WEST Coast midfielder Jack Redden admits he doesn't know if Josh Kennedy will be risked for a "danger game" against Brisbane, but says the Eagles are confident youngster Oscar Allen can fill the star spearhead's shoes in the season-opener.

Hmmm, another Rookie that appears to have a short run in AFL. Good that this information is coming out before Rd1 starts and that it is shared in this forum!

Tigers coach Damien Hardwick has named exciting young forward Noah Balta “the “closest thing to Alex Rance.”
The 19-year old could make his debut for Richmond on Thursday night against the Blues should star recruit Tom Lynch fail to overcome a fitness test...…...“He’s been incredibly impressive (in the pre-season). He’s as athletic as Alex, he’s got traits that are incredible to watch and even at training, we watch him and go, ‘Wow’,” Hardwick told AFL.com.au.
“What he is, is he’s very raw. Once we refine him into the player we think he can be, we think he’s going to be a very good long-term player.
“Is it going to be this year? Who knows? We hope so. But it might be 12 months down the track.

I reckon they end up resting JK and bring him back for Rd 2. Simmo has already said if he plays against Brisbane it will be restricted mins, so I think they role with Oscar Allen, which is fine by me... really want this kid playing regularly, but just so hard to fit him in at the moment.

Ppl in recent years have been complaining that the game was too easy with all the rookie options.

Embrace the challenge and pick all those mid pricers like you have 20 trades!!
not a bad idea , the biggest issue is finding 7 rookies with decent JS to start on the bench that will actually make enough $$$.

10-12-8 could be feasible this season

Would the value of flexibility that comes with having a Def/Fwd (Moore and Burgess) at each end outweigh Moore and a rookie who looks to have a better scoring potential (Duursma) than Burgess?

take the best rookies. DPP swing is a nice bonus but shouldn't compromise your selections.

with the complete lack of forward rookies i may end up with Moore and Burgess on the same line.

If Atkins or Bailey Scott isn't named round one would people recommend going one of these guys to a Hately, Bailey Smith or Chase Jones (if any of those are named) or would you recommend going to Darragh Joyce via Duursma at the cheaper price?

Carlton has announced the news we've all been waiting for.

No.1 draft pick Sam Walsh - the most popular player in SuperCoach - will make his debut on Thursday night against Richmond.

And he'll be joined by former Giant Will Setterfield and bargain former VFL bolter Michael Gibbons.

Port Adelaide has also confirmed it will have four teenage debutants against Melbourne in Round 1, including popular SuperCoach selections Zak Butters, Xavier Duursma and Willem Drew.

Who else will make the cut - and who will score points for your team? We've analysed under-18 games, draft notes and pre-season form to get the best run-down on all the cheap options for your SuperCoach side.

This is the update in the article, the rest is a repeat of previous articles as posted on the Herald sun thread

Lots of negativity surrounding the rookie options to start, but there are some beauties shaping up for an early cull, aggressive trading strategy.

There should be just enough for rookie correction trades, without having to make too many difficult decisions on which ones exactly.

Corbett, Cavarra, Valente, Quaynor, Logue, Rankine, Caldwell are all unlikely to be selected round 1 or have short-term (3-4 week) injuries.
I can see all 7 of these getting their 3rd game between rounds 5 and 9, which makes for an attractive hard-hitting trading game early. Cash in the bank is my strategy to help facilitate early trades.

Bewley, Miers and Hind may not get 3 games in the first 5-6 rounds. After a few games they may adjust to the pace.

Later on in the year Wilkie, Stocker, McAdam, McHenry, Ling already look like possibilities. O.Allen if JJK/Darling go down.

Yep it's the same story every year.

The weeks and months before the season - "We aren't going to get enough rookies this year!"

Start of season when we get 30 rookies named - "All the rookies have terrible job security!"

We'll get:
Clark, Duursma, McKay, Burgess, Hore, Scrimshaw, Rozee, Collins
Walsh, Smith, Hately, Butters, Constable, Atkins, Gibbons + potentially Bewley, Hind, Scott,
Setterfield, Parker, Drew, Petrucelle, Balta, Miers, potentially Blakey

Good list. I reckon main difference is that there isn't a standout 117-123k pick, have to spend between 8k (Duursma) and 80k (Walsh) extra.

I am 1 premo and 1 mid-pricer short of last year but also last year had Sicily @ 402k, Cogs @ 450k, Cripps @ 530k, Gawn @ 500k as 'everyone serious picking them' + Grundy was reasonably popular @ 530k - so I don't think it's realistic to expect our teams to have the same starting line-ups when guys like Cripps, Dangerfield, Gawn, Grundy are looking like set and forget picks.

I don't think Hatley should be a marginal rookie personally, very much worth the $$ over a Gibbons type IMO.

Small forward in a bottom end side doesn't fill me with confodence.
