Carlton’s odd couple Sam Walsh and Michael Gibbons could be part of a new-look midfield by Round 1 after flawless pre-seasons for the injury-hit Blues.

No.1 draft pick with his flawless pre-season, winning a series of recent one-lap time trials around Ikon Park.

Gibbons is certain to be a Carlton player by March 15, impressing Bolton in match simulation as he auditions for one of three vacant spots on the Blues list.

will be interesting to see what price they make gibbons
So Carlton struggles to find a best 22 even within their current list.
I'm struggling to understand the Gibbons thing. Why would he be a lock for round 1 when no team wanted to draft him?

Yeah I'm not sure either, my guess is he's been training with a few others to fill a spot due to Doc's LTI - I think now clubs can bring in a rookie by a certain date to cover LTI's. I expect he'll be listed at $102k if he's rookie listed so that'll be nice.

Sorry, I wasn't referring to the rules. My post was a reference to why would such a good player be overlooked by everyone.

Moore at $240k could be kinda interesting. DEF/FWD so could work with Burgess in some scenarios.

Wonder if they’re planning to use him as a forward or back.
Been playing in defence and possibly taking kick outs at training from what i’ve read
I expect Moore to take the oppositions No1 Fwd until Dunn comes back.

There were some knocks on his kicking but I guess if you get it 40 times one of them has to hit doesn't it? Worked wonders for Dane Swan all those years. Not a big body either, just 175cm and a tad over 70 kegs I think. Caleb Daniel is around the same list ed weight I think and 7cm shorter.

Short.
Not fast.
Not really a goal kicker.
1 dimensional.

Good news for Gibbo is that he's finally gonna get a chance, and it's at a team that isn't flush with senior talent for the position he excels in. It's Cripps, Curnow, daylight, then a bunch of young kids who will probably end up overtaking him, but that won't be in 2019.

Doesn't fit the new mould of teams trying to turn athletes into footballers.
Just a really good, honest footballer.

Has won literally everything there is to win in the VFL as a midfielder.

I've heard they want to use Gibbons up forward (he won the JJ Liston up fwd for Williamstown) but can swing through the middle, Stocker is a bit behind in fitness
Thanks for the insight

I wonder if they rotate them through 3-4 game blocks , so they get used to the AFL.

Might be a trap for $$$ generation.

………..Lyon was also hopeful Harley Bennell could overcome his horror run of soft-tissue injuries that have kept him to just two games in three seasons at Fremantle.
The number two draft pick suffered calf tightness at training last week but had otherwise enjoyed his best pre-season in years.
"He's on a program where we're building him up to three sessions a week," Lyon said.

"As he said, he's done more this year than he's done in four years – his body has allowed him to.
"He still hasn't been able to do the exact level of work of Andrew (Brayshaw) or Nat Fyfe, but he's not far off.
"I wasn't at a session on a Friday and Peter Bell rang me and they were all raving about how he trained. So it was exciting for Harley and us, but there's plenty of work to go."

geez I hope he gets himself right and on the paddock for Round 1 , half the price of Miles/Hanneberry/Libba and more than capable of matching there scores

Those 3, Miles/Hanneberry/Libba, all have 'ifs', so might as well gamble on a lower priced 'if', ay.
