Thanks all for your submissions. Here is Draft 1.

View attachment 7179

Queries, challenges, insults, demands all welcome.

The main weird one is probably Witts at R2. I think in this game a placeholder is more useful. I don't see Gawn as a C option and his last season was by far his best in AFLF (he's not always the best scorer in this format). Witts is better in this than SC and has a good early draw. But I'm certainly not wedded to the pick if people hate it.

I see this as very much an early draft so please give freely with your thoughts.

On a practical note I know this is very much a lesser priority than SC so let's lock a team early next week. Any changes needing to be made from final teams won't involve Thursday night players and won't require any changes until the next day. Does that suit?
Only just starting to put together my side tonight but see a few familiar names ... apologies for not replying yet but will in the ensuing days ... have a few ideas already but need to study the players /draw a bit more before contributing ...

Yeah that sounds like a plan. I assume everyone will be online when the teams drop so any changes we make will be made by all teams.

Also assuming there’s a contingency plan if by some chance we don’t get enough rookies?

It will just have to become even more mid-pricery, I guess. Though there's still a few cheap rookies backstage if the ones I've picked don't show up. Ridley, Clark and cousins also possibilities. I think first to go would be billings (down to Worpel?) to fund another cheap mid-pricer. After that maybe macrae down to a cheaper premo?

Looks good me ... we could afford Higgins > Worpel who has a BE of 17 as opposed to Higgins with a BE of 84.

Only other I have ?? about is Witherden ( BE 147) .. Crisp (BE 73) has a similar price/ave. Think he has had an interupted PS though and is more of a SC player in a stronger team.

Happy enough with how it sits though ...

I'm not doubting you, as I've never played Fantasy, but some of those B/E's seem a bit strange. Where are you getting them from, or how are you calculating them?

I assume they are calculated by the last games played (home and away). Price changes take affect after the first game in this format.

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/dream_team_breakevens

Which would explain the high BE for Witherden

I'm actually at work now, and won't be home for another 4 hours. I think you'll find last years last few games have no affect on this years B/E's. When I get home I'll show you a more likely model for calculating them. :)

I’m not in love with the Higgins pick and I think Mrouch at M2 feels a bit like we’ve missed a tier of mids which I’d either rather go up or down from.

Quite like Witts selection, will give a few potential paths out down the line.

Is there an “AFL Fantasy pig” that we’ve missed?

Sounds good and always willing to learn ... have used that site as a guide for many years and found it to be pretty reliable in this format.

From the rules I also found this ...

I'm very open to Worpel instead of Higgins, if people prefer. Or if anyone has someone they like around that price, or someone cheaper that they don't mind on-field, which might allow us to upgrade elsewhere. Will Powell is one I was briefly interested in, but don't know enough about him to pick with confidence. Is $267k, so cheaper than Walsh, with 67 and 47 Fantasy points in JLT1 and 2. Not huge, but not nothing. Don't love the idea of him on field though.

Are you suggesting putting someone in-between M Crouch and Macrae at M2 or ditching M Crouch altogether? Open to the former, but I'd argue against the latter. IMO M Crouch will be top 6 MID clearly in this format. Was 11th best MID last year despite RD2 injury and playing without Sloane or his brother for much of the year. Is 23 and ready to go to next level.

I reckon Angus Brayshaw is the obvious fantasy pig we're missing. Not sure how to fit him in though, and the Viney factor has me doubting enough to keep him out. But I'm certainly not opposed to him, if people like him and have good ideas for how to fit him in.

Libba > Cousins is one that could save a few $$ but not convinced on either yet ... so might be safer to stay as is. However, if Constable played and had any sort of JS that could save heaps of $$ and allow a decent upgrade to a possible keeper in the FWD line ... just a thought ...

If Constable is named I reckon that's a good option. Or if we think Scott or Atkins will be ok to put on field, we could do Libba down to Gibbons. Libba priced to 54 and Cousins to 45, so I don't have a heap between them but prefer Libba's chances of beating his price by more.

If we went Libba downt to a 170k option it could get Higgins up to Dunkley.

What do people think about:

Libba + Higgins
v
Libba + Worpel
v
Constable + Dunkley
v
Gibbons + Dunkley

Or any other forward under $703k?

Cogs is another fantasy pig a few people wanted and I would like to fit in. If anyone has good ideas for how, I'm open.

Just another thing to consider is that prices tend to go like an escalator and drop like a lift. So entry price can be important.

- point being that since rookies only have limited scoring history they don't tend to suddenly jump that much in price (like SC / RDT) that you've totally missed them. Still need some dollars in hand to grab them though ...

- same could be said for mid-pricers too ... all about the points as they gradually increase in price

Is this an argument against starting Macrae and/or Grundy?

I think Cogs (BE 127) is fairly priced and an upgrade target ... also haven't seen what happens with Kelly in the team yet ..

No ... If the BE's I use are correct then both start fine MacRae (96) and Grundy (105) which are both achievable.

Well done stephen, I think you’ve done a good job here with quite a few constraints.

I had meant to send my picks through but missed the window, sorry! With that said, I was planning on choosing my suggestions from within my DT side (given it’s the same scoring system) but I now see that that needs a fair bit of updating in its own right!

I may offer a view on the odd X vs Y as I get back up the curve on suitable DT picks, but I think this is looking good already as things stand.
