In regard to the Kelly situation; should Geelong consider the fact that trading him to West Coast will presumably make them harder to beat for the premiership next season?
Kelly is hardly a favourite son after 2 years so not sure they will be too sympathetic to his situation. Will they be cold enough to just trade him to the highest bidder given they are now resigned to losing him. No skin off their nose if Kelly winds up somewhere he doesn’t want to be, in fact it probably helps their 2020 chances. I acknowledge his lack of desire to play elsewhere would affect what other teams would be prepared to pay.

Can't remember a player being traded to a club he didn't want to go to. Deals always get done even if it leaves one or both of the parties not happy with the situation.
It interesting to point out isn’t it? Crows played played ball and got the deal done, yet Geelong appear to want to play hard ball now, and no I don’t really care about the distinction between off contract and free agency. I expect the AFL would be smoothing things over behind the scenes, given his compelling family reasons. I’ll note that it’s possible that their salary cap and restrictions on player movement are possibly against Australian restraint of trade laws and competition laws but as such have never been challenged in court, probably through mutual agreement and the AFL's ability to get things like this done.
He is THE definition of steak knives Herbie, got the deal done, made the Crows feel good about it but didn’t play an AFL game for them. Wayne Milera was what the Crows really got out of it!
