Fyfe is one of the best c options in the game (huge ceiling, reliable, lots of late games) and comes at a discount. There's a good enough chance he turns into a failed pick due to injury but waiting for that is a painful way to play the game. If you don't start him you are essentially committed to not getting him because he isn't likely to get much cheaper unless/until he gets an on-field injury. So you just watch the big c scores roll in for other teams and wonder why you don't have him and keep reminding yourself that you don't really hope he gets an injury. Painful. A no-brainer pick IMHO.

Or you don't pick him, he kills you for the first 10 weeks, you bite the bullet and get him in and then he misses 4 weeks with an obscure injury.

Blakely will be a defender RE Freako's twitter.

:padlock::padlock::padlock:

Also, Lloyd Meek will be a R/F, plays for Freo so will be a decent loophole option with so many Sunday games / being locked out at the same time as Fyfe.

Freako just tweeted that Blakely could be def/mid next year!!!
On paper he is a terrible pick. Never got near a full season, highest average 89, uncertain role, plays for Ross Lying.
But then on paper David Swallow, Rory Laird and Taylor Adams were all terrible picks!!!
I'll probably pick him because I can't help myself. Would a backline with Blakely, Milera and Francis be too speculative?

Blakely could be a great pick or a bust, he played well in a hot patch last year in the midfield before playing even better for 4 weeks in defence with stints in midfield. This year he was average as a defender but scored 113, 96 and 103 in his 3 games in midfield (I'm guessing these were midfield games because he had 4, 6 and 8 clearances compared to 0 every other week except week 1). He's also an injury risk. Probably too expensive for me without a strong body of evidence of his capacity to play in the middle. Milera was used in too many roles for me to get a sense of what he will produce.

So Francis is a chance? :)

Blakely will be approximately $ 472,898.21.

With Doc & Zac Attack locks , Andrews , Short & Witherden in the mix.

Roberton , Birchall , Hanley could be tempting.

Wonder if Whitfield will be D/M

Lance Franklin has had groin surgery and won’t train fully until January...…..“It was planned that rest would be the optimal form of recovery post-season for Lance, however it hasn’t healed at the rate we would have liked and surgery was determined as the best course of action,” new Swans head of football Charlie Gardiner said.

I like Preuss determination and attitude, but like he said, he has a long way to go.
If he is going to play in the same side as Gawn, he will need to be able to play another role on the field, hmmm, can he?
Various posters on Demonland seem keen to see how Preuss goes in the foreward line. Based on a bit of exposed form and ability to kick long goals this may be an option but it is hard to know whether it is viable ongoing. Time will tell, but I’ll be watching preseason comps closely to see how he goes.

N Fyfe:
Pre Bye Avg from 2011-2018 (excluding 2012 where he averaged less than 100): 116.05 from 81 (18/81 below 100, 36/81 120+)
Post Bye Avg from 2011-2018 (excluding 2012 where he averaged less than 100): 111.15 from 48 (15/48 below 100, 21/48 120+)

3 of the past 5 years he has averaged 120+ pre bye (2014-120 from 7, 2015-134.27 from 111, 2018-123.75 from 12)
In the past 3 years he has only played 12 games post bye with 29 pre bye.

He's one to start but he's not going to be doing full training til late December, just so you're aware. He had a small clean up on his knee.

Edit: He actually said
“There’ll be a balance, easing back in,” Fyfe said.
“I had a slight clean up on my knee, so I’m a bit later with my off-season preparations. I won’t be flying until after Christmas at least.
“This is my tenth pre-season. No records are going to be set by me in December, January, February.
“I really want to play 20 to 25 games of good footy next year. My focus is to train as much as I can and not be hitting straps until around that round one period and try to play the full year next year.”

That certainly makes me wonder whether I should start him

Plays against NM and GC in the first 2 rounds who he averages 137.11 from 9 and 140.33 from 6 respectively over his premium career (100+ avg years) with none of those 15 games under 100 and 12/15 120+. Plays StK in Rd 3 who are 1 of 2 teams he averages below 100 against and the next time he plays against a team he averages less than 110+ is RD9. Also 5 of his first 8 games at Optus Stadium where he averaged 117.88 from 8 in 2018 which increases to 128.57 from 7 if the injury affected 43 is excluded.

Been looking at a couple of left field selections for discussion. First up Jed Anderson

His 2018 is actually better than it looks. In rd 11 he got injured and spent most of the game on the bench scoring SC 6. Also got knocks in rd 17when he left the ground quarter 3, and had a head clash quarter 1 rd 18 and had a concussion test rd 19. So while his tog ave dropped from 2017 there were extenuating circumstances. His total tog minutes in 2018 was 1470. I took a stab and said he spent 15 min on the ground that game which would make is total tog for the season 1455. Take out the 6 from his total SC season score and it becomes 1663 which then translates into 1.14 pts per min. If he gets an increase in tog to say 80 min per game that puts him around 91pts per game. Then add on some improvement in d/eff, con poss and inside 50 and he could be over 100 per game.

Any Roos supporters have thoughts on the role Jed will play this year. Is he the improver?
