This is a good idea (@Herbie66 has mentioned something similar). One challenge with scoring KPFs differently is that CD aren’t allocating SC points for the purpose of SuperCoach, they’re doing it to measure impact for the ratings they sell to the clubs.

Creating new positions seems like a neat solution. They cut R4 and added M11 a few years back, I guess this would just be a more extreme example of that type of change.

Would likely lead to more donuts though!
I do like the idea in principle of forcing teams to contain 1 or 2 key position forwards and defenders. However the problem I can see with it is generally there are only a few key position players that are capable of consistently scoring at what we have come to expect and I suspect the vast majority of serious teams would end up with the same ones.

Furthermore with only 4 or 5 spots for smaller defenders and forwards I think the same would happen there with all serious teams targeting the same perceived must haves with less room for a speculative pick.

The outcome would likely be that those 5 and 6 forwards and defenders, which is where the differences in teams usually lie, would become the same key position player in many cases.

I know teams already become very similar as we move through the season however with this I think it would become worse and it would happen from earlier in the season.
Thanks for our thoughts. I hadn't fully baked it...so yeah it's just a seed, grow at own risk.

My initial thoughts Yes, more likelihood of donuts. KPF/D rookies slightly more attractive. ...coaches potentially running 2 KPF elibile forwards... and if there are 4 or 5 you think are viable, well that is damn sight better than either of R1 (Grundy) and R2 Gawn/H2Goldy) this year. But yes if that moves the variability from F6 that we had this year... then perhaps not great....

The bit I like about it is that KPFs are the most god dan volatile in terms of scoring...leading to more opportunity to switch when overvalued... more strategy/trading skill.

I quite like this idea, maybe 1 KPP (def or forward) with 1 bench spot.
Just as an aside, CD use player ratings (based on position and situation vs average result) not SuperCoach to sell to teams.

Interesting, thanks - I thought I had heard/read something different. That actually makes it easier, in that they could simply increase the scoring for certain acts that KPFs/KPDs are more likely to register (contested marks, goals, spoils etc).

Would be nice if they had more "realistic" positions to relate to the actual game so maybe something along these lines:-

2 x KPF plus 2 x KPD
1 x General Forward plus 1 x General Defender
1 x Small Forward plus 1 x Small Defender
1 Ruck
9 midfielders (probably too many)

Not sure how you would work the bench & Emergencies though as you would need adequate coverage in each position.

Delayed start to pre-season for dethroned Brownlow Hawk

HAWTHORN star Tom Mitchell faces a delayed start to pre-season this summer as he continues his long road to recovery from a broken leg, but remains optimistic he will take his place in the Hawks' round one team next year.

Mitchell, last year's Brownlow Medal winner, was unable to defend his crown as the game's best individual player on Monday night, having missed the entirety of the 2019 season after suffering a broken leg in January.

The prolific onballer sustained clean breaks to the tibia and fibula bones in his left leg during a tackling drill at training. However, the important 26-year-old is back running and reiterated that his rehabilitation program remains on track following the debilitating setback.

"It's going well," Mitchell told AFL.com.au at Monday night's Brownlow Medal.

"I've started some running and things like that, so I'm looking forward to next season.

"There might be a slight delay (to pre-season), but I'm still hoping to play early next year.

"I hope I'm right for round one. That's the plan."

Unless they just freed up the bench so it was no longer position specific. Just a normal real life bench covering any position.

If he's not selected round one, Punt Rd might be burnt down!
Which would be no bad thing.

BTW, with one game played (a final, not regular season), what price will this guy be? I think I remember players with one game at a good SC score not being bottom priced?

it's been reported that the final played does not affect his price, so expect $123k according to @Herbie66

Anyone know what Jack Steven is likely to be worth?

Looks like he will be in cats colours next season and if he is cheap enough and looking skinny/fit in the preseason he might be worth a punt early on as a short term upgrade type.

If fit worth putting in that Ward basket I reckon.
