (x4)
MID: Ablett, Pendlebury, JPK, Sidebottom, Rookie (x7)
RUC: Goldstein, Naitanui, Rookie (x1)
FWD: Goddard, Franklin, Martin, Swan, Mitchell, Rookie (x3)

Theoretically, this would leave me with about $15k - $20k left over.

The ones in BOLD are the ones I'm very set on, the rest are to 'fill in the blanks', or to await more reseach (at this stage).

Appreciate any thoughts in advance.

K Simpson, M Hibberd, G Birchall, S Hurn, B Waters, H Goddard.
(D Viojo-Rainbow, N Newman.)

G Ablett, S Pendlebury, R Sloane, B Deledio, O Wines, J Anderson, I Heeney, B Boekhorst.
(N Freeman, J Steele (m/f), N Krakouer (m/f).)

N Naitanui, M Leuenberger. (T Read.)

B Goddard, L Franklin, D Martin, D Swan, M Clark, J Hogan.
(D Menzel, C Daniel.)

1 k remaining. 10/10/10.

Starting Lids in the mids but he will move into forward line when cows mature.
No ruck cover with this team. Have TBC in another team but unsure if he is the ruck cover I want.
Happy enough with the structure, just have to keep a close eye on TBC's pre season games.

I like the absence of many or arguably any speculative picks especially in defence

Stopping at 4 premium mids in your case allows strong balance across all lines.

Well done

I'd be concerned about starting so many DPPs in the MID (Deledio, 2 rookies) ... maybe 1 rookie at most. No real need for Deledio to be there from the start, and just taking up the spot of another genuine MID premium.

Other than that ... great job!

Hey guys, been putting something together in the hope of moving up the ladder this year... aimed to crack the 10k in rankings for the first time last year and feel short due to a number of factors, looking to go a much safer (and hopefully smarter!) team this year. I spent so many trades fixing mistakes last year... anyway, please tear the following apart;

Backline: I am hoping for some more rookies to emerge but I feel I will struggle to find more than 3 decent rookie picks forcing me to take Waters. Otherwise I wouldn't mind dropping him for a rookie to save the money. I think I am dreaming he can go 90+ and be a keeper and therefore is just going to waste money (when a rookie could make more) and possible a trade or two (when he gets injured). Simpson in contention over Shaw for consistency? The Koljash is a gun and missed last preseason, my main risk I guess but I feel he could really break out this year.

Midfield: Skipping Rocky as I feel he is around 50k over priced especially with a few back into the Brissy lineup including Beams. Can't spread the butter to thin... I have the main 4 pegged as top 6 scores for the year and locks all year... pretty obvious I know. Griffen I feel can get back to 105+ ppg, I think GWS will help rather than hinder him.

Rucks: 2 potential underpriced keepers. I don't trust Malthouse... surely you would play such a talented Ruck as your ruck? If he doesn't and Carlton struggle with Warnock kicking it out on the full from 15m directly in front I will be happy in life but not in SC! Otherwise I am considering the Berg but I have Kreuzer above him at the moment.

Forwards: Pretty straight forward I think with 4 decent keepers including some value, Tom Mitchell / Buddy / TBC considered but I would like a POD and Bennell is a serious talent and could easily be a top end fwd over the course of the year especially when you would imagine Gold Coast will continue to climb the ladder.

Would love some feedback!

KK to Whitecross, Kruezer to Goldstein IMO. Gives you a keeper, but relies on trusting Whitecross.

Hi all, somewhat settled on this for NAB

D: Smith, Birchall, Newnes, Roberton, Walters, **** (V Rainbow, Goddard)
M: Ablett, Pendlebury, Selwood, Ward, Van Berlo, Boekhorst, Freeman, Heeney, (Cavka, Neal-Bullen, krakouer)
R: Goldstein, Naitanui (Read)
F: Deledio, Franklin, Martin, Swan, Mitchell, Hogan (Steele, Caleb)

Bye structure: 9/11/10

Cash left: $47,600

Comments:

Def: Absolutely no interest in loading up oh high priced def this year and there are no real stand outs. Smith could easily become Simpson but still unsure... Newnes/Roberton/Waters all somewhat risky but allows me to load up the rucks and fwd which should give more ppg.
Mid: 4 guns, should be top 8 or there abouts.... NVB a high priced rookie, will be the first to be downgraded should there be more rookies that present themselves in mid after the NAB cup. Most rookies are placeholders
Ruck: Set and forget ruckman. Year after year I burn unnecessary trades trying to fix ruck, so starting out with 2 ruckman which could be top 5 at the end of the year..
Fwd: Lids, Franklin and Martin should be top 10 if not higher. Swan and Mitchell are well priced, not 100% sure on Mitchell. He could easily become Salem which will make NVB a prem, so will play it by ear. I honestly don't get the hype over Mitch Clark - 4 games last season, 11 games the season before, had a niggle recently, not entirely convincing imo...

14 Keepers should Swan and Mitchell go ok.

Have a bit of coin left over for the inevitable rookie swaps, but most rookies selected are not basement price and in a perfect world should actually gain coin if there are cheaper rookies looking good closer to round 1. Settled on the team somewhat and will eagerly await rookies closer to the date.

Cheers!

Welcome Footysams,
To many midpricers for me. McKenzie, Suckling, Waters, Prestia, Swallow, Bellchambers. Cut those down to 2 or 3, get a gold plated premium or 2 instead.

Agree with Courtesans that the only major issue would be having two 'risky' rucks. If you're going to have a Kreuzer / Leuenberger type, then your R1 needs to be a safe pick (i.e.: Goldstein).

Other than that, good job, like where your brain is taking you.

Structure looks good, although I'm not sold on Smith scoring as well / better this year. Similarly, Van Berlo doesn't seem worth it in the MID ... never averaged that well before, so can't see him being a massive cash cow.

Otherwise, all good. Like the Goldstein / Naitanui combo.

Too early to say for sure but 4xDef rookies may end up one too many.

Well you have 13 keepers, but are they gold plated? Personally, I don't think Maric and Bennell are, but they may be!
Van Berlo has been in and out of my side, he has the sniff of Dale Thomas v. 14 about him. could be a tagger, may play in the guts, sure can play though.
Ibbotson is a good ordinary player, not worth it I reckon. Gilbert, not sure. Newnes is the rage it seems.

Having another play around after feedback from last post in here.

Simpson, Hibberd, Rampe, Waters, Edwards, Rookie (x3)
Ablett, Pendlebury, Fyfe, Greene, Wines, Rookie (x6)
Jacobs, Nic Nat, Rookie (r/f)
Deledio, Goddard, Swan, Lycett (r/f), Mitchell, Hogan, Rookie (x2).

I really like the structure of this side.

Depending on how many "premium"/"breakout" players one has in defence will make or break 2015 with lack of previous "gold plated" (as Courtesans has been using lately) like other years. I would put a lot of money that the 2015 winner will start with the perfect combination of premos (Simpson + Hibberd), breakout contenders (Rampe), fallen/returning players (Waters) and rookies. This might just be me but I think it may be hard to find playing defence rookies (that score well and have good job security) but we all must wait for NAB games. To have 2 rookies on field may leave you vulnerable if you are stuck with a KPP. One name to look out for in NAB games in Newnes as he is touted as getting a lot more midfield time at Saints.

Midfield looks interesting with Greene and Wines. Both look like they can go a step further in 2015. However do you think they can score 110+ average to be keepers and not leak points with other seasoned scores like Selwood, JPK, Beams and co?

Rucks are interesting this year. I feel that having a discounted ruck (that looks set to make money as well as scoring well until you find that "set and forget" rucks of 2015) will be a good stepping stone (personal opinion). We never know how scoring output will change with new rules.

I really don't think you need Lycett in forward like as a backup ruckman (if you think Nic Nat may go down?). I think F/R links are only there if you have one of those 300k ruckman that have bad injury histories.

Looks pretty good before we find those rookies from NAB games.
