ADELAIDE coach Phil Walsh says he is prepared to push players “off the cliff” in a searching pre-season that has claimed Sam Jacobs and David Mackay. Jacobs — arguably Adelaide’s most important player — is nursing a jarred medial ligament while wingman Mackay suffered a hamstring strain as Adelaide’s first pre-season under Walsh heats up. Recovery time for each player is unclear, but the injuries are considered likely four-week setbacks.
Adelaide’s first NAB Challenge game is against North Melbourne in Port Lincoln on March 1 — more than five weeks away.
Young midfielder Matt Crouch has also been forced to wear a moon boot following surgery two weeks ago to repair his left ankle after he fell awkwardly at training.
