I very much like. Can be flog and a butcher. Running a suspension (captain fly kick) and injury risk. I feel his points in team will still be worth it a for a couple suspension weeks. So if he is fit in Feb, he'll be in my team. I'm looking at the first 4 from that article in my team. Can't fill it with too much mid-price cool-aid.

you do realise 70% of the comp would be recovering from post season surgery ?

Do you put a cross through all of them , think Franklin had surgery last season and again this.

Need some value players to start , impossible to pick a starting side with all premiums over $ 550,000.00

Can’t remember this much mid-priced gold since Lenny Hayes and Michael Barlow came back from injury in the same year.

Obviously the key is separating the wheat from the chaff - and not going too heavy - but one thing I will say is that Danger’s forward eligibility probably allows us one extra midfield punt on a mid pricer...

Theres post season, September / October versus returning to training and requiring surgery in November / December

I like Daniher and Toby Greene and might start the pair of them at F3 and F4 instead of starting a premo at F3 and only running 3-0-6 there. It will depend on how they go for the rest of preseason but I feel like Daniher is only a stepping stone and Greene too much of a suspension/injury risk so it's probably a no. JJK is interesting and I'll consider him if he's going well in pre-season, but then T Lynch will only be 40K more....No way I'm having more than 1 KPP and I'd rather have zero. Hanners is cooked in my opinion and I don't think Libba will make enough money to be worth starting.

Thanks Toxic and Herbie66, I agree his latest injury surgery is a concern, but there is time for him to get back into fitness. 8 weeks training is enough to get back up and going, so if main group in early Feb I'm in.

The trouble with many mid-pricers is that they are good players returning from injury. The gamble is if they have recovered 100%, then they are a bargain, but if the injury is hampering their game, then they are duds. Inside medical information would be great, ay, but that will never happen, so we have to take a gamble :(

The AFL stars already in doubt for Round 1

……………….…..Joe Daniher (osteitis pubis) is still struggling for full fitness...………Tom Bellchambers, who underwent shoulder surgery, won’t take any part in training drills until the new year (Zac Clarke has joined Essendon as a rookie, hmmm)...…...….Toby Greene (foot surgery) remains in a moon boot..............Clayton Oliver (both shoulders),...........Tom Rockliff on track to play in the JLT Community Series........Rockliff underwent a second shoulder reconstruction at the end of the season...........Tom Lynch had his posterior cruciate ligament repaired in July and is on track to run before Christmas........Dan Hannebery, hasn’t missed a beat on the track this pre-season after enduring an injury plagued season at the Swans..........Josh Kennedy won’t return to full training until the new year after having shoulder surgery ........

Mid priced madness again mate? Interestingly I’ve ruled out all of those players at this stage. That’s not to say none of them will make the side, but at this stage with so little info they they sit in the “unlikely” basket.

Williams might get a look in as I think the overall quality of defenders has dropped significantly this season, though a dozen tons in 70 odd games doesn’t scream pick me. Granted half of those came in 2017 but he’s missed a lot of footy since then.

The others don’t present a great deal of upside IMO. I find picking players simply because their cheap is a pretty good way to handicap your side.

Greene, Kennedy and Daniher have obvious injury concerns, though I’d lean Kennedy if my hand was forced. Libba the same, plus role concerns with the way the Doggies midfield policy works. He’s really only produced one season worthy of a midfield spot and he’s had 2 knee recons since then. Hannebery is anyone’s guess, I won’t even pretend to know what sort of season he’ll produce this year.

Long way out still, I’d just be wary of pigeon holing yourself into so many questionable players this far out. Going to be a really interesting season, can’t wait to see how teams turn out round one.

hahaha you know me and how I select my teams too well (then wonder why after 2-4 weeks I am completely out of the running)

got all excited by these "cheap" prices, what happened to that guy's article who analysed a best team and recommended more mid price madness the better :), have to find room for 1 or 2 (or more) of them as the premiums are so expensive to start

tbh I won't really have much of a play until all the prices and positions are revealed, but Zac Attack will be in my side (looked good in the finals) and a fair chance Libba will be their (been training the house down and will get more midfield time, wait he is a midfielder)

I am waiting for Birchall and Hanley's price to be revealed as well :)

Nah seriously I think I will revert my way back to "cookie cutter" side this season and see how that goes, and follow Rowsus rules, pick your Rucks first, then the Rookies, then the rest of your team afterwards.

I am in cricket mode so will wait until February to start studying too much about the rookies, but yep waiting for the season to starts, beamer is "home" looking forward to the band being back together, pity we can't get Swaany out of retirement oh well.

Interesting year for your boys next season, will need to deliver or Kenny won't be their in 2020.

I have a idea, let me know your starting team and I will just follow that

Cheers and good luck

Bellchambers will still play in Round 1 barring another injury, I think he is training at the moment but not in full contact drills til January.

I know they might say that Hanners is up to scratch with training, meaning he is completing everything, but they don't tell you if he's as fit as he was in his prime, or how sore his body is, or how he is going mentally. Having watched him last year I can't trust that he's going to come back because he didn't just decline, he completely fell off as a player. The fact that Sydney pretty much tried to trade him and traded him cheaply tells me that something deeper is at work and wrong with him.

Yeo is someone I was keen on starting as a real deal pod but he's delayed til January now. I know that players can still have great seasons with delayed preseasons but when you're tossing up two players who are similar in value you're better off going for the guy with the full preseason. If it's a moderately serious surgery that's done in November then that signals a strong reason not to start the player, you'll find that these players tend to have worse seasons or starts, I can think of Parker in 2017 and Neale this year as recent clear examples. We all just saw what Crippa did with his first full preseason behind him, showing us the importance of a player getting a full preseason. Fyfe and Kelly are two players who are good enough to get behind without full preseasons, but it's the line-ball calls I reckon we should avoid. Doing some research on players with shoulder reconstructions I found some decline in scoring the next season, Oliver could be an exception but I would hesitate to start him.
