I have B Crouch and am interested in what it was about his game last week that would make you want to jump ship? His role seems exactly what we had expected and I think most would’ve had Adelaide winning more games than Port this year prior to the weekends games. Not sure i’d move that mountain to grab Rocky yet.
I guess I look at it this way - he played the role as expected, played pretty well for his first game in 18 months, and scored 91. But he played the role expected. Rocky played the role hoped for, and smashed out a big score.

I expect neither of them will be top 10 mids for the year, so will both need to be upgraded. I guess the question is can Rocky keep up both the scoring and injury free run until he is traded out?

no one considering Balta to a mid rookie ?

why does he have to be traded to a F rookie ?

You make a strong case for trading Rocky in this week which I can’t disagree with (given that I own him and picked him solely for his games against the Blues and Lions).

My main point was that there were reasons for not picking him despite the 170 in JLT2 and the fact that he would be playing the Blues and Lions in R2 and R3 is not new information. You would really need to question what has changed for you with the 140 in R1.

More confidence that he is fully fit? Possibly.

I still think he’s stiil a bit of a start or forget pick.

So I think if people want to bring him in at all, this week makes more sense than next, but you should also be fully prepared to trade him out if the time comes, at first trouble.

People may also need to consider their overall risk profile in their side with keepers / midpricers. Rocky should have a trade reserved against him.

Also need to question if he’s worth two trades possibly (getting him in and out) as he would really need to spike to 550k to be worthwhile as a trade in. Not the end of the world if u start him and he stagnates at high 400ks as a starting pick (or gets injured before spiking).

———

For myself, I definitely need one more week of data before I can commit to my targets (or even trade out Brouch). I also can’t bring Scott in without trading out Brouch so although it would be good preparation for next week to trade Collins, just can’t do it unfortunately.

I’ll have to miss out on Joyce/Schultz/Wilkie types if they turn out to be good rookies. Have Balta too but I’m happy enough to hold for now.
Don't get me wrong I hear where you are coming from. It comes entirely down to risk profile. If I was to make the trade (and I'll be honest I'm pretty conflicted which is a good sign not to) but when I make a trade like this i'm chasing the best case and accepting the risk. I'm not too worried about weighing up 'what if he stagnates in the high 400ks'. I'm solely asking what is the chance he spikes to 550k. Anything less is a fail.

I'm am admittedly surprised you wouldn't set up to get Scott. Yeah it's one week but smashing 100 rd 1 is no mean feat.

To add,

On Rocky - I just wasn't in the mindset. Libba was probably my last picked. Classic case where you just can't quite get that perfect combo all over (you always want more). I just didnt have the kahunas to go to Rocky and have never been a big fan of Port which I think inevitably influences picks on some level. Had been convinced by Brad Crouch and Crows fantasy game. The same bias led me to thinking Duursma would underwhelm and thought I'd take a punt on Ridley kicking on. Flash fwd a week, Port game plan + Bombers looks less than great....the trade says do it...

Would need to have. M/F player in the mids already. I don’t have that currently. (Although I can do similar with D/F dpp magic ?
Hence my decision to start Danger and Drew/Setterfield in my mids just in case this situation arose , given how questionable the F rookies were looking in the first place.

Could very well be a match up decision for Collingwood with Balta , drop him down to VFL and play him as a key defender and see how he adapts to the role in a game situation.

But if you started one of the DPP MID/FWDs in the FWD line in place of Balta, you could of removed a suspect FWD rookie from the outset and been on a less risky (albeit very slightly) MID rookie option. Without knowing who you have in the MIDs as rookies there's at least a few blokes like Constable, Atkins, Scott, Gibbons (and Sparrow, Wagner).

Balta barely played 50% gametime and still looked cooked in the 4th quarter. I don't think he has the conditioning to play AFL just yet. Once Grigg comes back that's their 2nd ruck option sorted, and they hardly need another tall forward. Very likely we don't see him again this year.

Like, who is this superstar forward rookie that everyone is waiting for? One might appear down the line, but by then you've had a bloke rot on your bench not making money for the last 3-4 weeks. His only use is as a loophole but that's a pretty flimsy reason to keep a non-playing rookie IMO.

Burgess, Pet and Schultz may not be great options but at least they're playing. Even if Burgess only goes up 80k, that's 80k more than you'd have if you stick with Balta.
Cavarra, Stengle and Corbett are three that come to mind who could play early and possibly score better than Burgess/Petrucelle/Schultz.

My only ?? about this is that he has already showed his talents as a defender in his junior games ... so Rance down and he still doesn't hold his spot ...

Not sure the RIC ins are better than the forced/opted outs yet so will wait until round 3 ...

True as well , I doubt too many would have Drew and Setterfield on their Forward bench though.

Suspect the favourites there would be Balta , Burgess (link with Moore) , Parker & Petrucelle , Schultz came from the clouds.

Current mids I have are Walsh , Scott (Setterfield/Drew , Constable , Gibbons)

Atkins likely to get dropped this week or next , Drew JS still questionable.

Keen to see how Sparrow & Wagner go if named.

I guess another option for Balta is to Clarke if named via Bines.

maybe Hardwick dropped him for disciplinary reasons then , didn't he give away 4-5 FA or something.

I find that a difficult reason to justify ... he had ~50% game time and went as hard as he could when he had a chance at it ... never known any big fella to not be clumsy at times ... but yes he had a few that went against him ..

According to Doctor Supercoach, Greene is out due to general soreness. Worth an upgrade to Worpel (have to trade out Collins to do so) or holding on?

Have looked at this but find it hard to replace Toby with a 12 game player priced extraordinarily high ... not ruling it out though ...

In the exact same situation! I like the look of Worpel.. but man is he priced high after so little games/ history of scoring. Decisions decisions decisions!

Have both Balta and Collins.

Issue I have is I feel like I have all the good rookies, so at the moment might just trade Collins > Wilke and hold Balta to see if someone better shows up this week
