Preuss > Parsons via DPP
Matera > Bont via DPP

Will leave me with 264k in the warchest.

Team before trades:

Thoughts?
Look like really good trades to me Anfa....Matera experiment was probably a fail and needs rectifying before GC round 9 bye and you need to get Mccrae and Dahl up forward, tick and tick

Hey fellas! Been a while since I posted! I've been focussed on draft leagues the last couple of years or so, but still take a passing interest in my mediocre (10k ranked) salary cap side. After the curve balls thrown by team selection and injuries this week, I thought I'd check in to see how the pros are handling it all!

I was really hoping to double down this week, but I'm loathed to eat a Nank donut in the rucks. Problem is, all of the premo ruck targets either have high BE's or are underperforming (or both) so I'm unsure of who to take. I'm not convinced with Martin, Roos midfield is terrible and there's the looming spectre of Pruess counting against Goldy, Mummy will no doubt break down at some stage so that only really leaves Grundy who hasn't filled me with confidence either. Is Big Boy a smoky at $454k and a 3 round 114 average?? Will he be a top 2 or 3 ruck? Plus Grundy and Big Boy share a bye round with Sandi. Seems like a minefield any which way you look!

Cash generation is ridiculously tough because of the abysmal scoring power and job security of these rookies, so we're all trying to squeeze out every last cent. The Geelong boys in Parsons and Black look tempting but I'm worried that the VFL line up includes Kolodjashnij, Scooter, Menegola, Zac Smith, Ruggles, Stewart who all have a serious claims to a spot in the 22, especially the first 3 (chuck Linc McCarthy in with those 3 too). There is also Cowan, who the match committee seems to love for god knows what reason.

So basically I'm tossing up whether to eat a donut and bank some cash with a shaky rookie, or roll the dice on one of the rucks that all have serious concerns regarding value, scoring or durability.

I really think this is a make or break your season round and I'll be watching this thread with interest until at least 7:45 tomorrow!

EVW is probably not as important for you if you already got Williamson, so getting both Black and Parsons might work better for you. I hate a donut so I'll reluctantly pass up EVW for saving a donut if Cameron doesn't get named.
No Cameron. How are you going to avoid a donut? Soldo or a premo ruck? Hard to find a premo ruck to get excited about.

I have Nank in the rucks so I'm going Beams to Grundy to avoid the donut. I agree that he's hard to get excited about with Cox in the side, but he's the best of a bad bunch for me.

Will skip EVW for this week. Trading Roughead out to Goldy, Grundy or Jacobs to cover Nank's donut, and Houston to Parsons.

Figured if EVH rises by $40k this week and either Otten or Hampton were to be traded that I'd only miss out on $25k net by delaying EVH for one week.

Deciding to hold Beams, for 2 reasons - first, would lose a M/F link, second, Beams is still a potential M8 or M9, while Roughead seems 5-10 points off being a genuine F6.

Yeah fair enough, I'm not keen on Grundy with Cox in the side like you said. Think I'll go with Stef, reluctantly.

Big Boy has probably benefited from no Vickery over the past few weeks. Ceglar could come back later on to dent McEvoy's scoring again back to 80s.

Grundy at 513k is the only one I can live with. Cox hampering him by like 20-30 points a game (how does like 10 hitouts have such an impact!) but he's young, fit and hopefully ends up having a good stretch if Cox falls out of favour again. Fingers crossed on that.

What about Mummy? He has a nice draw coming up. Heart says yes, head says no just due to amount of games he misses. (Did play 21 last year though).

Yeah, good call re: vickery and ceglar bomber. Grundy appears to be the lesser of all evils I agree!

Long time no post. Good to hear from you.

I think eating a donut this round may not be the worst thing anyone could do at this point of the game. With the way the season has been transpiring, the potential for multiple donuts during rounds 11 and 13 could be very high. Bringing in a combination of Black/Parsons/EVW would seem prudent. It will not make or break your season. Wasting trades on covering donuts and/or poor rookie scores, and picking up poor cash cows, will break your season.

Black missed round 1, played one VFL game then was brought into the AFL team. Parsons got suspended for two games and was then brought straight back in. EVW did an extra apprenticeship at Werribee and looks composed down back in an improve North line up.

McEvoy has been spoken about, however there are concerns with Ceglar on the horizon. As a sole ruck he will score well.

Good luck, and may the fourth be with you. ;) :)

Game count since 2009 reading 18, 19, 17, 14, 19, 17, 11, 21 games partnered with Sandi does not fill me with confidence! Lol!

Good to hear from you too KLo! I agree that EVW is a solid option, so then it's Black, Parsons, or Grundy. Decisions, decisions..

He went off with an ankle concern just last week too. Just too risky for $600k.

Grundy at least should play 22 games (now watch him get a big bump and do an AC joint... )

1. Trade Beams for EVM and hold Hampton for 1 more round to get some more cash (Plays hampton on field)

Or

2. Trade Hampton for EVM to allow SPP/barrett loophole and the possibility of keeping beams next week in the case where Beams get back earlier than expected (Plays one of Balic/Berry/Barrett on field and loop one of the remaining 2 with SPP)?

Many pros and cons for both options.

Thoughts?

Haha i noticed you always type EVM but it's actually EVW. ;)

I'd probably prefer 2, although I'm trading out Beams myself.

You're just doing a downgrade so there's no real gain going Beams to a rookie and holding all that cash. May as well wait for one week for some more news on Beams and trade him out next week if need be for your planned upgrade. Although, Rowsus' point on BEs could be some consideration. I don't know that Hampton's going to go up by enough to make trading Beams out worthwhile.

OK as the self proclaimed President of the "I have Mumford in my team" club I thought I'd share some of my reasoning in bringing him in after Gawn went down four weeks ago.

Firstly I think he will have a good season, plus GWS will have a good season and thus he will benefit. Secondly I am so far behind everyone that I wanted a POD and considering everyone's immediate reaction is he is injury prone he would thus remain a POD.

So now for the elephant in the room, his injury record. I decided to only look at his GWS record, and ignorantly wipe his previous record away. He missed a block of games in 2014 and 2015, but significantly for mine they were a block of games, not random one or two weekers and in both seasons he also played in a block of consecutive games. In 2016 he only missed one game, against a weakened Essendon. Interestingly he even completed half a training session mid week before the game, so I think it was just as much of an opportunity to have a rest for a niggle.

Anyway my reasoning is that if he does get injured it's likely to be a long term thing so I'd trade him out. Sure the risk is high, but most ruckmen seem to have a greater risk of injury than other players. So I've jumped on the ride! I must admit it's fun watching him smash into other player!

Anyway I look forward to handing in my presidency when he goes down this week now that I've made this post!

I wanna be a president of a club so Leuenberger it is for me!..:p

Anyone considering Giles? Sole ruck by default and handy Rd 12 bye to upgrade to Stef.

Another is Longer who looks ahead of Hickey who's been named emg this week. 260k with a b/e of 28.

I share the concerns mentioned above with all the m premium rucks. No one is screaming 'pick me' at the moment so both these guys buy you some time until someone puts their hand up.

I feel crazy considering either of these guys after the Spencer debacle.

President of the Giles Ruck Club

Thanh relinquished the role.

Definitely up for grabs.
