Dr Jones & Partners Injury Update: R11

Matt Hass gives us the weekly injury update.

Crows ruckman Sam Jacobs could play his first game of competitive football since Round Two this weekend as he makes his return from a knee injury.

The 31-year-old underwent surgery to his right knee in April after aggravating an existing meniscal injury in a collision.

Crows General Manager of High Performance Matt Hass told AFC Media on Tuesday morning that Jacobs was a strong chance to pull on the tricolours this weekend.

“Sam’s progressed well, his strength and conditioning has really improved,” Hass said.

“He just needs to get through main training on Thursday to be available this weekend.”

Midfielder Matt Crouch (hip) and forward Tom Lynch (hamstring) will face tests on Thursday after missing out on Round 10 with injury.

Hass said Crouch had made significant progress in the past week but still had boxes to tick ahead of the weekend.

“He’s regained his running capabilities, as well as his kicking, running and marking is all looking really nice,” Hass said.

“However, it’s the more ballistic, dynamic movements that are the concerns at the moment so he’ll need to tick off those areas to be available.”

As for Lynch, who was a late withdrawal ahead of Round 10 with a minor hamstring injury, Hass said the forward would make his case at main training on Thursday.

“He’s done a couple of running sessions since the injury - it was a very low-grade hamstring injury so he’ll be a test for the weekend,” Hass said.

Hass also confirmed David Mackay would be available after fully recovering from the virus that ruled him out of Round 10.

ADELAIDE

PlayerInjuryEstimated Return Matt Crouch Hip/abdominal Test Tom Doedee Knee Season Sam Jacobs Knee Test Tom Lynch Hamstring Test Updated: Tuesday, May 28Early prognosis

Crouch and Lynch will have to complete main training on Thursday to be considered for Saturday night's encounter with Melbourne in Darwin. Crouch has missed the past two games with a small muscle tear in the abdominal area near his hip, while Lynch had a low-grade hamstring strain that forced him to miss last week's 12-point loss to West Coast. Jacobs will also be assessed this week to see if he will play his first game since round two. The experienced ruckman is likely to return through the SANFL having had surgery to his right knee in April. - Lee Gaskin

BRISBANE

PlayerInjuryEstimated Return Marcus Adams Knee 4 weeks Zac Bailey Hamstring 2-4 weeks Jarrod Berry Knee 6-8 weeks Ely Smith Foot 5 weeks Updated: Tuesday, May 28Early prognosis

Berry will have surgery on his knee on Wednesday to remove a Baker's cyst. Bailey has progressed a fraction quicker than expected and is back running, however, recovering from his second hamstring tear of the season, the Lions will be cautious. - Michael Whiting

CARLTON

PlayerInjuryEstimated Return David Cuningham Soreness Test Tom De Koning Knee 2-3 weeks Sam Docherty Knee Indefinite Liam Jones Concussion 1 week Marc Murphy Fractured ribs 2-3 weeks Sam Petrevski-Seton Hamstring Test Jarrod Pickett Knee Indefinite Lachie Plowman Cheekbone Test Kade Simpson Hamstring Test Tom Williamson Back 1 week Updated: Tuesday, May 21Early prognosis

The Blues expect to regain defensive duo Simpson and Plowman for this week's clash with the Saints, but Jones will miss a third-straight match due to concussion. Murphy will miss at least the next fortnight having suffered fractured ribs against the Giants, while Petrevski-Seton and Cuningham will undergo fitness tests later this week due to tightness and soreness respectively. - Riley Beveridge

COLLINGWOOD

PlayerInjuryEstimated Return Taylor Adams Groin 2-3 weeks Flynn Appleby Ankle Test Tyler Brown Shoulder Test Mason Cox Ankle Test Jordan De Goey Shin Test Lynden Dunn Knee Season Jamie Elliott Hamstring 2-3 weeks Will Kelly Leg 6-10 weeks Tom Langdon Knee 4-5 weeks Darcy Moore Ankle Test Nathan Murphy Ankle Indefinite Sam Murray Provisional ASADA suspension TBC Anton Tohill Quad Test Travis Varcoe Suspension Available Daniel Wells Knee 13 weeks Updated: Tuesday, May 28Early prognosis

Wells has again been cruelled by a long-term injury, and there's a possibility Langdon could also be set for a lengthy stint on the sidelines. However, the Pies are hopeful they will regain stars De Goey, Cox and Moore for the clash with Fremantle at the MCG on Saturday. They will also have the option of bringing back Varcoe, but will be without Adams and Elliott for at least another fortnight. Tyler Brown, Appleby and Tohill are nearing returns, but Murphy's recovery has been slow and Kellysuffered a hamstring tendon injury in the VFL. The season seems over for veteran Dunn after a second anterior cruciate ligament rupture in nine months. - Ben Collins

ESSENDON

PlayerInjuryEstimated Return Joe Daniher Groin Season Sam Draper Knee Season Orazio Fantasia Quad 1-2 weeks Kobe Mutch Hamstring 3-5 weeks Dylan Shiel Hamstring Test Devon Smith Knee Season James Stewart Groin 1-2 weeks Jake Stringer Hamstring 2-3 weeks Updated: Tuesday, May 28Early prognosis

Stringer has added to the Bombers' injury woes, and while Shielhas not yet been ruled out of playing against Carlton on Sunday, Essendon will play that conservatively with the star midfielder. Fantasia is due back after the Bombers' round 12 bye and his return can't come quick enough. - Callum Twomey

FREMANTLE

PlayerInjuryEstimated Return Hayden Ballantyne Hamstring 2 weeks Harley Bennell Calf Test Sean Darcy Ankle 4-6 weeks Stephen Hill Quad 3 weeks Shane Kersten Foot TBC Aaron Sandilands Calf TBC Sam Sturt Concussion 3 weeks Matt Taberber Foot 8 weeks Updated: Tuesday, May 21Early prognosis

Taberner going down on the same weekend as Darcy thins the big man stocks, with Sandilands still yet to have a timeframe to return. Bennell should be back in his latest bid to save his career for Peel against West Perth this Saturday, provided he gets through training. - Travis King

GEELONG

PlayerInjuryEstimated Return Tom Atkins Hip flexor Test Nakia Cockatoo Knee Indefinite Jordan Cunico Ankle 6-8 weeks Patrick Dangerfield Ankle Test Lachie Henderson Plantar fascia 1-2 weeks Ben Jarvis Calf 1-2 weeks Sam Menegola Knee 3-4 weeks Quinton Narkle Hamstring 2-3 weeks Stefan Okunbor Groin 1-2 weeks Rhys Stanley Adductor Test Updated: Wednesday, May 22Early prognosis

Dangerfield has ditched the crutches after spraining his ankle in the win over the Western Bulldogs. The superstar will need to impress at Wednesday's main training to put his name up for selection, along with Atkins and Stanley who missed last week. Menegola was due to go under the knife on Tuesday to clean out cartilage in his knee. Cockatoo continues to build his running base, while Cunico's rehabilitation has progressed to being focusing on mobility. Jarvis missed Sunday's VFL win with a calf strain, while Okunbor has been having groin trouble in recent times. - Mitch Cleary

Bad news for Ainsworth who required surgery on the foot he injured against Geelong on Saturday night. Miller is still a week-to-week proposition, but has already missed two, while Hanleystill sounds like he's a few weeks away. - Michael Whiting

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

PlayerInjuryEstimated Return Stephen Coniglio Finger Test Aidan Corr Ankle Test Zac Langdon Foot Test Jonathon Patton Knee TBC Tommy Sheridan Calf 3 weeks Callan Ward Knee Season Zac Williams Hamstring Test Updated: Tuesday, May 21Early prognosis

Williams isn't likely to face Melbourne on Sunday but Coniglioand Corr should be right for the MCG clash. Both will hit the track on Wednesday to confirm their availability. Langdoncouldn't train last week after only one game back, so he could miss again. - Adam Curley

HAWTHORN

PlayerInjuryEstimated Return Grant Birchall Calf/knee Indefinite James Frawley Hamstring Test Mitch Lewis Concussion Test Ben McEvoy Ankle 4-6 weeks Darren Minchington Hamstring 2 weeks Tom Mitchell Broken leg Indefinite Tim Mohr Dislocated knee/ACL Season Ryan Schoenmakers Calf Test Isaac Smith Foot Test Chad Wingard Hamstring Test Updated: Tuesday, May 21Early prognosis

McEvoy is the major news here. His right ankle got caught under him in a Nathan Broad tackle and he tried to return in the second quarter, but was done for the day by half-time. McEvoy sustained a syndesmosis sprain and could be out for a significant time. Ex-Saint Minchington has suffered a second hamstring setback this year. Frawley, Smith and Wingard are all a chance to return against Port Adelaide on Saturday. The Hawks completed only a light training session on Tuesday, but Wingard moved well and remained on the ground for longer than most of his teammates to complete extra goalkicking practice. - Marc McGowan

MELBOURNE

PlayerInjuryEstimated Return Michael Hibberd Collarbone Test Neville Jetta Knee 6-8 weeks Kade Kolodjashnij Concussion Test Jordan Lewis Suspension 1 week Steven May Groin Test Jake Melksham Foot 2-3 weeks Alex Neal-Bullen Concussion Test Aaron Nietschke Knee Season Christian Salem Concussion Test Joel Smith Groin 3-5 weeks Aaron vandenBerg Ankle 3-5 weeks Guy Walker Shoulder Indefinite Updated: Tuesday, May 28Early prognosis

Much better news on the injury front this week, with a swag of players either available or tests. Jake Lever is likely to spend another week in the VFL after rolling an ankle. Coach Simon Goodwin said on Sunday Hibberd, Salem, Neal-Bullen, May and Kolodjashnij should be available for selection this week. Lewis(ankle) successfully returned through the VFL last week but has been given a one-match suspension for striking. – Sarah Black.

Does anybody know how ZWilliams is tracking?

Was expected to miss 2 but I can't seem to find anymore info about his progress and whether he is likely for next week.

TIA!
