Useful breakdown, thanks for that. Worked well as a team :)

My thoughts now are that Westhoff just had a better role last year where (1) he got more ruck time consistently (ie: probably about 15% ish even when Ryder played) and (2) probably played around stoppages even when he wasn't in the RCs.

The thing to keep an eye out on is if he continues to get that consistent time in the rucks to give Ryder a rest. It might be the case that Port developed that ruck strategy last year to protect Ryder due to his achilles issue and that Ryder is now fit enough to shoulder more of a load. The HO win% suggests that Port benefit more from Ryder spending more time in the ruck so you'd think that if Ryder is fit enough, he would take the bulk of the ruck time.

The second part is to consider if Westhoff will continue to get the roaming role that puts him around stoppages alongside the ruck/mids. It's possible that he does with Lycett/Dixon playing more of a forward role. If he got that role, I think you could be more comfortable with him averaging 95.
I think you're probably right about Westhoff rucking more as a result of Ryder's injury issues. I'm now less concerned about whether Westhoff maintains that, given it doesn't seem to have affected his scores this year. I think the roaming role might be the key, and hopefully Lycett, Dixon etc are playing more forward to help ensure that. With a bit of luck all the key players will be fit in the JLT and we'll get a relatively clean read.

You hit the nail on the head. He plays this roaming role where he can go back forward mids wherever the coach needs him. His such an unique player. His scoring was fairly consistent last year. I won’t be personally starting with him but his definitely on my radar for an early trade in option.

Yeah, I think he’s a must as a trade in at some point in the season. Would be handy if he can avg 90-95 so he could be an F6 rather than a bench option.

Grundy definitely overpriced, but the alternatives just don't seem appealing at the moment. I think the best value combo is clearly Goldy and Kruezer but surely you'll need to trade one or both to Grundy and Gawn eventually if they both end up scoring about 10-20ppg more than those two?

If Longer looks reliable, he's still my preferred option as an R2 cash cow. Mummy in R5 offers a bail out if needed. . Otherwise, I'm thinking Grundy and Kreuzer at this stage with the aim to trade Krezuer to Gawn if needed down the track.

Gawn is unlikely for me unless Preuss gets injured or there's a strong indication that Preuss plays VFL (which I don't see as a likely scenario seeing as he would've gone over for more senior football opportunities).
Like this combo mate. This is a what I have currently. Saving money at R2 to help with better structure elsewhere is my main reason. Having back up for Krooze is the big question . Grundy at R1 is set without question.

Interesting with Nank, even though he's a young ruckman trending upwards I wonder whether he has the raw athleticism to get those hitout numbers up.

Are you still liking Longer? The more I think about him, the more I like him.
Surely he would be the Saint's solo ruckman??? He's fit now because he had his ankle surgery last July, 26yo in May, played 65 games and has scored as high as 125 pts in 2017.

Yep he's likely to be the Saints number 1 ruck. I don't think that will be to much of an issue. The problem I have with choosing him, is up until now he's really only shown himself to be a pretty ordinary ruckmen at best. An ordinary player, in a very ordinary side, just ain't what I'd be looking for

I might start a Nank/Westhoff type combo. Move Westhoff Fwd if Gawn-Grundy look the goods and fall within range. Pick some other guns elsewhere.

Longer is only $260,900 and he can score over 100+ pts. I'm thinking he could confidently make some money quickly for an upgrade to whoever is the firing Ruckman in 2019.

Good chance Marshall pushes past him for the top spot too. Longer just a pretty ordinary player like you said. I’d have no confidence in picking him.

Pierce and Marshall don't appear to be ready, yet, to take the number one ruck spot. They might later in the year, in which time, Longer should make enough profit as a Cash Cow to upgrade him.

Rucks ready to rumble
St Kilda’s ruck stocks have been bolstered by the re-signing of Billy Longer and Lewis Pierce, who have both inked one-year deals.
Saints Head of List Management James Gallagher said the pair were determined to make their mark in 2019...……..“We think this is the perfect opportunity for both guys to take their game to a new level and press their case for the number one ruck spot.

“Rowan Marshall also showed a lot of promise last year playing as both a forward and a ruck, so we think we’ve got a bit of flexibility there.”

Think Marshall will be the relief ruckman for them, he'll spend most of his time FWD and give Longer chop outs.

Josh Battle to move to half back and play a Sicily type role allowing Marshall to keep that tall forward spot alongside the likes of McCartin, Bruce, Membrey like he did late in the year when he and Pierce were sharing the ruck duties.

What do you mean by 'chop outs;?

Would Battle be SC relevant in that case?

$232k forward.

My SC style isn't to take risks on blokes like that at that price, but that's just the way I have traditionally setup my sides in the past and I'll probably stick to something similar again.

However, I've been a big fan of Battle for a while even though he hasn't played very many games. Picked him in my Keepers League last year and prior to his season being ended by concussion issues he was looking awfully good as a forward, and a decent SC scorer. Was stoked to hear he'll play the Sicily type role, and be let loose to intercept mark, use his tank to push up the ground, and when needed to roam forward and kick a goal.

A 232K forward is certainly not safe to select. Is that the only reason you are not selecting Battle, just because of his price? Or have you other reservations? You paint a good picture of him, a masterpiece :)
If he is a good SC scorer, he could make enough money to justify being a CC and score well enough to play in a team's starting 22. Some forward pocket Rookies that I am considering are not going to score well if starting in the 22.
