You're welcome, anything to help and yes I suggest you start paying much more closer attention to the top teams.:)

Just out of curiosity, did you not trade out Laird when he was first injured?
Yes I did! My reason for that wasn't a comment on his scoring, but that I was willing to bet he'd be out for more than the claimed 2 weeks. In addition, it allowed me to keep upgrading my team.

If past winners can trade out an in a player, why can't I! I wasn't sure if I'd get laird again, but the way things have turned out mean I want a round 13 defender, and Laird is an option other than Rance, which means either way my pick will be more justified.

I also think Richmond are fairly cooked, so not sure whether Rance will score big, whereas Laird may be let off the chain in safe games.

Who would you go for?

True, but McDonald's not doing that well this year, so I don't want to take that as my example. I feel like Laird has the higher ceiling, but Rance is a touch more reliable. However, I don't like Rance as a footballer, so my gut says Laird.

Out of those 2, I prefer Rance as he has had multiple years scoring at keeper's level to Laird only one and apparently has a CD gold pass.

Upon closer inspection of your current DEF setup, your weakness is your D4 & D5 where you're up against the likes of Docherty and/or Boyd. Again, this is based on current averages as of the end of round 11 and things may change in your favour. If not, then I can see this as being a potential defining negative PODs for your team. You may have other positive PODs along other lines but since we're talking about a DEF upgrade, that's all I'm focus on at the moment.

You can approach this one of two ways:

1. Negate those negative PODs in DEF if you feel confident about your other PODs.
2. Create another POD in DEF with the hope that it will gain you points.

By looking at your starting 22 from last round, ranked in order of their ownership in the T100, may help you to identify where your potential weaknesses are which will hopefully assist with your decision of which way you want to go.

If I win the 50k, chuck me your bank details. This is incredible.

I completely agree with you. My defence has been getting by so far, but that's because it's been carried by a pretty good starting forwardline, and an ruck setup that is perfect.

Rance does have that CD gold pass. That may sway me. I would actually argue my biggest negative POD is the lack of Hannebery, but I only need to survive that for 2 more games, and I'll then get him in Round 15.

Boyd isn't a concern for me. His scoring seems to be a last man standing thing. He is an issue right now though, which I can't really do anything but hope I guess!

I actually could get Docherty this week, however I'm still concerned he's overpriced. I do have the cash to slot him in this week, but that would mean readjusting my bye plans. Would you recommend closing off that negative POD over Rance/Laird this week? I forgot Docherty was a Round 13 bye player.

One player does not make or break your team, plus I honestly think he's overpriced at the moment and that Rance or Laird can be at least his equal from hereon, at around $100k cheaper.

Using Rowsus' example, at the start of the season I would have Docherty pencilled in for 22 games at 90-94 average with scores ranging from 70 to 120. He has scored a total of 1182 points at an average of 107.5 from his first 11 games, with high scores of 147, 135 & 121 and none below 70. With that in mind,

At the start of season: 22 @ 90-94 or 1980-2068 total points
After 11 games: 1182 points (+43 points for all games above 120)
Revised points total: (1980+43) to (2068+43) = 2023 to 2111
Average for the remaining 11 games: (2023-1182)/11 to (2111-1182)/11 or 76.5 to 84.5
Season average: 92.0 to 96.0

Although the average for the remaining 11 games seems a bit low, last year he went 10/90.7 and 9/84.3 for a season total of 19/87.7

Forget about players' prices for now and just focus on what you think a player might potentially average for the remainder of the season, as those will be the only points that goes towards your overall score.

My advice is not to suddenly change what has served you so well for the first 11 rounds, just because you're now in contention for the overall prize. Don't let the occasion or circumstance get the better of your judgement, continue to play the long game as we're only half through this marathon. Every week from now on, your focus should be on how can I gain ground on those ahead of me by asking yourself the following questions:

* What trades are they likely to make?
* Which players are the 'flavour of the week' type?
* Who are my PODs against the leading pack, which ones are negative and which are positive?
* Select your VC/C wisely (think about trading in a FD to increase your options) - this is sometime underrated and could prove to be the difference
* Trades and DPP bench players are critical towards the later part as it gives your team greater manoeuvrability to cover injury and/or suspension

I actually plan to bring in a 'playing FD' during the byes to compliment my Uebergang FD! The FD is the thing that kickstarted my season.

You're absolutely right. I'm caught in two minds due to the position I find myself in, because I've never been anywhere near this before. I think I'm gonna try to ignore it as much as I can, and play my 'natural game'. Avoiding the flavour of the week picks has helped me so far, so I have to keep doing this. I think I'll complete a full analysis of my team next week (time is short this week :() using your questions as a guideline. I only really have 1/2 pods, but I'm hoping to pick 1 up soon that should work out well!

Below are a list of players who I believe have the potential to impact your chances...

DEF: Docherty, Rance, Boyd, Laird, JJ (when he returns from injury)
MID: Hannebery, Selwood, Neale, Rockliff, Sloane, R Gray
RUC: Goldstein
FWD: Deledio, Montagna, Hall, Zerrett

Note that I'm not implying you need to look at ALL of them, but just presenting a comprehensive listing so you can compare and make a sound judgement on who you should prioritise for your upgrade.

Whatever happens from hereon, you've done a stellar job and should be proud of your efforts as much as we're proud to have share in this journey with you. Don't try to 'over complicate' things and try to keep it simple, block out all the noise and just focus on what's needed to be done on a week to week basis. Most importantly, don't forget to have fun whilst working through this as you'll be amazed how helpful this is.

All the best mate and know that everyone here at SCS is behind you and cheering you on, as we are with other members who are still in contention.

From that list, I plan to bring in 5 (my POD is in that list, so maybe not as POD as I thought!)

Thankyou so much for that dude. It helps to bounce ideas off others, but also just be reminded to keep some perspective. I've still gotta get it done for half a season. Captain choices will define the season as much as any pick does.

I couldn't have done it without SCS, so I hope that my fortune continues!

I have read your linked thread before actually! It's such a good read. How did it feel towards the end when you were playing to preserve your lead?

POD Neale? Hes absolutely flying of late
I wish I could afford Neale! I actually considered him this round, as well as the past 2 but that would use all my cash and not suit my bye structure properly.

You'll be surprised...

If I think who that POD is you're thinking of, then I doubt many will be in a position to get him, but I would approach with some caution.

I would only analyse the 28 teams ahead of you now and 356 points behind after 11 rounds is absolutely achievable from hereon, how well you navigate through the upcoming bye rounds will have a major bearing on this.

Great work THLCT. Good for us following at home too.

I agree with THCLT in that Doch is probably not the right answer. IMO Doch is more likely to derail your season than win you the 50k. What a disaster it would be if you paid 580k for him to average less than Laird/Rance. Even if he matched them, you've wasted an extra $100k!

I think players such as Laird, Rance & JJ should replace AMT & Rich in your backline. Rich probably is a negative PoD in your backline, and the way you deal with him is quite crucial I think. So my answer to who out of Rance & Laird is BOTH! As Rance probably has the better short term draw, I'd jump on him first. Personally, I would look at sideways trading Rich around his byes, but if I recall correctly you're a bit keener to try push Rich to D7 and potentially trade out Adams over him. I think that's a good strategy too if you can trade Adams/AMT to Rance/Laird. (But you'd know I'm a bigger fan of holding Adams for D/F :p)

I think how you deal with Libba & Wells is also very key to your success. Not owning them would become a pretty big pod in the top 1k. I think Libba has to be traded if you want to win, because he's not looking like a top 10 mid. Wells is one that could go either way. I am currently thinking it might be more worthwhile jumping on a Deledio/Montagna type because they could go 110 instead of Wells' 100. With Well's history, he could also easily have an injury affected game which could cause havoc at the top. It could work the other way too in that Wells is the on worth keeping as the options around him either average less or miss games. Something I'm still tossing up in regards to my strategy too.

I changed my mind about Rich! I'm trading him. He's a bit ****. Keeps getting tagged.

I'm trading Libba soon, because I've identified he's not a top 10 mid, like you said. At this stage, I plan to keep Wells. I'm going Montagna soon. I feel the trade saved by keeping Wells is worth more than whoever id trade him too, especially if I can use that trade in round 23 if someone gets rested.

I like the idea of Rich to Laird in round 15. It gives me 3 games to look at him and work out whether he's back to his best.

Wells will decide supercoach to an extent. Those who have traded him are regretting it as of now, but maybe trading him at the right time will be the right decision. I like him because he has DPP. Potentially if a premium falls to the point you can downgrade from Wells to them, that could be an option.

I think Wells is good for a 95 average but might miss a game or two towards the end of the season. For a guy that cost less than $250k, that is pretty bloody good imo.

Rich is certainly a weakness - ZWilliams is worth a look if you are looking for someone a little cheaper than $500k+.

I think you're on the right track trading Rich! Keep Adams, his DPP coverage will save you later. Trust me! :p

Wells will provide a very interesting point of strategy for a lot of coaches. Should we keep or trade for a POD or push to F7? His form in the next 3 games will dictate what a lot of coaches do. If he continues at his current average of ~100 I suspect most coaches will hold.
You shouldn't discount the chance of an injury affected game. It's a real risk with him due to history, age and also factoring in his missed game with achilles soreness.
Definitely one that could go either way. I think if you trade him out, you'd really be gambling on him missing games through rests or injuries and Montagna/Deledio outscoring him.

Nah, I'm trading Adams unfortunately, unless something magical happens. He has too much cash not to use. I'll have 7 'luxury' trades, and 100k left in the bank at the end of the byes, so I think it's worth trading him.

I feel like if Wells misses after round 15, it's not too much of a problem. Sideways him to the in form forward.

I honestly think by watching wells play he's a premium. If he loses out by 3 ppg to a Deledio, then I think it's OK, as a trade isn't worth only 30. However, if he gets injured during a game, then I'm in strife. I honestly think I'll decide based on what others do, as I'd rather hold him than trade. Wells has done better than any of us could have imagined I feel!

Sensible strategy. You are in a very good position if you have 7 injury trades post byes.
The fact Wells has done better than expected is what has me feeling trading him out is a good strategic move! Maybe this is his peak and he could go downhill with a 90-95 avg from here or worse if he cops an injury. I know it's a speculative route but due to his popularity I think it's a good punt as no doubt most would hold.
