Sloane and JPK not in there is also baffling.
where do you fit all these mids though, need to have some sort of balance, can't have 15 midfielders

I like RR, rover, c, 2 wings.................................Gray played forward predominately, Zorko forward/mid, Betts small forward.

think they should just pick 18 myself

people forget Jelwood was very good early in the season

And garbage late in the year. There wouldnbe a dozen blokes who deserved a spot more than Sloane, JPK or Selwood.

I actually think they got it right Danger, Dusty, Titch, Kelly and Merrett (even though he is not technically a wingman), can't fit them all in.

I remember years ago they had Pav at full-back.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a massive Selwood fan, my favourite non port player since Judd retired, but 2017 is one of his leaner years in memory. I'd have 2017 Mitch Duncan over Selwood just for starters and he'd be on the lower end of the spectrum.

I put together my team once they named the 40 and ended up with 19/22 that ended up getting named in the final squad.

The three differences I had were Howe in the backline instead of McGovern and on the bench I had Kruezer and Greene over Selwood and Shiel. I thought Kruezer had a superb year and deserved a spot in the team even with Ryder there too.

Yeah I just realised this morning that Sloane wasn't in there. Mind boggling.
I dunno - in almost a third of his games (6) he had less than 20 touches and was tagged to the point of being completely ineffective. Compared with the other mids there, that doesn't stack up for me and I think he rightly misses out.

2 nil loss.

Japan now the 4th team to qualify for Russia 2018.

Japan 20 points
Saudi Arabia 16 points GD + 6
Australia 16 points GD + 4

we need to thump Thailand and hope Saudi draw or lose.

FULL 2017 ALL-AUSTRALIAN TEAM

B: Michael Hibberd (Melb), Alex Rance (Rich), Jeremy McGovern (WCE)

HB: Rory Laird (Adel), Michael Hurley (Ess), Sam Docherty (Carl)

C: Josh Kelly (GWS), Dustin Martin (Rich), Zach Merrett (Ess)

HF: Robbie Gray (Port), Lance Franklin (Syd), Dayne Zorko (Bris)

F: Joe Daniher (Ess), Josh Kennedy (WCE), Eddie Betts (Adel)

FOLL: Paddy Ryder (Port), Patrick Dangerfield (Geel), Tom Mitchell (Haw)

I/C: Matt Crouch (Adel), Elliot Yeo (WCE) Joel Selwood (Geel), Dylan Shiel (GWS)

VICE-CAPTAIN: Josh Kennedy (WCE)

CAPTAIN: Alex Rance (Rich)

Shiel and Selwood pretty lucky I'd say. I'd actually rather Oliver over those two considering Oliver was quite consistent over the whole year - but he wasn't even in the squad!
I know one is not related to the other but seeing Gray and Zorko were listed as AA forwards, i guess there's a chance they'll be SC fwds next year. Gray will you'd think, not sure about Zorko.

I'm most happy for JD. I kinda feel like his year has generally been a little underrated so it's nice that he's received some recognition. He's gonna be an even more dominant force next year!

I have no idea how they pick their captains and vice captains but their choices seem quite odd. I reckon Kreuzer would feel pretty stiff missing out after such a huge year. I guess they take your team's performance into consideration.

Not much wrong with their choices I reckon. Selwood the odd one out, thought JPK looked good all year. Captaincy choices odd though, maybe they're just throwing a bone to a defender. Kruezer vs Jacobs vs Ryder line ball choice for mine, so can't really say they got it wrong as such. You're right though Kruezer a bit stiff to miss out.

Not too much disagreement there ... almost everyone seemed to pick the same four players, and quite a few voted identically.

Re Witherden. He is not Victorian and does not play for a Victorian based team. Means you are behind the 8 ball immediately.
