Voss gone. Well, I can't say I didn't expect it, rant about it, or dislike it as a move by the Lions. The fact that he doesn't like 'Hanley running with the ball' kinda shows he isn't, should I say, wasn't a very good coach.
Long live the Lion King, the Lion King is dead!
Sneaky edit - it would appear Hird is in trouble. Seems this is a bad day for the 1996 Brownlow winners!
Just on his not liking Hanley running with the ball comment. I have heard more than one good Coach Express similar thoughts, about similar players. I heard Roos say it about one of his half-backs once. A journalist scoffed at him, and Roos explained that the players up the field were finding themselves out of position when he ran like he did. The ball was getting turned over as he took over half the available options out by running. The players reading the play 90-100 metres ahead were looking for a run and kick, not 3 bounces and a kick. He added, running and bouncing can be a good thing, but you have to know when it is your best option. I think Hanley is doing it, and running into dead ends and losing options up the field. He doesn't have enough experience yet to know when he should, and shouldn't do it. Which is exactly what Roos said of his player, until he learnt when to do it, it's best if he errs on the side of caution, and only do it when he's sure he will have options when he's using the ball.
On a side note, 3 times this year I've seen Hanley mess bounces up, and nearly lose the ball when he wasn't under pressure. That might have been a side thought in Voss' thinking.
I think we need to look at all sides of things, before being overly critical of better qualified people than ourselves. Or at the least, try and understand their meaning and point of view.
