as in why do the new rules benefit gaff like wingers
Ah get you, the free space he will have just him and his opponent out there and a ton of space, he's an endurance beast and will run opponents ragged. Plus he has extra motivation missing a Premiership. Seen a lot of him over the summer at training and he's been very impressive.

G'day mate , 3 more weeks of celebrating to go

How is Yeo and his toe ? Does Petrucelle get first crack at The Frenchman's position.

Thoughts on Smith , Watson and the ruck setup (Hickey & Vardy first crack)

Cheers

Cheap stats for non-accountable defenders might be gone ... is what I'm seeing thus far ... only 2 games in but the seagulls might be in trouble this year ...

I agree. The stoppage beasts should still score ok but I think the balance will shift a bit.

If he is going one on one against another winger wouldn't that somewhat negate his running advantage? Most wingers are the time trial kings - Sidebottom, Phillips, Smith, Hill, Whitfield etc so he would need to be more accountable than if a tagger was on him.
He would be in the mix for me if he didn't have the suspension but not sure the new rules assist him?

Gee Darling is looking strong and fit, that F4 spot might be his to lose
He has hands down been the best player at Eagles training all summer, been so impressed with the way he has looked especially in match simulation stuff. No reason to think he won't display that fantastic form from the first half of last season before his injury.

I'm still trying to work out this "extra free space" equation.

To me with the play on from behinds rule logic says the field actually got 15m shorter ... and probably faces more congestion as teams look to block up the wings as the most obvious kick in destinations .... taking a shorter pin point option and opening up the corridor is what I'd be seriously looking at ...

I tend to agree. If anywhere is to open up it is just from the initial bounce in the centre. It may be a bit more one on one on the wings but if there is space in the middle it doesn't seem worthwhile going wide if you can get it in to the forward line so quickly.
I really dont think the 6-6-6 will change too much other than some quicker goals.

Yeah mate, its been a great off-season for us Eagles fans, not so much for your guys, but I know that feeling you have from losing 2015.

Yeo has ramped up his training in the last few weeks, played a fair chunk of the infra club match last week and playing a bit today, so I don't expect it to have any impact on the regular season.

Petrucelle would by my choice after his summer, especially with Cripps likely to miss the start of the season. Once Cripps is back though it might come down to current form but I think at this stage he starts round 1.

Watson another big improver, glad to see him get a shot in this strong JLT team but not sure their is a spot for him with Shepard coming back into the premiership team. Should get opportunities during the year though.

Smith another who has done nothing wrong over the summer but it's not easy to break into a Premiership team with only 1 or 2 spots up for grabs. Was brought over pretty much as a top up player to add experience to our new WAFL team, so his excellent summer has beeen a real bonus and should crack a few games if injuries happen.

Expect us once again to run with 2 rucks and Bardy and Hickey will be the two. Latest on Nic Nat is he's aiming for about round 10ish for his return.
