Riolli vs Harvey
Rioli for me.
Coming off a career best year, looks to have the injuries behind him (thank god as a Hawks supporter) and should only get better.
I'm in the camp also where I think Harvey will only go backwards. I'm not as convinced with him as others are.

Might be a difference in approach here :) When I see a player eight years in who has had the best year of their career, that makes me not want to pick them.

Harvey has also played more games than Rioli in 7 of the last 8 years, and is cheaper.

As above. Harvey all day.

Take out Harvey's 2 subbed games and he averaged 95 and played 22 games with 8 over 100. Rioli played 20 games, averaged 92 with 6 over 100. Harvey also scored about 150 points more for the whole year.
I like Harvey on this comparison.

I too would take Harvey, in fact I have mentioned a few times he will be in my team. But that could be to do with me being a north fan. But from the sounds of it I think you have made your mind up so I would still with cyril

I should probably mention that I noticed something on Rioli after I posted, for completeness.

The main reason I wouldn't want to pick a ninth year player who has just had a career best year is their price. I don't want to be choosing players priced at what is likely to be their max output, especially if they have played long enough for their "level" to have been set already. I wouldn't go anywhere near someone like Armitage, for example.

Rioli is actually priced seven points below his career best, and has beaten his 2015 average three times, and essentially matched it once. On this basis, price is not a strong argument against picking him (in absolute terms - Harvey and others are still lower-priced/may be more attractively priced). I assumed from Goodie's comments that Rioli had had his best SC year in 2015. Given that he hasn't, it might be worth thinking about whether he is now in a less SC-friendly role, given that he may have had his best (footy) year but not bested his previous SC highs. Something to consider for anyone looking at picking him.

Montagna + B.Smith

or

Dahl + Bartel
Dahl & Bartel. Both should be top 10 in each of their respective positions.

Montagna is overpriced imo and a good upgrade target. Smith has only ever had one season where he has averaged enough to be a keeper so the jury is still out.

Martin vs. Sam Jacobs vs. A.N. Other non-Goldy ruckman

Would be to start as R1, becoming R2.

As a Hawk, I probably wouldn't go with Cyril - not because of his injuries, but because his scoring last year was down and it was his best year in terms of consistency. When I say down, in the games in which we say he played well - he didn't score that high. I just think that as he is playing more as a forward, he will see less of the ball and won't be a high SC scorer. Example... look at the Grand Final. Had a ripper of a game and just scored over 100...

I wouldn't go Harvey either to be honest - I'd prefer Mitch Robinson <--- scary i know... but tackling and contested ball work is great in this game.

My feeling is they have decided running Cyril in the mids too much is too much of an injury risk and so his ceiling becomes what he scored last year. That doesn't make him a bad pick I'm just not seeing much upside there.

Greene is similarly priced are people looking at him as will of those 3 or only taking one?

I would have Martin>NicNat>Jacobs...I honestly believe any of those 3 would be worthy of 'warming up' the R1 spot before you hopefully bring in Goldy to assume his rightful position.

Crouch v JOM

Most teams seem to be selecting Crouch in this equation and I presume it is because he seems to be more advanced with his recovery (although this is only a guess).
Who would you pick based on current fitness reports and then who would you pick if both were fully recovered and ready for Round 1?
