Mitchell is giving a second effort and watching the ball the entire time. Again he doesn't run at the man, the man goes to block him and comes off second best. I would be saying throw the book at someone if they are deliberately going out to knee people, but if the Taylor Walker incident hadn't happened, this wouldn't even be looked at. Two blokes ran into each other and one got a corkey. Who cares?

I think shame on Taylor Walker - the captain of a footy club - having a sook about it on twitter with his lightning strikes twice comment. I can't see Hodgey whinging about a corkey if the situation was reversed. Harden up.
Agreed 100%!!!!!
Couldn't have put it any better.

I my opinion Fyfe should be alright also. A big fuss made over not much tbh.

If the commentators and media had their way every single player would be in front of the MRP panel every week. Selwood, Fyfe and Mitchell should all get thrown out. Taylor Adams probably deserves a couple.

I disagree, you can't raise your knee like that every time contact occurs, it's not a good look & he would have known exactly who it was as well. We'll have to wait & see what the MRP decides
Hoping the MRP views this as ridiculous as I think it definitely is. I have seen heaps of players raise their knees to brace for contact. This was one of those instances. Players get corkies all the time. Might as well stop contact completely if players are going to be suspended for protecting themselves from contact.

If you see someone approaching you to bump you, you do not stand straight and let them collect you, you brace yourself and protect yourself.

My opinion, again, will not even be looked at by the MRP.

I'm not so convinced as some that there was nothing in it at all, but I don't really see how the MRP can sanction him given the dismissal of the Walker one.

Agreed, but precedent has hardly been a factor this year - RE: Gibbs vs Schulz sling tackle

"Contact between Hawthorn’s Sam Mitchell and the Adelaide Crows’ Taylor Walker from the second quarter of Thursday’s match was assessed. Walker approaches Mitchell to shepherd him from his teammate as Adelaide moves the ball forward. Michell raises his arm and leg to protect himself and brace for contact, and makes contact with Walker. It was the view of the panel that Mitchell’s actions were not reportable and no further action was taken."

That's the Taylor Walker one. How could this one be viewed any differently - especially given it was FAR LESS SEVERE?

Either way if Mitchell gets games or gets off, we can all agree hes a bit of a grub. Should get a game IMO, its not an accident if the same thing keeps happening.

Carlton will be without Bryce Gibbs for the rest of the season, with the vice-captain set to undergo surgery today.

Gibbs tore his left pectoral muscle late in the third quarter of Friday night’s match against Richmond.

Carlton’s Head of Football Andrew McKay says after weighing up several options it was decided surgery is the best course of action.

"If we let Bryce's injury heal naturally, he would have still been out for up to eight weeks and could have risked further damage," McKay said.

"By having the procedure now it will ensure Bryce is fully recovered and ready to go for the start of the pre-season.

"Obviously he is clearly disappointed that his season is over, but what this does do is give some of our younger players an opportunity to put their hand up for selection.”

Meanwhile Dennis Armfield will also have surgery this week after suffering a broken arm in the match.

Armfield will have a plate inserted into his right arm, which will sideline him for four weeks.
