Bit of a shame Gibbo has got the small forward role.
Would of backed him in every week at M8 in the guts, but I'm not gonna pass up a 102k rookie, he'll just have to sit at M11 instead.
I wonder if Carlton are actually happy to use him in that role when the season starts and what his JS would be, would Fasolo come back and take his spot? Not sure I like it

Where did you source these from Presto? I can't find them published anywhere. They look like MoneyBall fantasy scores.
You are right, my mistake, I should have checked better fan footy, I deleted my post :poop::poop::poop:

Merrett was taking it very easy and only played 36% game time, I suspect he will do more in JLT2 but he doesn't look to be moving at 100% yet, which should be a requirement for picking him. I expect him to be a really good pick at a cheaper price when he gets his fitness back at about round 7 or 8 or so.
Yep, hopefully a nice cheap early upgrade. Not moving well at all and he actually looked a bit overweight to me, probably all tied in to the ankle.

Just curious .. who makes way out of the midfield for him .....

I thought news limited might have published them somewhere first before the Herald Sun or Fox Sports. It would be nice if we could get them quicker, or even live. :)

Looked the same to me, he put on about 3kg of muscle between 2017 and 2018 and I was hoping he'd actually lose some of that because he'd lost some of his zip in the process. Essendon haven't updated their players weights on their website since the start of 2017, Merrett looked noticeably bigger in the JLT of 2018 and I kept checking to see an update but it never came. Champion Data must receive the clubs more recent information because they list him at 83kg in the 2019 prospectus, 3 kilos heavier than he is on our website and 3 kilos heavier than in the 2018 prospectus.

What I got for that game -

No to Zerrett
Lock in Walsh, Setters and Cripps
Newman - into consideration, his TOG was up 14% on last year and looks to be playing the Doch role. Im not sure whether to be concerned if Williamson takes his spot, anyone think he'll stay best 22?
McGrath - Wasnt ever going to pick him but not the worst selection.

I’m not even sure if Gibbons will play round 1 despite kicking 3. They didn’t seem to want him playing in the middle.
If they're trialing him as a small forward and he continues to perform reasonably well I think he will. Fasolo's coming back from a fractured arm, Pickett's injured, Garlett hasn't shown much and Polson just isn't a good footballer. JS might be a bit shaky though.

Big call, he won't be in my side.
It's a trap!

Don’t you love JLT? Players who you hadn’t considered up until this point suddenly end up in your side :p

Newman certainly has the Tuohy 2017 feel about him

Loving AFLratings this preseason

Carlton 100 v Essendon 91
Ikon Park, February 28

Carlton had an overwhelming number of Inside 50s early in the first half, Essendon scored a number of Goals over the back of the Carlton defensive structure.

Article by @aflratingsPete

Player Notes (Not all players covered)

Patrick Cripps
Was extremely dominant finishing with a game high 20 Contested Possessions, had his knee strapped but that is now a trade mark for Crippa. Looked great!

Sam Walsh
What a jet, found time & space inside traffic, was clean with his ball handling, recorded 28 Disposals.

Nic Newman
Found a perfect scoring role in defence, recorded 17 Disposals in the opening 3 QTRS.

Zac Fisher
Worked hard & found a heap of the ball finishing with 26 Disposals .

Will Setterfield
Settled in nicely for the Blues, scored at a high rate, automatic Round 1 selection.

Sam Petrovski-Seton
Fast start by SPS but similar to last week slowed down late in the game, copped a knock midway through the game which may have impacted.

Michael Gibbons
Kicked 3 Goals as a small Forward, may have been a slow grind if he didn’t hit the scoreboard finishing with 9 Disposals.

Kade Simpson
Played 87% game time to finish with 14 Disposals, the Nic Newman role likely impacted.

? JLT Series 1 Injuries

Andrew McGrath
Exploded late in the game winning the ball with ease, was able to get to contest after contest while others laboured in the heat. Very impressive!

Zac Clarke
Outstanding game in the Ruck, Bombers looked more dynamic in the middle of the ground with Clarke, definitely something to consider for Worsfold.

Dylan Shiel
Started to score well then copped a leg cork early in Q4 & didn’t return.

David Zaharakis
Slow day for Zaharakis finishing with 18 Disposals from 86% game time.

Dyson Heppell
Played the 1st half only, looked solid.

Devon Smith
Showed no impact from a recent bicep injury, played the 2nd half only, recorded 12 Disposals & 2 Tackles

Zach Merrett
Was quiet finishing with 7 Disposals, played in the first half only.

Can't wait for his ownership to reach 20%...
If Newman goes on to average 90 I wouldn't consider it a fail... am I not expecting enough from a mid pricer? You either keep him for 90 or you take the price gain to turn him over to a fallen premium?

That said, I think his likely average is higher given he hasn't been played in his best position for year due to being up against McVeigh.

I will admit a bit of bias towards Newman as I have had him in a keeper league for the last 5 years

I don't have an opinion either way just yet, more so because it's JLT1. However, I do lean towards him being a good pick than bad.

I still am slightly skeptical of his ability to play each week. I might be silly, but I feel like his scores don't always reflect his contribution to the team...

Tuohy was OK but not a game changing pick. I wonder if Newman was given more of Simpson’s usual role, cos Simpson had a down game. I didn’t watch the game though and am just relying on the observation on AFLratings
