Better judges than me consider him our second best batsmen in history behind Bradman.

The way he is batting he might do it again in the series as well.
If "Global Warming" flat tracks, covered pitches disappear, and shaking a tree in the Caribbean brings down 5 fast bowlers on every island, then he may be able to show that he is the second best batsmen behind Bradman.

A tinge of green nowadays sees teams score less than 100. Give them a 1970/80s bat and see how far they hit it.

Steve Smith has the eye of a dead fish. He would find a way to score runs in any era. However, I would see him more as a Doug Walters than a Greg Chappell.

Some people suggest Bradman is not even our best :)

The modern game has certainly changed.

I still have GS Chappell & Punter ahead of him and probably AB given the attacks he used to face and score against (including those Windies).

Thank god he is back though as 2-3 of the others don't look Test standard in this test.

He’s a very strong chance to be the fastest ever to 30 centuries given that The Don “only” managed 29.

Currently averaging 63, which is the second best of all time. He’s also played comfortably the most innings of any batsman to average over 60.

1st Innings of the 4th Test at this rate ?

Doesn't look like getting out , pitch is doing nothing much and there bowlers are struggling.

I guess records are what they are , BUT often wonder where Pollock & Barry Richards could have ended up.

Speaking of all time greats - Matthew Wade take a bow. Worked his ass off to get back into this side, and has himself a crucial test match 50 in his return test. Absolutely brilliant. I love to bag our selectors, but stoked they’ve finally got something right.

Correlation? "Speaking of all time greats- Matthew Wade take a bow." Not even in the conversation of all time greats of World cricket, let alone Australian.

Great comeback from being dumped. Torch bearer for the discarded, and colour blind.

West Indies would have fixed him up. He probably would have only averaged 58.
would have been very interesting to see , Greendidge might have told them to go a bit easier on him.

I think he would have carved up most of the other countries attacks though.

Frustrating viewing, moreso this field looks like it’s given up on getting him out.
Waiting for him to get himself out.

Lack of red ball cricket might be hurting the Bowlers , obviously no Anderson hurts , but the rest don't look too dangerous at this stage.

Don't want to be chasing much more than 275-300 ish (or more)

It was said in jest ***. Clearly a bloke who has a test average under 30 is not under consideration to be an all time great. I feel dumber for having to explain myself.

Turning to Denly ahead of of Ali says everything about Ali too.
Root looks more dangerous than Ali , think Mo's confidence is shot.

Leach or Rashid for Lords , Bairstow needs to go as well unless he does something in the 2nd Innings.

I think England is in T20 domestic mode though now , so hard for them to make too many changes.

Surely they should schedule the Lions to play 4 day matches against the likes of Ireland , Scotland & Netherlands at this time to get some players playing red ball cricket.

England will cause more problems with Archer in the team next test. Extra pace and bounce provides something a bit different. Broad still bowls well, but he’s not quite the pacy fella he used to be. If Anderson is out, don’t be surprised if we struggle next test if there’s something in the wicket again as Archer should exploit it a bit better.

Alternatively, they drop Ali because he’s been quite useless for them in conditions that are meant to suit.

Lose a bowler and the rest often team to the conservative side after the initial new ball. Throw up a part timer with a little jazz and it looks good.
