There seems to be a real plethora of value defender premiums/potential premos for 2019. Might be the season to forego the super expensive backs at the start (Laird) and go with value in that line. Super expensive mids and rucks probably need the investment.
R Laird:
Avg at AO since 2015: 103.52 from 44 (21/44 below 100, 13/44 120+)
Avg at AO since 2017: 108.58 from 24
AO Wins Avg since 2015: 103 from 33 (16/33 below 10, 9/33 120+)
AO Losses Avg since 2015: 105.09 from 11 (5/11 below 100, 4/11 120+)
8/13 games pre bye at Adelaide Oval in 2019.

Wins Avg since 2015: 103.94 from 53 (24/53 below 100, 15/53 120+)
Losses Avg since 2015: 91.96 from 26 (18/26 below 100, 5/26 120+)

Pre Bye Avg since 2015: 102.95 from 41 (18/41 below 100, 13/41 120+)
Post Bye Avg since 2015: 96.51 from 39 (25/39 below 100, 7/39 120+)
2016 was the only season he has averaged more post bye than pre bye (2016- Pre Bye-95.75 from 8, Post bye- 97.78 from 9)
Since 2017 he has averaged 108.70 post bye from 23 games compared to an averaged of 98.37 from 19 post bye.

IMO wrong location, wrong coaching staff, and I suspect facilities that were not good enough. Never seen so many players get injured as at GC. And you know something is not right when a player (O'Meara) does not trust the medical staff at the club enough and goes to a Melb based club to get advice.
Gold Coast is just not a liveable city compared to all of the other cities that players play in. It's Australia's answer to Miami.

Laird is a gun, no question about it. His pre bye/post bye split also means it’s harder to see him being a great upgrade target, so this could be a tough one.

Last year he averaged 32 disposals as a defender, 4th in the league (after Mitchell, Macrae and M Crouch). I just wonder whether he’s allowed to get that much of it again in 2019?

It so is, I go to Miami each year for work and I’m constantly reminded of the Gold Coast.
I'm up at the Gold Coast atm.

7yo footy obsessed son says to me last night: "Everyone here must be so sad"
"why's that?" I ask.
"Because they lost their two captains and now their only good player is Two Metre Peter".

I've never liked the idea of trying to create a market. A license for a team should always be requested. I think Southport might have requested a license many years ago. Even though it doesn't have the name recognition of the Gold Coast at least they would have had an established club with the support of the local community.

Not alot of chat about Coniglio. Kelly Whitfield (if he plays mid) types likely to get more attention you'd think. 8 scores over 120. 2 scores 150+
Could really beast it next year. Does the tough stuff averaged bit over 5 tackles a game...

Jack Steele 7th for average tackles this year
Taranto 15th.
I like these guys if fwd.
Personaly think Steele is extremely close to seriously breaking out
I feel St Kilda just had an annus horribilis and they could provide some good picks next year. Brett Ratten as the new midfield coach might free up some of their mids and Simon Leathlean has talked about adding forwards like Kent and Young to allow others into the midfield. Steele, Billings and Gresham could be the ones to benefit. I don't expect Hanneberry to be a keeper again but he will be so cheap. Having the first bye is a bit of a bummer because he could be the perfect player to carry until the byes.

Steele averaged 111 over 9 games after STK's bye this year. About to turn 23 as well and tick over to 60 games soon. Definitely tracking for a breakout!

I can't see Steele getting forward.

I thought that Taranto would get DPP but I've rewatched some games and seen that he actually runs off the back of the square almost as much as he comes off the half forward flank, meaning he might only get mid only because he doesn't qualify for the 35% forward time. Most of the time he starts in the square or runs off a wing. I only watched a bunch of random centre bounces from games but didn't watch anywhere near enough to know for sure. I really hope he gets DPP though.

Some good points above re Steele.

Averaged 116 in his last 7 games, having only reached that level one prior to that spell.

Cherry picking a bit with the starting point, but I do like players who suddenly lift their scoring into (almost) uncharted territory ... rather than simply having a purple patch at a level they've matched before.

JOSH SMITH (WEST COAST ROOKIE)
Recruited from: Collingwood (age 24)
Estimated 2019 SuperCoach starting price: $222,750
2018 SuperCoach average: 74
Delisted Pie gets another chance at the premier. Smith played 18 games in his first season at Collingwood but just one last year. Likely to cop an elevated price tag which rules him out of SuperCoach plans.
Does this give us our 2019 pricing?
