There are so many rookies being rumoured to be named now.

What are people’s thoughts on Hind, Bewley, Wilkie compared to the higher priced rookies like Collins, Hately, Scrimshaw etc.?

I feel like Freo don’t have many players missing so Bewley would have decent JS.

I guess if Atkins, Scott etc aren’t named there are plenty of options now.

Down back we have Clark, Wilkie, Duursma, Hore all confirmed and Scrimshaw, Collins both likely.

Yep, can't see me breaking the team to get Moore in now.
Definitely opens up the door to not have Smith and run with something like

Whitfield, Williams, Moore and 5 rookies

Or even

Whitfield, Williams, Collins, Scrimshaw, Clark, Duursma, Wilkie, Hore style backline.

I expect Forwards to be the hardest of the 3 lines for Round 1 and there may be a need to choose between a left field cheap rookie or a Blakey/Lukosius/Darcy Moore type for the final spot. For those running with low cash this can have consequences for structure and rookie decisions elsewhere.

Hopefully not many of the GCS and STK forward options are named on Thursday night 8 man interchange as it would be nice to get forwards settled late Thursday/early Friday.

Settersfield, Duursma, Drew and Burgess as cheaper dpp's should hopefully help to fill out Round 1 lineups as well as provide flexibility through the early rounds for rookie shuffling.

As for your Hind, Bewley, Wilkie vs Collins, Hately, Scrimshaw I think you need to guess whether the higher value player will outscore the lower value player by enough to make equivalent cash or lock down a SC best 22 spot in the opening rounds.

My unscientific guess is the mids will favour Hinds/Bewley over Hately but the defenders will favour Collins/Scrimshaw over Wilkie.

Balta worth looking at now that he has been named with both Riewoldt and Lynch playing?

I can’t think of anyone that will come back that plays a similar role to him?

The problem is his role is not known
He basically trained whole off season with the defenders.
He's got tricks but he'll throw in the odd 30 which won't help anyone.

I agree.

I’m not taking Gibbons unless some other likely’s don’t get picked.
I can see it already, Gibbons spends a game or 2 in the forward pocket and then has a crack at the midfield due to an injury and starts to make coin and FMSCL becomes the most used word on any forum in one day.

Balta has to come in for Parker now doesn’t he even when considering job security. His scoring potential looks massive.

Balta seems similar to Mcgovern 2016, Waterman 2018. Lead-up forward at a good club so he should score ok, and playing a role so should keep his spot.

Is he only there because they are limiting Lynch’s game time this round?

He reeks of a rookie trap to me

Parker and burgess have way better JS surely?
Conversely they look 20 point lower scorers than Balta to me.

I hope the coaches don’t string us along this year and just dump a heap of rookies after round 2

Better scorer why?

Same type of player?
Parker and Burgess as small forwards in awful teams screams 40 point scorers.

Balta in a really good side will have plenty of chances to kick goals, can win his own ball and may even pinch hit in the ruck for easy points.

His Job security the worry but pretty clearly for mine appeals to be a much bigger scorer than those other two.
