Hi Saintellica,
the shift from overall Ranking to League glory is something a lot of Coaches do around now each season.
What is best depends on your ladder position, and how your opponents look in the next 2 weeks.
That aside, you are in a strong position with cash and trades left. If you weren't looking at League glory I would suggest getting Beams this week. Yes, he has a huge B/E (186), but against that, he could score 150 this week against GWS. If he does, he only drops about $16k, and you've missed a big score to save $16k! I think in your position, as you are not going for high Ranking now, you are best to wait a week to get him. I watched his game this last weekend, and he did look good!
For starters, I think you need to upgrade Goodes to SD Thompson or McKenzie. Your other trade, if you do another one this week, comes down to if Buddy is selected, and how important this weekend's match is to your ladder position.
Let me know you ladder position, and how likely you are to move into/stay in the top 4, and how strong your opponent is this week. Then when the teams are announced this week, you'll be in a better position to decide if you need another trade. :)
Hi Rowsus, thanks for your help here. I am ranked 1 in 3 leagues and 2nd (equal 1st on percentage) in the other 2. Can't lose double chance. Have lost 7 games over all 5 leagues. Really good chance to finish 1st in all five with a bit of luck. All opposition over next 2 rounds ranked 4 or lower (most outside 8). Was aiming for high finish this season but went to Hawaii for 3 weeks mid year and dropped 5,000 spots - but it was worth it.

Besides Goodes having to go I think Nic Nat is just about cooked. Good chance he will be rested this week and then don't think we will be getting much more out of him for the rest of the season. Is it best to keep the ruck/fwd link (ie Roughy) and look to getting my top shelf mid next week?

cheers

Hi Rowsus

Can't complain as I'm on top of all my leagues but will anyway. Can't recall 3-4 weeks of carnage like this ever was sitting pretty with 7 trades and in Top 200 not long ago, now down to 3 trades $203K and 294 overall.I need to trade Goodes and sit on my 2 remaining trades to the finals. Already I have gone to Walker & Roughead via Stalker then both L&R Henderson and Mckenzie then clicked reverse on all of them.

D: Goddard,Heppell,Gibbs,Shaw,Goodes,Duffield (Clisby,Pittard)
M: Ablett, Swan,JPK,Pendles,Barlow,Jelwood,Griff,SJ(Mitchell,Crouch)
R: Goldy,Nicholls (Rowe,Mcbean)
F: Cox,JJK,Dusty,Nicnat,Rockliff,Staker (Buddy,Lee)

Idea is to move SJ forward in the finals for another premo mid but this weeks trade is doing my head in. I see you're a big wrap for LHendo but I'm leaning towards McKenzie with their run home. You thoughts would be appreciated

Well with Hanley out, it has made my choices a lot easier.
I now have to upgrade Goodes to a defender.
Who do you recommend besides the Cannon?
I'd be thinking the Cannon and SD Thompson are the 2 best Def's you don't have. The Cannon will be more consistent, and SD will give you a WOW now and then.

Yep, spot on about NicNat! News reports confirm he is gone, for at least a chunk of the remainder of the season. I will be mildly surprised if he plays again this season, so they can concentrate on getting him right for next season. I smelt him cooking 2 weeks ago, and stuck my fork into him last week! I traded him out to Henderson L.
The great thing for you is, now he is out, he won't drop in value!
I think you need to do Goodes to SDT or The Cannon, but given the strength of your League positions, I think I would sit on my hands after that. Look at the players you might want to upgrade to, and watch there B/E's. Use 2 or 3 more trades over the next 2 or 3 weeks for upgrades, and unless some teams in your Leagues have made significant improvements, you should be looking pretty good, barring bad luck.
Well done! :)

I think I'll go with the Cannon. Consistency is what my team needs at the moment.
Btw, thanks for that about Nic Nat last week. Glad I traded him out :)

I am a big wrap for LHendo, BUT....... at the time I made that trade I was hamstrung by cash restraints. I was also trading in a Fwd not a Def, and apart from liking him, I was creating a poor man's DPP link with Staker in my Def.
For teams in positions like yours, my top 3 replacement choices for Hanley/Goodes, in order are: McKenzie, Thompson SD, LHendo.
Good luck :)

This pretty much answers what I was going to ask you Rowsus.

My current DEF: Goddard, Shaw, Gibbs, Hanley*, McKenzie, Goodes* (Pittard, Webster)

I will bench Hanley and hopefully loophole Pittard and Webtser for the next couple of weeks until he is back but obviously looking to offload Goodes to a premium DEF. 4 trades and roughly $125K in the bank so can afford any DEF I want.

Having had a bit of a look at the options (during double RE today :)), Scott D Thompson is probably the way to go. Would you agree or suggest something different??

Given you already have the Cannon, I'd agree. :)

While your scoring may drop in the short term, it may not be as bad it looks.

Def: Goddard, Heppell, Hartlett, Gibbs, Shaw, Clisby (Hanley, Thurlow)
Mid: Ablett, Pendlebury, Swan, Selwood J, Priddis, Mundy, Fyfe, Mitchell T (Shuey, Bennedy)
Ruc: Minson, Nicholls (Blicavs, Currie)
Fwd: Walker, Cox, Martin, SJ, Riewoldt N, Staker (Franklin, NicNat)

So it looks like (for now!) you aren't facing a donut.
I'm going to assume you want to try and salvage some League pride, as it looks like your Ranking will slide a little, no matter what you do.
That being the case, it really comes down to how important it is you win this week and/or next week. If it's not that important, I'd say do nothing this week!
Looking at B/E's of your potential targets:
McKenzie - 92
Thompson SD - 104
Taylor - 119
Henderson L - 44
Petrie - 87
Harvey - 104
The only 2 you need to be careful of, if you like them as potential replacements, are Henderson and Petrie. The rest seem pretty safe to be about the same price.
That being the case, unless you really like the look of 1 of those 2, hold fire.
All 3 of your injured players are some sort of chance to return earlier than predicted. Burning a trade now may cost you later.
I think if you are hoping for some League glory, and your place is fairly secure, you need to go through some short term pain.
If you need to win this week, or next, you need to look at which replacement will give you the greater benefit.
In this case, of the players sitting at D6, M8, R2 and F6 Clisby appears to be the easiest score to improve upon. If you need to win this week, AND trading Hanley to McKenzie/Thompson SD/Henderson L might make all the difference, then make the trade. If it looks like it won't alter the result/s too much one way or the other, once again, hold fire.
Good luck :)

Hey Rowsus. Back again grovelling for more advice. Have 4 trades and $21,300. At a complete loss as to what trades I should be planning. Going for leagues now and currently safe in the top 4. My last two games could go either way - on paper I should win (even with a donut) but the opposition have those sides that are capable of pulling a freak score.

Current issues are Goodes (definitely needs to go), NicNat and Hanley (oh, and Bartel this week but I can cover him if Buddy plays). Out of those I would prefer to hold Hanley. NicNat could be a luxury trade come finals as I can bench him and play Nicholls for now.

Cheers

WC have actually done NicNat Coaches a favour by benching him. They get to consider their options without his price dropping further. Your idea of holding him and Hanley for now is spot on. No need to rush, no urgent need, so wait and see what happens. There are no great/viable options sitting on low B/E's that you need to get this week before their prices rise, so double bonus. Similarly, there are no option just out of your current Goodes + cash price range, that are sitting on big B/E's. So no use waiting on him, getting your best pick for him now is the best option.

I think your best, most viable options are: LHenderson, Taylor, Hibberd, Ibbotson, Adcock and Harbrow
As there really isn't a huge difference between them all, and you have some trades left, you are probably best served by who looks to give you best service in rounds 22 and 23.

LHenderson - Ess (MCG), Port (AAMI) - scored 106 and 110 against these 2 teams earlier in the season.
Taylor - Syd (SS), Bris (SS) - scored 125 and 80 against these 2 teams earlier in the season.
Hibberd - Carl (MCG), Rich (MCG) - scored 74 and 114 against these 2 teams earlier in the season.
Ibbotson - Port (PS), StK (ES) - scored DNP and 70 against these 2 teams earlier in the season.
Adcock - WBull (Gab), Geel (SS) - scored 60 and 71 against these 2 teams earlier in the season.
Harbrow - StK (ES), GWS (MS) - scored 93 and 76 against these 2 teams earlier in the season.

Hibberd's season seems to be declining, partly because he has been targeted by clubs in the 2nd half of the season. Ibbotson is averaging 20 less in away games this season than home games. His round 23 game is at Etihad, where he has played 14 games at an average of 64.8!!! Adcock would be a surprise to score big against Geelong at Simonds, his 2 games there averaged 75.
That leaves you LHenderson, Taylor and Harbrow. All 3 have arguments for and against. I would probably put them in that order.
Good luck :)

Thanks again for taking the time to provide such a thoughtful response. Was looking at either Hibberd or L Henderson. Hibberd is great value but can he regain his early season form? Still tossing up generating cash by bringing in Richards for the Staker DPP but not sure of the merit in this trade. It will provide a heap of cash for some final trades though.

Hey Rowsus

3 trades left + 31k

Thinking of going Watson > Douglas

Or should TMitch cover until Jobe's back?

I've also got Hanley but Staker as bench cover.

Hey Rowsus,

Who is the best forward (regardless of cost) to bring in out of Walker, Roughead, Riewoldt, Harvey and Martin?

RUC - Maric, Nicholls (Nic Nat, Currie)
FWD - Johnson, Rockliff, Martin, Franklin, Ryder, Cox (Staker, McBean)

Who is the better option to get a score out of Nicholls or Staker??
I could DPP Ryder to RUC bench, have a look at his score and also have Buddy EMG in the FWD line. If both score well then I replace them with my donut players. By going with this method it means I must play Staker on the field.

OR

I could go with what I have currently posted at the top of this post, and EMG one of Buddy or Ryder tonight and then if they score well play the donut in the FWDF line, otherwise Staker if they score poorly. This means Nicholls must play as R2.

Hope you can understand this, cheers.

Basically your asking which one of Nicholls, Ryder, Franklin and Staker will score lower.?..lol as someone needs to miss out.. Tough call
Probably put (E) on Franklin at this stage and (E) on Nicholls but keep Ryder forward.. If Nicholls scores crap I guess you can always move Cox to ruck but if you put Ryder in ruck you limit your options tomorrow as no more rucks could switch.
