In regard to the Kelly situation; should Geelong consider the fact that trading him to West Coast will presumably make them harder to beat for the premiership next season?

Kelly is hardly a favourite son after 2 years so not sure they will be too sympathetic to his situation. Will they be cold enough to just trade him to the highest bidder given they are now resigned to losing him. No skin off their nose if Kelly winds up somewhere he doesn’t want to be, in fact it probably helps their 2020 chances. I acknowledge his lack of desire to play elsewhere would affect what other teams would be prepared to pay.
Obviously not ideal for Geelong to be trading Kelly to a rival club near the top. But there are some pretty decent people at the Cats and though he has only given them 2 years service, They knew the risks in picking a guy who didn't want to go East... And I reckon they will respect his wishes to get to West Coast. Think there would still be a great deal of care for him as a person an his situation

Can't remember a player being traded to a club he didn't want to go to. Deals always get done even if it leaves one or both of the parties not happy with the situation.

It interesting to point out isn’t it? Crows played played ball and got the deal done, yet Geelong appear to want to play hard ball now, and no I don’t really care about the distinction between off contract and free agency. I expect the AFL would be smoothing things over behind the scenes, given his compelling family reasons. I’ll note that it’s possible that their salary cap and restrictions on player movement are possibly against Australian restraint of trade laws and competition laws but as such have never been challenged in court, probably through mutual agreement and the AFL's ability to get things like this done.

He is THE definition of steak knives Herbie, got the deal done, made the Crows feel good about it but didn’t play an AFL game for them. Wayne Milera was what the Crows really got out of it!
Yeah the Restraint of trade angle only takes 1 player taking the AFL to court and the whole AFL system falls apart. The AFL would be very fearful of this occurring I think hence the offer of mediation if needed.

Very interesting the wording of the Geelong statement in Trade Talk tonight.

Kelly has requested a trade back to Western Australia , his PREFERRED club is West Coast Eagles.

Might not be as clear cut as people are thinking (and hoping for)

Yeah Kelly’s manager released his statement not long after clearly stating Eagles were his intended target.. Cats just trying to play a stronger hand

Can't blame them , they will want to get the best deal they can for him.

Afterall he did just finish equal 5th in the Brownlow , so fairly obvious he will be a massive loss especially given the age demographic of the Holy Trinity.

He spent the last two years playing VFL for Geelong and is now headed back to a little competition in South Australia to play for Sturt.

I will have to monitor him and see how he progresses , surprised more clubs don't look at drafting players 20-23 years after they play in these other competitions , so many get get drafted at 18 , delisted at 20 (for a number of reasons) and then lost forever to the AFL system.

Luke Partington won the medal this year in this little competition playing for Glenelg , be interesting to see if he gets another chance with a AFL club.

Is Fantasia really worth SPP and pick 27? Honestly, bring back the player for player swap. Granted that Fantasia is still under contract, but SPP addresses one of Essendon's major concerns: an inside bull. Essendon have Irving Mosquito waiting in the wings. Would love to see Tippa and Mosquito lighting up the MCG as a neutral fan.
Personally I find Pick 5 and 9 for Daniher more offensive... he's played 11 games in the last 2 seasons!

On the Fantasia trade, SPP has poor kicking skills which could maybe be improved with some better decision making but definitely Fantasia has the biggest upside.

I actually think this is pretty close to a fair deal, as much as a need for inside mids Ess have, a fit Fantasia has a lot of x factor and can turn games and imagine a Raz and Rozee show lighting up Adelaide Oval... SPP is a see ball, get ball Bull and would fit in ok (footy iq and footskills lacking aside as Essendon definitely don't need any more of those). Straight swap of Wines for Raz sounds better to me as an Essendon man.. ?

I love this time of year. The way which supporters rate players on their lists vs those of other teams never ceases to get a rise out of me. 2 top 10 picks for Daniher, a bloke thats missed basically two full seasons with OP - one of the most degenerative issues a footy player can get, has to be one of the most ridiculous things Ive seen in recent trade periods.

Ill burn my membership if Port trade SPP + a 2nd round pick for Fantasia.

Just goes to show that no one should trade with Essendon. Ever.
