I had a quick look into the traded/delisted players from 2014 into 2015 and the scores weren't great...
Of the 22 who changed clubs at the end of 2014, only 5 gained at least +5 and played at least 5 games. Those were:
Garlett (jumped 14 to 62 from 22 games)
M Clark (jumped 6 to 64 from 8)
Varcoe (jumped 10 to 76 from 22)
Hallahan (jumped 15 to 79 from 12)
Biggs (jumped 23 to 71 from 9)

None of which can really be considered 'successful' SC picks barring possibly Biggs as a cow.

In total, of those who played at least 5 games in 2015 (18 of them) the average difference was -3.13 with Whiley the worst offender (-32 down to 50 from 8 games)
I haven't got time to post all the stats or look further back, though perhaps someone else does!

Shaun Higgins 76 to 95.

Would luv some feed back.. Mid price Madness

Yeah way too midpriced for my liking. You will be stuck with a whole lot of players that ultimately do not average enough to be decent keepers.

Picks I like: Bartel, Smith, Ablett, Selwood, Rockliff, Wines, Libba, Crouch, S Martin, Bennell, Greene, Bird

Picks I don't like: Duryea, Carlisle, Harwood, Jones, O'Meara (unlikely to be ready round 1), Mumford (too injury prone), Cloke, Menzel, Anderson

So there are quite a few really good picks there but I think you need to balance the rest out with rookies and premiums.

Hey guys really need some input here. I feel like I am over spending big time in the back 6, but I am pretty happy with my set up and every time I get rid of shaw I feel like I am not putting the dollars to better use

Shaw, mcveigh, Boyd, bartel, hibberd (nm), bonner, rice, Cole
Ablett, Sloane, rocky, Selwood, libba, fiorini, freeman, cuningham, o'kearney, keays, mathison
Goldie, Martin, Wyatt
Martin, barlow, Harvey, buddy, petracca, brown, kerridge, crocker

Great looking team..
Only my opinion but I think your backline may be to strong to start with!!
Shaw will drop I think about 50-75k by rounds 7-10.
Midfield is nearly exactly like mine..:D
Set and forget rucks :D
Solid forward line, Buddy ??

I tend to agree bender, that you have probably overspend in the backline, probably at the expense of your midfield. But, if you are comfortable with your midfield and enough mid rookies are playing round 1 to go 5-6, then this is a pretty good structure.

Structure wise I think this set up is ideal with keepers 4-5-2-4 for a total of 15 (assuming Libber and Buddy are keepers).

As I said before as long as you can get enough rookies playing round 1 this is a great set-up, well done.

Thanks guys. I just really am not a fan of many of the backs. Yes shaw is overpriced but I still feel he will be one of only a few to average over 100. Simpson is appealing to me but I can only see him averaging mid 90s so again there is no real rush to grab him.
In regards to buddy I am more than happy with grabbing him at that price when I feel he will be a 100 point player. The lack of these in defense is blurring my judgement

Defence: McVEIGH, BARTEL, YEO, SMITH - Rainbow, Brown - Durdin, Smith

Mid: DANGERFIELD, ABLETT, SHIEL, ROCKCLIFF, WINES, CROUCH - Trengove, Gore, Jansen, Fiorini, Cunningham

Ruck: GOLDSTEIN, LEUENBURGER - King

Forward: MARTIN, WINGARD, MERRETT, GREENE - Kerridge, Petracca, Ahern, Kommer

100k leftover .. rookies obviously rough, thoughts on selections, non selections and structure would be appreciated !

Cheers!

Hey all! I, like most of you, made a promise to myself to not touch SC this year until after the first NAB challenge game, but like a drunken New Year's Eve resolution on the 8th of January, it's gone to sh*t, and here i am.

It's good to be back and i hope everyone's been having an enjoyable off-season!

Without further ado, here's my first crack for the 2016 season and a few random thoughts of where i'm at at this early stage.

DEF: McVeigh, Hibberd, Yeo, Smith, Thurlow [Hipwood, Brown (WCE), Bonner]
MID: Pendlebury, Ablett, Sloane, Rockliff, Liberatore, Crouch [Freeman, Mathieson, Gresham, Kerridge, Davis]
RUC: Martin, Leuenberger [Nyuon]
FWD: Deledio, Barlow, Harvey, Brayshaw, Menzel [Petracca, West, Brown (Ess)]

Locks - I'll be definitely running with these guys, barring catastrophe in pre-season. McVeigh, B Smith, Sloane, Rocky, Libba, Crouch, Leuey, Lids. Not putting Ablett and Pendles in this category just yet, but they're close. Their status will have a bit to do with a couple of blokes i have in the "wait and see" category..

Smokies - Jackson Thurlow and Angus Brayshaw. Backing these guys in for a breakout season, will probably only pick one of them based on pre-season form but wanted both in my initial side for posterity.

Wait and see - Fyfe, Selwood, Bennell. Same as everyone, i hate starting with guys that have had an interrupted pre-season but if signs start looking good then Fyfe and Selwood especially will be in quick-smart. Otherwise they'll be at the top of the early upgrades list once the real stuff starts. I'm also liking the look of McGovern as a swingman at his price. It'll be interesting to see what role he gets if all of WCE's tall defenders are back, but if he gets a SC friendly loose role and is over his injuries, i could definitely be tempted.

Just missed out - Parker, Franklin. Feel that Parker's propensity to hit the scoreboard will stand him in good stead with the further reduction in interchanges, but having a total mental blank as to why he dropped off last year (injuries/form/role? anyone have any insight?) so he's out at this stage. Buddy's price tag has almost sucked me in, but i'm not sure i can take another ride on that rollercoaster.

Structure - Like the thought of pairing up Martin/West & Leuenberger/Nyuon in the rucks for safety but it all but guarantees at least one ruck donut during 2 of the 3 bye rounds which i'm not entirely sold on. Hibberd, Yeo, Barlow and Harvey i'm also not in love with so if i need to restructure based on some extra likely rookies that present in either the DEF or FWDs then one from that list will be dropped. Will also definitely sharpen up on the "mid-priced madness" look of this initial team and only go for a couple of the more speculative picks in this current version, but all in all i'm pretty happy at this early stage!

Excellent work, really like the justifications when people post their team. Helps limit groupthink! Looking good.

Agree on the Fyfe, Selwood and Bennell thoughts. Bennell is very injury prone and that calf is a constant worry. But if he comes good in the new year he seems very tempting!

Did you have too much Wine and Popcorn? :)

I don't see the Brayshaw breakout but I'm still kicking myself for not taking the Bont after he sat in my team all preseason. Sloane is a flat track bully and Adelaide have a horrendous start to the year, try Ollie Wines instead who has plenty of room to improve with his time on ground. Nyuon won't give you a link to West. Wyatt appears to be the best cheap R/F. I'm trying to distance my bias from Bennell and Barlow but it is proving difficult. Bennell will give us back to back brownlows.

Selwood was an absolute lock for me as soon as I heard the Danger signing so I'm massively disappointed to be leaving him out at this stage. I think he had a similarly interrupted preseason for 2014 from memory so I'm not entirely ruling him out yet.

Have a sneaking suspicion that 2017 might be Bennell's year. Seems to take at least a season for "troubled" guys to buy in to Lyon's methods and similarly for them to earn his respect. Thinking of Walters there.. Will Bennell do a Walters or a Sylvia is the $50k question!

Disagree on your groupthink comment though. I can find myself considering players I never would if I read a particularly compelling argument, especially if it's from a poster I respect, like most of the regulars here! Haha!

Shaun Higgins 76 to 95.
Spot on happydays! There was a 'page 2' that I didn't factor in! 5 more players:
Waite 91.4(from 16) dropped to 80.2 (20)
Higgins 76.5 (from 20) jumped to 94.7 (21)
Frawley 77.3(21) dropped to 57.7 (14)
Malceski 105.4(22) dropped to 71.1 (16)
Gwilt 72.3 (17) jumped to 77.1 (11)

So -11, +18, -20, -34, +5 roughly.. Which still supports my post anyway.
These were only the traded free agents anyway, the delisted ones were better off.

Hallahan (jumped 15 to 79 from 12)
Biggs (jumped 23 to 71 from 9)
Higgins (jumped 18 to 94.7 from 21)

None of which can really be considered 'successful' SC picks barring possibly Biggs as a cow. Higgins can!
In total, of those who played at least 5 games in 2015 (23 of them) the average difference was -4.28 with Malceski the worst offender (-34.3 down to 71.1 from 16 games)

Probably a bit too much wine and popcorn over the festive season freowho, you're spot on. Glad to see a friendly face (profile pic??) on my first day back!

I'm very bullish on Brayshaw, probably because he completely dominated against us last year in rnd 12 where he played like an ollie wines with better skills. Games against your own team make more of an impression in the memory I guess.. I guess that's why Carlton recruited Liam Jones lol.

On the ruck link, I had west as backup to Martin and Nyuon as a backup to Leuey. The link is between West and Leuey..

Not convinced that Sloane's a FTB. Kinda don't see inside midfielders as susceptible to the FTB theory, if anything, they seem to thrive against tougher teams. Just my opinion though, no doubt stats will prove me wrong.

Sky's the limit for Bennell. If he comes right, you'll be golden!

Geez it's good to be back on this site talking footy! Missed y'all.

GnR's to slightly more bang for buck.
Begs the question:
Nic Nat - Rookie v Leuey - Bird. Ive gone the latter for this team.

Looks pretty good to me BC. There are only two things I would suggest/highlight:

- I think you might be overpaying somewhat for F1 and F2 - although both are pretty durable, and should be a very high chance to be top forwards, so this is a trade-off I am weighing up myself. Dusty has similar attributes, so switching one of Lids/Montagna for him might be an option.

- Beams misses games every season - on average almost 1 in 3 - and is probably one of the least durable ultra premiums. Someone like Pendles is only slightly dearer and much more reliable. Beams is a gun, but hard to pick in your starting side in my view - if you upgrade to him, you only need to cross your fingers for half the season :p If you want to raise cash, you could look at Bird to Wells (assuming Bird isn't an intended keeper), Kennedy to a different "rookie", or Martin to NicNat.

Cheers mate, im hoping bird scores good enough to be my f6.
Biggest concern with this team is leuey. He's a headache waiting to happen i think
