As bad as his SC was I actually thought he showed some signs.
Yeah I agree with this, his SC was putrid but footywise he did a couple of nice things in each of those first 3 quarters. To read the intercept, cut the Jonas kick off, then the running bounces and piece of mind to dish off over the top for the joe the goose was pretty good. You don't often see a bloke that big streaming through the centre bouncing the ball at such pace hahah. The 50m penalty against and the free kick right in front of the goal both late in the game obviously destroyed any chance he had of hitting his BE. He'll learn with experience.

If Rotham or ROB look to have any sort of half decent JS I'll be flicking him to one of them via DPPs. But as you say, footy wise he showed signs.

Who knows, we might have Balta as a rookie option again next year in SC :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Can't see Nank surviving the season rucking 100% of the time , Jack comes back with a broken wrist , Lynch with his knees , maybe Caddy or McIntosh can do the job , don't know much about Soldo.

Just start 4 mids at the CB and don't contest at all ?

I only saw bits of him (albeit he only had 10 touches) and he does occasionally look good. He set up one scoring shot (think it was a goal) with an intercept near D50.

You’d have to think that he can’t make as many errors (especially errors per possession) as he does, equally I think he’s now done it three games straight. He’s had 5, 3 and 7 clangers (which I think includes the 50s against, but I believe they’re -8 SC vs -3 for a normal FA) from 5, 5 and 10 possessions. That’s a clanger to possession ratio of 1, 0.6 and 0.7 - he’s got a clanger most times he’s touched the ball.

Two things would concern me about him:

- I went back and looked at his JLT scores yesterday, trying to see if I’d missed something, before trading him out. He had a great game in JLT1, but a lot of key players also missed or played lower TOG during that game ... I was looking at those who registered I50s in the JLT (that’s what Balta was doing, as an indication of the role he was given) but in JLT2 a number of other Richmond players went from 50 or 60% to 70 or 80% TOG and their I50s went up accordingly. In aggregate the TOG difference was more than a player’s worth - so Balta’s JLT1 role was not just generous, it might have been completely eliminated.

- Balta’s one TOG was only 43% last night. I can’t recall seeing such a low figure for an in injured player in a proper (non JLT) game. That could indicate that they do need him to pinch hit in the ruck occasionally, but it also indicates to me that he’s clearly the last player they want on the field, to the point that they would actually rather have him off the field much of the time even if it limits their rotations (I’m assuming Balta wasn’t himself injured etc). His TOG in prior rounds was 52% (I thought Dimma was teaching him a lesson for not coming off when they were signaling for him to) and 94% (when Short and Cotchin were both injured intra-game).

I wouldn’t be surprised if he jagged an 80+ spike game if he had a match with fewer clangers and higher TOG, but equally I wouldn’t be surprised to see him dropped and only played occasionally. He might even do both!

I think the first one is lineball and would probably decide it based on league matchups if you’re focused on those.

I would go Setterfield over Burgess. Averages and arguably role would suggest that makes sense.

How many points does Parker score today? I need 70 points to win so it’s either setters or parker
I think they'll both score 69.

Just joshin, toss a coin mate, it is just too hard to figure out. I have both on field, SC gold has parker scoring more.

That was far too technical , detailed and far well researched for me to understand ?

strewth , no wonder I struggle with this , when people do this amount of research into players

incredible research , I will just hope they persevere with him

Cheers

Hindsight is a wonderful thing...used the old 'bird in the hand' theory with Balta for Rd1. Imagined if we waited 1 more game during that round and went Miers instead, he's looking to be one of the better FWD Rookie prospects that most have missed and/or overlooked.

Better news on the horizon as Corbett finally makes his debut in the NEAFLE today. Mature age and was much talked about during the preseason. Here's to him making a good impression in the NEAFLE and breaking into the AFL rank sooner rather than later to help change our overall mood with the current crop of FWD Rookies.

Another one to keep a watch is J Rowbottom MID $117,300.

Was Emergency for the Swans first 3 rounds and has been one of their best in the NEAFLE. McInerney didn't make the most of his debut this round so Rowbottom may be given a chance soon.

Bailey Scott will put on the E today and with Constable fair chance of rested I need you to do what you did for me in round one Bailey.

Duursma with the E tonight in defence and Drew with E tonight up forward although that one fairly academic as do not have a 7th forward playing anyway so the non-player on field is essentially there as place holder for captain loophole to get the C.

O'Brien will bring on over weekend as R3 but no point putting E on as Grundy played last night and Gawn will later in weekend before O'Brien if I got the match sequence right in my head. Bailey Scott is my only activity in the day. Go North!!!!
