I think generally you're going to need more than that..or at least the flexibility to include a few 140-220k types. Dunkley is high on my wishlist as well but like yourself it seems, will be the first to go if funds are needed.

No Devon is interesting.
It will depend on who the rookies are, I don't think I'll have more than two over 140k though, this year I had two over 140k and one of them was a mistake. Only Stephenson was really worth having amongst the expensive ones I didn't have. Mature age players tend to be better cash cows but I also realise you need players with Job Security, so ideally you should try to find a balance. If I need one more expensive rookie I'll turn Dunkley into someone a fair bit cheaper. Walsh, Rankine and Clark are the 1st rounders who have caught my eye at this stage. Clark won't be that expensive, Walsh seems like a lock but I don't really trust Gold Coast. By picking cheaper rookies you also get a bigger return on investment % even with the same amount of cash generation. There seems to be a lot of mature aged players to pick from this year, especially in the forward line. Time will reveal a lot more.

I think Devon might be the first to lose some points to Shiel and improvements from our younger players, he's also going to have a delayed preseason so I'm a bit hesitant. I hope he proves me wrong and he can definitely go even better.

Yeah i share a similar view when it comes to spending cash on rookies and usually only start top enders when they're absolute musts. I didn't pay for any of the expensive popular ones last year (Brayshaw, Naughton etc) and it didn't hurt me too badly i don't think but I always like to set my team up with a few in as place holders just in case. Doesn't really matter if you've got an easy cash generator like Dunkley is though so accommodating the more expensive guys won't cause you to restructure as such.

All things going well we'll get those mature aged guys you mentioned but if not, i think we'll be leaning on GC for rookies. Collins, Corbett and Ballard are a few others i'll have my eye on.

Didn't hear that about Devon, will keep that in mind. I wouldn't worry about Shiel stealing points from him, we'll be getting a bigger piece of the pie next year anyway :D

With the Docherty news, does Nic Newman now become relevant
I think so. Any idea on his price next year. He should slot straight in to Dochertys role you'd think. Not alot of history to base anything solid on but he scored pretty well in his rookie year.
A definant watch. Can't see him missing many games if fit

SuperCoach: The top five most expensive players at each position

Every SuperCoach loves a good premo who produces.
But there are plenty of high-priced stars who have broken the bank and failed to deliver.
Most expensive defenders
Player Team 2018 average 2019 starting price
Jake Lloyd Sydney 112.1 $608,200
Rory Laird Adelaide 102.2 $587,600
James Sicily Hawthorn 105.1 $570,400
Kade Simpson Carlton 105.1 $570,300
Lachie Whitfield GWS 99.9 $542,100
With 2018 defensive studs Elliot Yeo and Tom McDonald losing their dual position status and the shattering news that Blue Sam Docherty has gone down with another ACL injury, the hunt for a premo in your SuperCoach backline has become even tougher. Swan Jake Lloyd deserves his top billing after playing every game last season and averaging almost four more points than the next best defender — Crow Rory Laird, who is the second most expensive.
James Sicily had his injury and suspension issues, but had eight tons in 14 games, while the ageing, but effective Kade Simpson again becomes the top dog defensively at the Blues. Lachie Whitfield could be poised for a breakout year after switching from the midfield to defence — he had six tons in a row from Round 16-21 last season.
Most expensive midfielders
Player Team 2018 average 2019 starting price
Tom Mitchell Hawthorn 129.1 $700,800
Jack Macrae Western Bulldogs 127.1 $689,700
Patrick Cripps Carlton 119.4 $648,200
Clayton Oliver Melbourne 114.7 $622,700
Nat Fyfe Fremantle 113.9 $618,100
All five of the most expensive midfielders in 2019 have been slapped with big premiums on their 2018 closing prices. Brownlow Medallist Mitchell — who owned the second-highest average in SuperCoach — is almost $70,000 more expensive than his closing price of $633,800.
Dog Jack Macrae ended as one of the bargain buys of 2018 cracking the ton in 16 of 19 games — 10 of those over 130 including a mammoth 189 — but he begins 2019 more than $100,000 more expensive than last season’s starting price. Cripps, Oliver and Fyfe were all priced under $600,000 at the end of last season.
Most expensive rucks
Player Team 2018 average 2019 starting price
Brodie Grundy Collingwood 130.5 $708,200
Max Gawn Melbourne 127.5 $692,100
Stefan Martin Brisbane 105.7 $573,700
Ben McEvoy Hawthorn 101.9 $553,100
Todd Goldstein North Melbourne 100.1 $548,000

We’ve covered the near $1.5 million it would cost to roll out a ruck duo of Brodie Grundy and Max Gawn here and, while Martin, McEvoy and Goldstein are all productive, the buck stops with the pair at the top. You either fork out for both or buy one or the other and search for a cheaper option who could produce. Buying Max Gawn and then adding Goldstein instead of Grundy will save you more than $160,000.
Most expensive forwards
Player Team 2018 average 2019 starting price
Patrick Dangerfield (fwd/mid) Geelong 121.7 $660,500
Tom Hawkins Geelong 101.9 $552,900
Justin Westhoff (fwd/ruck) Port Adelaide 101.2 $549,400
Lance Franklin Sydney 100.1 $543,500
Sam Menegola Geelong 100.1 $543,100
A forward designation for Patrick Dangerfield might just be SuperCoach’s greatest gift. The Geelong superstar’s average of 121.7 last season actually dropped from his stunning 136.4 in 2017, but that was still good enough for fifth overall in SuperCoach and a whopping 6.6 points per game better than the best forward in Sicily — who has lost his dual position status in 2019. Set him and forget him. Dangerfield’s Geelong teammate, the Tomahawk, is coming off his best SuperCoach season ever, cracking the ton average for the first time in his 12 seasons. Port utility Justin Westhoff, too, exceeded the ton average for the first time in his career and is just about a must-have, given he can ruck during the bye rounds. It was the year of the ton last year, as Sydney superstar Lance Franklin also raised the bat for a triple-digit average for the first time since 2012. But he always has a lull and it might be an idea to wait for his price to drop before adding him to your team from Round 1. A third Geelong player rounds out the top five in Sam Menegola, who should again find a heap of minutes in the midfield and be productive.

depends on who played Docherty's position last season ?

Newman should be approximately $ 395,000.00

Will be very interesting to see how Newman performs.

2017 and 2018 SC Avg when disposals equal/exceed 20: 97.42 from 12 (low of 80 and a high of 151, 8/12 below 100)
2017 and 2018 SC Avg when disposals below 20: 65.31 from 16 (low of 24 and a high of 90, 12/16 below 80)

Could we see Tom Williamson come back into the Blues lineup if fit? Was pretty decent in his first year from memory playing across halfback.

Missed the whole of last year, and no idea of his possible price but may be worth a watch.

He averaged 49 in 2017 (I actually had him on field a couple of times), you surely wouldn't pick him
Not at this stage , would be looking at rookies < $ 125,000.00 ideally.

at this stage hoping for Hore , McLennan & Wigg.

Was hoping Sam Collins would be cheaper , but he is $ 188,900.00.

Rozee $ 184,800.00
Quaynor $ 148,800.00
Clark $ 139,800.00
Duursma $ 126,300.00

* estimates only

Need to wait for prices and positions to be confirmed before we have a clearer picture.

Carlton
how does that work ?????

unless he gets a $ 100,000.00 discount for joining Carlton.

Played 10 games last year for a 72.60 average.

Can't work that one out.
No idea, I had him at around $400k but that's what the Herald Sun article has him priced at:

NIC NEWMAN (CARL) $294,100 DEF
After leaving the Swans during the trade period, Nic Newman is going to see a lot more action at the Blues. He played just 10 games in 2018 but with Carlton’s youth push and Sam Docherty’s injury, he will be a walk-up start in the club’s best 22. Across two years, Newman has four scores above 100 and one score above 150.

At that price he's a bargain.

EDIT: They've updated his price $394,100

Would have to be a typo surely. 394k seems about right.

Still very much worth a look at 400k I reckon. Will step straight into Docs role I’d imagine and there will still be plenty of ball in the Blues defensive half this season.

AFL SuperCoach 2019: Which players can you snap up at a discount for 2019?

Bargain alert!
They’re the players that can set up your SuperCoach season — and are often the first picked when the time comes for coaches to start locking in their squads.
With the release of player prices for 2019 SuperCoach this week, coaches will quickly scour through the list of potential bargains for next season.
Be it a player on the comeback trail from injury, an emerging talent not yet fully tried at the top level or one simply ready for a breakout year, the bargain buys are a key component of any wannabe SuperCoach premier.
It’s early, and there’s still a lot of pre-season to go, but we’ve highlighted some key players we think will be in hot demand when Team Picker launches this week.
Will Setterfield (Carl) $144,900 mid/fwd
The No. 5 pick in the 2016 national draft forced his way into GWS’s all-star midfield in 2017 before a knee injury sidelined him this year. Has had his share of injuries in his short career but teams up with fitness guru Andrew Russell and, alongside fellow young mids Patrick Cripps and Sam Walsh, could see plenty of game time. Cheap as chips and dual-position status is an added bonus.
Joe Daniher (Ess) $277,800 fwd
Remember this guy? Yep, he’ll be back on the park next year after a groin issue ruined his 2018. The Bombers are expected to be a big improver next season, and Daniher could be the chief beneficiary of new addition Dylan Shiel. If he stays fit he should kick a minimum of 50 goals, so it’s hard to go past him at the price.
Toby Greene (GWS) $354,600 fwd
This one comes with a warning. Greene might not be all fans’ cup of tea but he is a classy player and can be the difference between a W or an L for GWS. The big concern is that the ankle and foot injuries that plagued his 2018 aren’t yet in the rearview mirror, the Giants star recently having further surgery. Big watch on his summer and pre-season before locking him in.
Tom Liberatore (WB) $300,400 mid
The Bulldogs wanted ‘Libba’ back in tip-top shape and they’ve got it. The Bulldog’s form has yo-yoed during his time at Whitten Oval and just when he seemed set to hit back from a subdued 2017, a knee injury ended his season in Round 1 this year. We all know he wins more than his share of contested footy and he’ll tackle all day, so he’ll more than pay his way and could prove the ultimate cash cow.
Dan Hannebery (StK) $326,100 (mid)
St Kilda trumpeted his arrival and the former Swan has stripped noticeably leaner upon landing at the Saints. We know he’s set to play a key role in Alan Richardson’s midfield rotation, provided his body can hold up. Yes, there’s question marks on whether Hannebery can get close to his best footy again, but looks primed to complement thousands of SuperCoaches midfields below the blue-chip stars.
Aaron Hall (NM) $389,200 mid
Forget his 2018, which was ruined by injuries (and by being at the Gold Coast). Aaron Hall is capable of posting some massive numbers. In 2016 and 2017 he averaged in the 90s, across a combined 36 games. That is some solid consistency. But at just a tick under $400K, is that price a little too high? Hall has played a full season just once in his seven years at the top level. That is reason for concern.
Jack Viney (Melb) $449,500 mid
When it comes to Jack Viney, one thing is for sure. He leaves everything out on the field. Despite battling injuries all throughout last year, Viney hit the finals like a bull at a gate and was one of the driving forces behind Melbourne’s stunning run. He also broke the 100-point barrier four times in his seven home and away games. With his injury worries gone, there is every reason to think Viney could post a triple figure average in 2019.
Josh Kennedy (WC) $397,800 fwd
Timing is everything in footy. Just ask Josh Kennedy, who timed his return from persistent leg injuries to perfection last season to play in a premiership. It did hurt his SuperCoach scoring though, with his 73.3 average his lowest number since 2012. After averaging in the 90s in 2015, 16 and 17 — a fully fit Kennedy will be one to look at closely next year.
Jack Scrimshaw (Haw) $149,800 def
Things didn’t work out for Jack Scrimshaw on the Gold Coast. But there is no doubt this kid can play. Just two years ago he was taken with the No. 7 pick in the draft. Get him in the Hawthorn system and let him learn from Clarko and there is no doubt his price could skyrocket.
Nic Newman (Carl) $394,100 def
After leaving the Swans during the trade period, Nic Newman is going to see a lot more action at the Blues. He played just 10 games in 2018 but with Carlton’s youth push and Sam Docherty’s injury, he will be a walk-up start in the club’s best 22. Across two years, Newman has four scores above 100 and one score above 150.
