So the issue I have this week is that I may be looking at just 19 players and this includes iffy ones like Marsh & Balta.
Should I be looking to trade Balta out before he bleeds more cash or keep him so that I can have 19 players?

@Monya Meow Meow don't get too caught up in 1 week. Do what will benefit your side in the long run. IMO, that's making a play on Balta now before he bleeds cash and taking the risk with only 18.
Sound advice about the long run, thanks.
Would you change your mind if I had to take a donut by trading Balta out eg. only 17 players with Balta being #17?

Hi guys, below is my Trading Games team which is sitting around 3k overall atm... above are my planned trades and below is my team after trades. Any thoughts if I'm doing the wrong thing.. Plan would be to cash in ROB next week and upgrade Larkey and Stack (not sure who to..) Smith to Whitfield after that... 9 trades left after this weekend

Appreciate your assistance..

Nostalgia.

Some people have NAMES locked into their heads, Being champions of years gone by clouds their judgment on the current situation.
It's the flip side to the successful ''Tried & tested'' theory when selecting players.
Yes I'm not buying into the Gray resurgence either.... he's done nothing really to suggest the resurgence is coming has he?

Yeah I might consider a move to ensure playing 18, but I would try to do it without jeopardising my side long term. I feel like Baltas late price boost is great for any owner (I'm a non owner). So take advantage of it. But only if you can ensure fielding 18 players. Are there any other plays you could make that would give you 18-19 players and Balta out?

Clark & Whitfield have become Boak & Sicily so I can do one more trade out between Atkins, Answerth or Balta to a rookie like Clarke/Bewley.
If Marsh is named, I will have 18 players and can move Balta on.
If Marsh is not named, I will need to keep Balta to have 17 players and move on Atkins or Answerth to get 18 players.
If Hayes comes back in for some weird reason then it strengthens my case to move Balta on as well.

So it all depends if Marsh is named this week I think.

I can bring in Gray (to complete my forwards) and Fyfe/Zerrett etc. but I'm still uncomfortable re. Gray.

Not sure he's back, and frankly he annoys me for some reason. Should probably go with my gut, or irrational dislikes. Will see.

Why is Travis Boak scoring better this year than for the last 5 years? IT worries me he can have his "all time" SC season (107) by averaging 101 from here. Not a bad return for 518, but still...

Robbie Gray on the other hand can average "only" 90 for the season by going at c. 97 from here.

In his mid-playing heyday he was clear #1 tag target and was smothered every week. Since then he has played mostly hff. For whatever reason (way game is played now, stronger port mids?, he's old) he doesn't seem to be targeted in the same way now, despite playing mostly mid. Always a worry getting guys during a career year at this age but he has certainly looked good so far.

Mind if I grill you for some detail on your opinion that Blakely will be given a mid gig eventually?

You must have heard/read/seen some things that lead you to this assumption otherwise it would be a blind stab in the dark which i doubt you'd make.

Mundy maybe back to rotating from forward to make way? Who fills Blakely's role down back if that's the case? Oh, i have questions, many questions for you lol....:sneaky:
I haven't read or seen anything since he came back, but the stated plan at the start of the year was for him to play mids, and that seemed to be backed up by the way they talked when he got injured, about replacing him by moving Mundy into mids. To me it is just common sense that they need him in there, and he will go there when ready. They have a chance to play finals so I think predictions can be made on what we think is best for them. Like all predictions there are no guarantees but I see him as a very high upside player if it plays out as I hope, so I'm happy to take the punt.

Makes sense for Atkins > Bewley.

Then next week Balta can become Clarke/Gardner/Premium. I didn't realise Balta was only going to lose roughly 18k. You never know, he could surprise you also. Walsh + Gibbons certainly surprised me last week!

Fingers crossed that Marsh is named for you, then I think Balta out would be a good play that will put you ahead for next week both with an extra move, and some extra cash.

Been throwing up so many different scenarios. With trades running very low, do you go for a team with good back up - like a floating Heeney/Westhoff by going for a Bont and not a Neale? or do you go for the best like Neale and Boak?

Basically 6 weeks ago i had a 50k ranking and 2nd last in my cash league so i thought screw it, just go all out!

Up to second now in the cash league after 6 wins in a row and up to 10k ranking! but on the crap side, i have 9 trades left (502k though) before trades this week.

So this week I'm definitely getting rid of Balta and most likely Answerth - Sicily is definitely coming in and i'm throwing up either Boak or wait for Heeney.

I shouldn't have an issue getting 18 this week - I just want to know if I should go for balance or strength.

This is my current team:
Lloyd Andrews Stewart Laird Ellis Duursma (Gardner Naish)
Cripps Fyfe Oliver Macrae Rockliff Coniglio Walsh Answerth (Baker Stocker Settlefield)
Grundy Gawn (Bines)
Dangerfield Kelly Dunkley Daniel Westhoff Baker (Balta Burgess)

Sicily will come in and Duursma to the midfield. The rest I am unsure of.

I can foresee a complete team with only 4 trades left :(

Thanks stephen. I'm unsure about it but I'll probably give him a go!

Midfield
Captaincy burden off him
Personal issues gone.

I highlighted before the season the likelihood of this happening.

For anyone considering Boak that isn’t scared off by his age here’s a little bit of a plus minus regarding some knowledge about him:

Travis Boak

(+) will definitely playing more midfield minutes this year. This is highlighted with Wingard and Polec leaving and Ebert now being pushed into a forward role (confirmed by the coaches at the members convention).

(+) very consistent scorer. Although he hasn’t had massive games in the last couple of years, his really bad games are few and far between (11 scores under 70 in his last 87 games)

(+) super durable. He has played 22, 21, 22, 22, 21 games in the last 5 seasons. Missed just 2 home and away games in his last 110.

(+) he was dealing with issues the last 2 years regarding a bad split with his long term girlfriend. There was a lot of rumours he was struggling mentally and the burden of the captaincy was having an effect on him (see Beams improvement when released from the captaincy and freed up). He has all that weight off of his shoulders now and no expectations regarding his role in the team and the team isn’t expect to do well this year.

(-) age is a worry. He is now 30 and although he is durable there are a lot of miles in his legs.

(-) Hasn’t performed as a premium in the last 3 years and it’s been 5 years since he averaged over 100.

(-) Port aren’t expecting to win many games this year. Although this can be a positive as the team often goes the opposite of what many people expect in the last 4-5 years.

He looks like a good durable, consistent selection. There is upside with his move back into a more midfield orientated role and he did look very fit and score pretty well in JLT games as well.
