As per previous seasons, I'll offer to do player's summary table (see D'Arcy Short below) when time permits.

Please post your players of interest and I'll collate the data and post their summary tables in the Useful Information thread in due course.

sorry Thanh they are not BBL 08 figures , Short played 15 games last season

EDIT: unless that is being used as a example , in which case I apologise and can I request Short's figures for BBL09 please ?

Anybody have an opinion on which two to pick out of Banton v Hales v Vince?
Currently have all 3 and would recommend starting all, as I'm assuming the majority will want to select P Salt in RD2 and by starting A Hales for his opening double this allows an easy trade to P Salt the following week, therefore mitigating the risk attached with A Hales and potentially maximising your RD1 score.

If you had to select 2 then I'd quite comfortably prefer J Vince and T Banton over A Hales.

@Connoisseur

interested on your thoughts on Salt ? I must confess I know very little about him apart from what I have read.

Wouldn't mind seeing him bat in Week 2 before deciding on getting him in for their back-to-back DWG and where he is batting in the order especially if Carey & Head miss out on the Test team (could end up anywhere between 1 - 4)

Will definitely be bringing in Rashid Khan.

Week 2 & 3 looks to be the week to bring in the Scorchers & Strikers players (or extra Sixers) , might need to try and start a Scorcher & Striker to give some more flexibility.

Highly dependent on what other players you have. I’ve opted for Banton + Hales just because I don’t want too many Sixers players.

I got sucked in last season into taking too many from the Scorchers and other dgr team for rd1 and it took a little while to rectify the issues I caused myself. Of course if you nail them it doesn’t really matter.

Phil Salt was unfortunate not to get picked up as a local icon, and his exceptional fielding and ability to fill in as an occasional wicketkeeper will count in his favour. He bashes both pace (SR 171.2) and spin (SR 146.3) in the Blast - although his struggles in the PSL hint at a potential weakness against top-quality spin - and will add to his T20 experience in the Big Bash this winter. He should be snapped up early.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/27583842/strikers-add-phil-salt-spice-their-top-order
The right-handed opener has had an outstanding T20 Blast season for Sussex under the guidance of Jason Gillespie, the coach at Sussex and Strikers. He has scored 406 runs in 13 innings, including four half-centuries, at a phenomenal strike rate of 161.11.
Salt has been playing alongside Strikers keeper Alex Carey at Sussex this year and has also played with Rashid.
The Strikers' top-order batting struggled big time last season after being the cornerstone of their title win in BBL 07, and Gillespie was delighted to add a dynamic right-hander to compliment the bevy of left-handers in the top order. "We are incredibly excited to have signed Phil who has showed real signs of promise and has performed well for the Sharks in the Blast," Gillespie said.
"He's beyond excited to get started, obviously we have Carey over here in England and Phil has been chatting to him non-stop about how it's going to work, when he can come out to Adelaide and meet everyone and get stuck in."

I have a penchant for selecting internationals and with his affordable price, upcoming doubles and potential to open the batting in conjunction with historically boasting a high strike rate are all enticing aspects to the selection. Also selecting him in RD2 allows additional players from the Scorchers, Sixers and Strikers dependent on their opening form, etc.

Cheers for that , Dizzy obviously rates him highly.

Over priced for what I was hoping for.

Have a memory of a lot of English batsmen coming out here though and not living up to standards in the Big Bash.

Hasn't played for England yet so not sure.

Don't know whether they will break up the Carey & Weatherald combo and think Head's best spot is at 3.

On the watch list though and could be worth it.

Cheers

Wish he was in the $65,000 to $95,000 range, as those type of internationals are typically priced. Cash generation will be intriguing this season as we will likely be devoid of any international players below $100,000.

Totally agree was expecting him & Banton < $ 100,000.00.

Expect if the Scorchers do sign Livingstone he will be $ 125 k as well and Pooran will be higher again.

Cash generation from my bench last season was a big issue for me , so hopefully I have learnt my lesson.

Could be some cheapish bowling options from the Heat , Hurricanes and Scorchers (maybe) that present.

Forget everything you know about SuperCoach — and cricket for that matter — because SuperCoach BBL is a different beast.
The single biggest key isn’t necessarily picking the best players, it’s working the schedule to your advantage. For example, the stop-start nature of the BBL draw means teams often play twice in a particular SuperCoach round — and scores from BOTH games count for SuperCoach.

It doesn’t take Pythagoras to work out that a player who plays two games is likely to outscore a player who plays one. The team to target from round one this season is the Sydney Sixers, who have two doubles in the first three rounds and don’t have a bye until round nine. This means the Sixers play FIVE games in the first three rounds when most other sides play just three times.
The Heat and Thunder are also key teams to target because they have the double in round one. But don’t go too hard because they have byes soon afterwards in rounds three and four respectively.

Tom Sangster's has picked his SuperCoach BBL side.
BATSMEN
Usman Khawaja ($198,500) Thunder

This selection hinges on whether he is recalled to the Test side, but Khawaja has an incredible Big Bash record. He averages 49.60 over his domestic T20 career and plays twice in round one.
Chris Lynn ($173,000) Heat
One of the biggest T20 stars in the world, but starts as just the 20th most expensive player after a down season (player prices are based almost solely on last season’s stats). Double in round one and likely captain.
Aaron Finch ($167,000) Renegades
Like Lynn, Finch is one of the most in-demand T20 players in the world. And also like Lynn, Finch starts cheap following a horror run of form last season (he’s the 25th most expensive player).
Tom Banton ($125,000) Heat
Dubbed the next Kevin Pietersen, Banton is the reigning England Young Cricketer of the Year. Starts at a price point well below his UK stats (he averaged 42.2 at a strike rate of 161.5 in the Vitality Blast) and has the double in round one.

Matthew Gilkes ($96,700) Thunder
NSW types are extremely keen on this 20-year-old, who has a very convenient double in round one. Gilkes recently made a near Test-strength Marsh Cup team for the Blues.
Ollie Davies ($42,000) Thunder
Currently carving up the Sydney grade scene. Smashed 17 sixes in an innings at last year’s under-19 championships.
Caleb Jewell ($67,300) Hurricanes
With Matthew Wade on Test duty, Jewell is set to open the batting for the Hurricanes alongside D’Arcy Short. Doesn’t double up until round 12 but any player opening the batting at near-base price must be considered.

WICKETKEEPERS
Josh Philippe ($123,000) Sixers

Must have. One of the brightest young talents in the country and has a juicy schedule to match (five games in the first three rounds).
Harry Nielsen ($75,400) Strikers
Has a bye in the first round but I’m picking him anyway as a long-term money-maker. Will be important for his doubles in rounds three and four and his 79 off 49 balls for the PM’s XI last week was class.

BOWLERS
Tom Curran ($210,000) Sixers

Bowls at the death (plenty of wickets), bats better than most (averages 20 in T20s) and has a dream schedule.
Sean Abbott ($195,300) Sixers
Schedule is again an obvious attraction, but the all-rounder offers far more than that, having taken the second most wickets of any player in Big Bash history. Also overdue for some runs at this level.
Mitchell Marsh ($179,700) Scorchers
He’s a bust if he retains his Test spot, but all-rounders are crucial to SuperCoach and Marsh is one of the best in the competition, at a handy price. I’m also planning ahead to his double in round three.
Glenn Maxwell ($175,100) Stars
Approximately $100,000 cheaper than the most expensive players Marcus Stoinis and D’Arcy Short, despite a better pedigree in T20 cricket.
Joel Paris ($81,000) Scorchers
The West Australian paceman’s numbers are insane, averaging 21.7 in first-class cricket and 22.89 in List A. Hopefully he can stay fit because he has a huge opportunity in a Scorchers side missing Nathan Coulter-Nile (Stars) and Jason Behrendorff (injured).
Cameron Green ($42,000) Scorchers
Like Paris, Green has a huge opportunity at the depleted Scorchers. It all adds up for Green: He stands more than 200cm, bowls 140km/h, averages 20.70 with the ball, bats as high as No.7 for Western Australia and starts at base price. Must-have if named for round one.
Will Sutherland ($42,000) Renegades
Very popular rookie pick last season before going down with stress fractures. Building back to form in the Marsh Cup with seven wickets and batting average of 30.5.

Where do we think Sams will bat for the Thunder this season?
Assuming full strength

Hales
Khawaja
Ferguson
Ross
Gilkes
Sams
Morris
Nair (could be changed for Sandhu pending conditions)
Green
Tremain
Cook

If no Khawaja, Gilkes shuffles up to open. Sangha slides into the middle order. Sangha won’t make their top XI I don’t believe.

I agree with others that the days of top 4/5 will be over. The bigger question will be who is the man to be promoted up the order to provide some fireworks. Morris has definitely put in some quality innings in that role which could mean he becomes that man over Sam's.

or IF Wade keeps his Test spot , they slot in Doran down the order and he keeps ?

I guess if they use Moody/Boland/Rogers/Summers to fill Archer's spot.

Jonny Bairstow comes to mind.

Short
Wade - Test Team ??? (Doran down)
Jewell
McDermott
Bailey
Milenko
Faulkner
Archer - to be replaced
Meredith
Qais
Freeman ?

Pat Brown's signing is to replace Steyn when he leaves.

In New Zealand currently with the England T20I Squad , so be interesting if he debuts during the series.

Banton , Curran & Vince also involved.
