Anyone going to be starting more than 1 or 2 of Ridely, Roberton, Moore, Cousins, Walsh, LDU, Rozee?

The more i look at the rookies, the more i'm tempted to get 3 or 4 of these blokes and just hope for the best.
Might go for 4

Ridley , Walsh , Moore & Rozee and strap myself in for the ride ?

Well the mid pricers are fallen premium 407k and 412k so I still consider it GnR
Sorry no that doesn’t cut it :)

Otherwise why aren’t Rocky Billings and Libba “guns” in a GnR?

Williams has never gone above 94 he’s the prototype mid priced selection. And I have him too.

Strict GnR means no player price starts with a 2, 3 or 4 I thought

Haha well I don’t think anyone has ever started with an actual full guns n rookies then unless it’s 11-0-11

I currently have Moore, Cousins, Walsh & Collins.

Roberton looking like a no-go with his health has messed my team around a bit (not complaining).

Thanks BB. Looks like one change for me - Hately out, Setterfield mids, Balta in, and wait for team drop :)

Pressure Acts for small fwds can usually be a good indicator of JS. These are all available on the AFL app. I've thrown in a few more of players who aren't quite small fwds as well

Player - JLT 1 and JLT2
Parker - 33 (highest on ground) and 21 (4th for Saints)
Atkins - 32 (highest on ground) and 17 (equal 5th for Cats)
Petruccelle - 15 and 14
Gibbons - 15 (7th best for Blues) and 28 (highest on ground)
Setterfield - 21 and 18
Duursma - 17 (Equal 3rd for Port) and 15
Butters - 17 (Equal 3rd for Port) and 14
Rozee - 23 (2nd for port) and 24 (Equal 1st)
Drew - 16 and 24 (Equal 1st)
B.Scott - 16 and 5
N.Hind - 13 and 9

__

Possibly suggests Rozee may have better JS than Duursma / Butters
Gibbons still had good PAs despite a low score today
Parker definitely fulfilling his role in applying pressure.

Gibbons and Parker look like decent bench options with good job security but both could be slow burns. I feel like McKay is another but undecided. Best to have these 3 on your bench

Duursma and Butters impressed and their numbers in the TAC cup were very good last season. They both didn't have good u/18 championships, which isn't a good sign and something that often translates to a poor start to a first season in the league but at least in the case of Duursma this was partly due to a change in role. I like Duursma more because he's slightly cheaper.

Walsh is a lock, so is Constable and Atkins if named.

Bailey Scott looks like a decent pick if named, but not sure about his JS.

Setterfield and Drew are locks.

Hore and Clark look like good picks, Scrimshaw as well but not as sure with him as I am with the other two.

Petrucelle over Burgess for now. 15 is a big red flag.

Not keen on Sam Collins, his good score came from a lot of free kicks.

Darcy Moore looking like a decent but expensive cash cow with the slightest of chances of becoming keeperish

Peoples thoughts?

Edit: Butters also had three free kicks against. After doing a bit more research on the way he plays he seems completely suited to SuperCoach and he's probably lock-ish and ahead of Gibbons or Scott

Good post. Interesting comments about poorer U18 championships numbers often leading to a slow start to an AFL career.

B.Scott seemed to have decent numbers there - 102 SC for the U18C, 123 SC for AFL Academy Series.

Tempted to just ignore JS - coaches often have extenuating factors that mean it gets thrown out the window after Round 2 anyway.

Carlton vs Richmond will be interesting, with potentially 4 rookies (Walsh, Setterfield, Balta, Gibbons) lining up, with Stocker a chance too!

I have two - Walsh and Moore. But I could also end up with Ridley if some of the basement rookies don’t turn up.

I must admit my sample size isn't big enough to affirm that properly but playing well with tougher opposition seems to be a sign of more genuine playing ability rather than pure athleticism.

In 2018 we had Dow who scored 119 in the TAC cup and 98 at the u/18 champs, Uniacke averaged 134 and 82, Cerra 137 and 95, Brayshaw 131 and then 107, Hunter Clark 126 and then 72, Lochie O'Brien 99 and then 64 as examples.

Jack Higgins scored 141 in the TAC cup and then 151 at the u/18 champs. Worpel managed 104 in TAC cup and 102 at the u/18 champs. Lachie Fogarty, who was really good at the start of the year before falling off dramatically went 144 and 115. Rayner went 123 and 119, but his issue at the next level was to do with his fitness. Naughton managed 92 at the u/18 champs which is very high for a defender as the junior competitions don't seem to favour them.

Stephenson was a notable exception to this with a 117 average in the TAC cup and a 67 average in the u/18 champs.

It's not perfect by any means but an indication. I'd still rate Butters and Duursma on ability, Butters has a few other things that show he could score well despite a poor u/18 championship and he's cheaper than Hunter Clark or Davies-Uniacke were.

totally agree

fascinates me when people post Rookie X and Rookie Y have good JS , before they are even named to debut , let alone show they are capable they belong at this level
