Been looking at a couple of left field selections for discussion. First up Jed Anderson

His 2018 is actually better than it looks. In rd 11 he got injured and spent most of the game on the bench scoring SC 6. Also got knocks in rd 17when he left the ground quarter 3, and had a head clash quarter 1 rd 18 and had a concussion test rd 19. So while his tog ave dropped from 2017 there were extenuating circumstances. His total tog minutes in 2018 was 1470. I took a stab and said he spent 15 min on the ground that game which would make is total tog for the season 1455. Take out the 6 from his total SC season score and it becomes 1663 which then translates into 1.14 pts per min. If he gets an increase in tog to say 80 min per game that puts him around 91pts per game. Then add on some improvement in d/eff, con poss and inside 50 and he could be over 100 per game.

Any Roos supporters have thoughts on the role Jed will play this year. Is he the improver?

Would stay away from Jed. Tyson and Hall will steal his mid time.

My guess is that he just misses out on DPP and gets defender only status. Do you have any sense of how Goldy might perform next year? Looks like a good option with no no.2 to really threaten him

Plays against NM and GC in the first 2 rounds who he averages 137.11 from 9 and 140.33 from 6 respectively over his premium career (100+ avg years) with none of those 15 games under 100 and 12/15 120+. Plays StK in Rd 3 who are 1 of 2 teams he averages below 100 against and the next time he plays against a team he averages less than 110+ is RD9. Also 5 of his first 8 games at Optus Stadium where he averaged 117.88 from 8 in 2018 which increases to 128.57 from 7 if the injury affected 43 is excluded.

Probably a solid option for a guaranteed 95-100 average over 21-22 games, if you don't want to go in want Grundy+Gawn. But I don't see any reason you'd pick him over Grundy+Gawn, unless they bizarrely decide to play Preuss round 1.

He is injury prone, he just had his best year at 27, rucks often don't back it up, and it sounds like he "wants" Preuss to play alongside him. He was playing injured by seasons end last year, so I will not start Gawn at such a big price, if I spend that kind of money it will be on Grundy and Titch.

Did Goldy play injured during Rds 3 to 8? Besides those games, he mainly scored over 100 pts.

This is shaping up as yet another season in which I want to start about 15 midfielders, but I can’t even find two rucks I’m happy with!

He is one of those glass half full/half empty players for mine. He does have a big ceiling and plays late games but I don't rank him as reliable. If you are going to go with him I think you are correct in that you need to start with him. He did well early this year but got inj at the end of the season when you can least afford trades. Even the year before that when he played 21 games he played inj a fair bit and between rds 6 and 15 only ave 88. When he is on point however then you get real benefit.

Yes I ummed and ahhed about calling him reliable because of course over a season he is unreliable, but if he is fit and well he rarely plays a bad game and is one of a few players you can put a C on with confidence.

Blakely and Whitfield both extremely appealing as D or D/M. Gonna be real hard to fit them all in down back, especially as it's usually where the good cheap rookies are.

Cheers mate, I reckon Dunkley should be a good pick and he should be a forward. FF has him listed as a forward for the 1st half of the year, so hopefully that's enough to get him in there. I've started to realise that a lot of FanFooty's info is a bit inaccurate though, they exaggerate some tags and forget to put down others, and sometimes give players the same description regardless of role if it's more subtle (i.e. someone just playing mid instead of the usual forward mid rotation gets listed as forward-mid). If Dunkley starts where he left off he's an amazing pick, a little bit of risk because it was only a 9 game hot patch and 6 game "massive" hot patch, but I feel he's worth it. He's another big-bodied midfielder along with Bont and Macrae who is able to dominate in the guts.

Got any thoughts on Taranto, Daniher? I'd also strongly consider Wingard if the hawks come out and say he's gonna be playing in the midfield
