It's of course very unlikely that this would be my final team but it's what I'd like to have right now. i'd feel very confident going in with those 14 premos each week at the start of the year.
This time of year I like to settle on what I would like to have which is Guns and Rookies with my personal preferences of players and then let the rookies decide through the NAB if I'm going to need to change. I think there is a good chance that there are more quality rookies coming out of the forward line this year. I may even consider going in with only 2 200k plus players in the Fwd line. I really don't what to have to spend coin on more than 3 defenders so I hope the rookies come up - the Bombers saga should help this possibility with Francis, Brown and Hartley all a chance.
Which super premo's not to take - this is always one of the biggest opening selection issues. Which super premo will I upgrade to and which will I leave behind. My risk with this team is going the Danger/Treloar combo over Selwood/Pendles. I want them all in my team eventually but early in the year this decision will be big in dictating where I am compared to the pack.
No midpricers - this year seems to once again be the year of the midpricer with Leuy, Lobbe, Bird, Libba, Crouch etc etc etc. Going no mid pricers means I hope my last picked premo's of Barlow, Simpson and Wines outscore the cheaper equivalents like Bird, Crouch and Libba by enough to counter the extra rookie on field. I still think this is the way to go as long as you nail the right rookie selections, If Libba, Crouch or O'Meara look to be flying in the NAB I may get cold feet and pick one though as you also can't look a gift horse in the mouth in this game either - think Sandi at under 300k a few years ago!
OK I'm done with team tinkering for now until NAB - will focus on building up my watchlist and reviewing fixtures and byes a bit more closely.
Random thoughts.....
Byes will be different this year as they are so late. We will be entering them with teams that are much more upgraded. People who pioneer this strategy the best will get a big ranking boost. I can sense some big moves trading in/out guns happening.
I think North and Port are in for big years so will be taking a closer look at their players I think....giants looking like they are building too - very tempted by Mumford! other player thoughts right now are that I have no hawks in my team even though they will likely win a lot of games....Roughy is interesting I think he could have a big big year. I'm also interested in Suckling at the dogs if he plays wing/forward - that guy can kick goals and could average over 90 I think...the crows like to play first round picks reasonably early ( not that we have had many!) and Milera looks ready and hasn't put a foot wrong
