No I don't think so. We use Ellis as a rebounding HBF'er. He doesn't have the body strength or height to be a lock-down defender.
I don't think I could pick Ellis in my team, his injury history is just too hard to ignore. If your looking at WCE Defender's, Elliott Yeo is a much better option who is nearly 10k cheaper, and has a tremendous upside with his likely move into the midfield.

Last year he averaged 88ppg per 100% TOG compared to Ellis' 108.
I know it's risky but I just think with your guys early draw if he plays the first 8 rounds he could do pretty well. However I know that's a lot of money to spend on a bloke you are most likely going to ditch but I just can't see someone like Yeo getting to a 90+ average unless he does as you say move into the midfeild.
Think I'll need to see more in the NAB out of Yeo to pick him. Was he playing mid/wing?

Yeo took a dip down on my watch list after Friday's game where he seemed to be playing pretty deep in the backline and I barely saw him playing on ball at all. See if that changes over the next few games but unless I see him doing it in preseason would be a likely mid price trap taking him, at least Ellis's current position is more SC friendly compared with Yeo?
I think most dogs players will suffer because of this, they will be locking in a pretty solid wooden spoon result with Griffen and Libba both out all year, I couldn't see much upside except in a few possible rookie selections available as a result, I certainly wouldn't be considering any dogs mid pricers. I was strongly considering the Bont or Dahlhaus but I don't think they are viable options anymore

Yeah he did seem to be playing a more defensive role on the weekend, would definitely liked to have seen more from him and a better SC score but 74 from 14 touches is far from bad.
Will just have to watch and see the next couple of games.
It's really hard in Defense this year and everyone is looking for the sure thing... But it's just not there. You are going to have to take risks no matter how you structure your team whether that be by selecting any of of the top 7 or 8 priced Defenders who to me all have there own issues whether that be age or injury histories, or picking mid-priced defenders who are yet to prove themselves. With the lack of rookie defenders and the lack of really top end reliable defenders, you are going to have to take risks.

Young Cat out for five months after foot surgery
UNLUCKY Cat Lincoln McCarthy will have surgery on his left foot in Sydney on Tuesday.
The injury is expected keep him sidelined for five months.
The talented McCarthy, who has played just five games since his debut in 2012, had trouble with his foot pre-Christmas, but it was the recurrence of an old injury that has led to surgery.
Cats' football manager Steve Hocking told K-Rock Football the 21-year-old needed the operation to generate blood flow back into the foot.
"It’s the cartilage that lines the joint where your leg bones come down and your foot actually joins in,” Hocking said.
"He’s got some corrosion in the area. It’s like a flap that’s hanging within that cartilage.
"What they have to do is get in there and irritate that cartilage, and that generates blood flow and regenerates it.
"The lack of blood flow into that region is a real concern for anyone who suffers from a fracture within that bone."
"For us it is really about his long-term wellbeing. That is the important part at this stage," Hocking told AFL.com.au a fortnight ago.
Hocking said McCarthy was a resilient youngster and the Cats were confident it had systems in place to support him. McCarthy was also contracted until the end of 2016, so had time to get his body right.
The Cats escaped the opening NAB Challenge game against the Suns in Townsville unscathed and have a relatively slim injury list at this stage.

INJURY ALERT | Shane Biggs has sustained bone bruising in his knee which has put his standout preseason on ice for the moment.
From the Bulldogs website;
“Shane had a little bit of bone bruising in his knee, through a contact injury. We’re just working through to make sure that settles down in the appropriate way and managing his loads but he’s coming back into full training as well.”
