Hi Rowsus,
Current team pre RD 16 trades:
Def: S Docherty, T Adams, R Laird, K Simpson, J Lloyd, S Burgoyne, (H Shaw, M Scharenberg)
Mid: P Dangerfield, S Pendlebury, G Ablett, J Kennedy, J Selwood, M Bontempelli, N Fyfe, M Priddis, (A Witherden, J Cousins, O Junker)
Ruck: J Witts, T Goldstein (L Strnadica)
Fwd: J Macrae, L Dahlhaus, L Franklin, T Lynch, J Steele, H Greenwood, (J Parsons, S Bolton)
Remaining trades: 5
Remaining salary: 60,300
Current rank: 34,005
With my remaining 5 trades I'm looking to bring in a F6 and a M9 thus moving Greenwood to the bench as cover for the mids and fwds.
Option 1: Bring in Nankervis as ruck cover in Rd17 and to be loopholed with Greenwood for the remainder of the season as the money saved should allow me trade Witherden for a mid premium between 500,000 to 600,000 if Darcy and Witherden make it to 250,000+ and will allow Priddis and Fyfe to be loopholed for the remainder of the season.
Option 2: Bring in E Yeo in RD17 but it requires Scharenberg and Bolton to both be downgraded in RD 16/17 allowing Parsons to be upgraded to E Yeo. It should allow a mid premium under 500,000 to be brought in if Witherden and Darcy both make it to around 300,000.
Option 3: Hold trades for the next 1-3 weeks allowing Scharenberg and Bolton to appreciate to around 250,000 and then use remaining trades to bring in a F6 and M9.
Which option would you recommend.
PS. (I not fussed about preserving trades as I'm too far back in overall ranks and leagues and I'm trying to assemble a team to have a go at the miniscule chance of winning the weekly thus why I'm keeping Shaw and looking to bring in another bench premium)
Hi Conn,
I think you if you are trying to build a team, that might win you a weekly prize, you are going about it all wrong, and thinking about it the wrong way.
There are are 9 Rounds left.
Would you prefer to be 1 of 50,000 people vying for that prize, in say 7 of those 9 Rounds, or 1 of 1,000 vying for that prize in 2 of them?
Your current team is way too Cookie-Cutterish to be vying for a weekly prize. Bringing in Yeo (40% ownership) or Nank (48%) is only going to make your team even more Cookie-Cutterish.
Let's look at the players you have, that could help you win that weekly prize.
Def: Simpson (8%), Burgoyne (2%)
Mid: Priddis (3%)
Ruck: Goldstein (10%)
Fwd: X
That's it, they are the only players you have, with less than 10% ownership. The only way a team that is largely built with popular players ever wins a weekly prize comes down to three things. Their POD/non-popular players performing out of their skin, or having most (ie say 19 of the 22) of all the highest scoring players (which doesn't mean they are necessarily popular!), or an absolute incredible amount of luck! All your other Prems are in so many other teams, that if they perform well for you, they perform well for 50,000-120,000 other teams. Currently, to be even considered a remote chance of a weekly prize, you'd 3 or 4 of your POD players listed above, to score 140+'s in the one game, and to nail one of them as a POD Captain pick, on a week where Dangerfield and the likely replacements (Pendlebury, Docherty etc) all fail to reach 100. Currently, it is like you have bought a ticket in a raffle with about 70,000 tickets sold, and they are going to draw 7 prizes over the following 9 weeks. I don't like those chances. There's not enough depth in your fringe players (D5/6, M6/7/8, R2, F5/6) to beat the better Cookie-Cutter teams than yours.
So what's the best course of action, if you really want to have a crack at a weekly prize from here?.
One word - separation!
You need to separate your team from the pack. Trade out some of those popular players, to less popular players, and separate your team from the masses. Now, some of these players are not popular for a reason, mainly being that they don't score high enough, frequently enough. But that's ok. What you are trying to do, is build a team that might be in the running for a weekly prize twice between now and the end of the season. Your current team is so similar to other teams, you are competing with 70,000+ teams, on the weeks the right players fire. Build some separation, and you might be competing with 3,000-4,000 teams on 2 of those 9 weeks.
What's better 7 tickets in a 70,000 ticket raffle, or 2 tickets in a 4,000 ticket raffle?
If I had your aim, I'd be looking to trade out players like: Fyfe (40%), Bont (39%), or Dahl (49%), that are highly owned, but under-performing. You want other people to have that type of player in their sides! I'd then be looking for players with known high ceilings, even if they hit them infrequently, that have less than 10% ownership. Players like: Fwds - Walters, Patton, Westhoff, Patton, Jenkins, Dixon, Cameron, NRoo (if we knew he was ok). Mids - Steven, Gray, Sidebottom, Cripps, Parker, Zorko.
You also need to be taking risky Captain picks, and hope the popular picks fail. You need the planets to align, but to completely honest, this attack is about the only way you'll have a chance at a weekly prize, with your current team.
Sorry if that sounds mean.
Good luck.
