Z Merrett v T Kelly (M6).

If I choose a cheaper ruck option, I can squeeze in another mid, would likely be between these two if I go that option.

Because I don't know how T Kelly will SC score at WCE, I personally would play safe with Z Merrett, who is pretty safe to score well.

Yeah was leaning to Merrett out of the two as well, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Kelly improves on his last two seasons this year.
Who would you go to as your cheaper ruck and what do you expect then to ave? If you give up Gawn at say 115 and go to a ruck that ave 80 is that any better than perhaps swapping Rowell who ave 70 for Zerrett who ave 105. The numbers are rubbery but even if down grading a Gawn to an 80 ave ruck gave you a 10pt mid advantage is that enough points to cover giving up a VC/C option (unlikely Zerrett is one) and the potential cost of trading up out of the cheap ruck at some stage.

Must admit I've got Zerret on my shortlist BUT will not compromise any other choices to grab him ... call it a last case resort ... not the worst choice but the one I'd take in that price bracket ...

I was trying to put together a side without Gawn in case he's not right to start the season off (hoping he is fine as I like to set and forget my rucks). You're right though, not sure the numbers stack up how I would like by starting a downgraded ruck. Possibly giving up 30-35 points in the ruck - can't guarantee making any more than that back with the players I was looking at, it would need other structural changes too.

Time for the next plan - lost track how many completely different team line ups I'm up to now. Probably not quite up to triple figures yet, but won't be long.

I can only give my experience with cheap rucks. In just about every case it has not worked. One of the best results was Blicavs who in 2015 was the weird DPP of R/M. Starting his third season at 371k ave 104 for the year got to an ave of 109 at one stage at went as high $586k. The other good one was Sandi who in 2014 started $310k and ave 107 for the season. Sandi was not that hard to take a punt on as he had some good scoring history but Blicavs was the classic quintessential POD. But most of the time for me it has ended badly.

And on hitting triple figures for different team set ups. One of the most interesting things I find is if you go back to the first team you put together and look at what you had in mind or what you were trying to achieve. I use Erichs Supercoach selector and keep all major variations of my teams. Going back to my first one or two teams shows me how far I have moved away from my original plans ands makes me think - is that a good thing or a bad thing? I use it to keep things in perspective like suddenly how the hell did I get that many speculative mids after swearing I would never do that again!

So true .... my current starting line up is so far from what I started with that I'm considering deleting it and going back to my original side .... and starting again ...

I just know that I will probably end up back with the current side (revolving door) .. sounds a bit weird but when I go through my notes the team will eventually end up the same ... so will just go with it and hope for the best ...

Could just go with the "status quo" side but I don't see any challenge / fun in that ... might as well find something else to occupy my time with !!

I can relate to that :)
I'm tempted from reading preseason info, like for expensive Guns, their high scoring may lower because of so many various reasons
and cheaper Mid Pricers scoring may rise highly because of so many various reasons. A bit like 'gold fever', I can make money, money, money

I like the fun in changing my side preseason, but maybe when the season starts, the fun should stop? Anyway, it's good trading that helps you win, not the starting team :)

I have minimal risk on all other picks but I’m toying with the following.

The new kids on the block/breakouts (Houston and Parish/Dawson) vs Zac Williams and Devon Smith

I'm not a huge fan of Williams, I thought he may be a good choice initially, but his scoring seems to have been boosted by injuries to others last year. Go for any of the other 3 along with Houston.

Yeo vs T. Kelly.

My first thoughts are that Kelly will lift his average a few points but that Yeo could really benefit from another strong inside player in there.

Anyone think that Yeo may lose points to Kelly instead?

EDIT: T.Kelly now at 14% ownership interestingly.

Unless its a role change for Yeo, quality midfielders can co exist, geelong and bulldogs are examples of this. An influencing factor is who gets the tag. Kelly tagged more than Yeo last year. Note Yeo tagged players himself (1-2)which could increase if Kelly

I prefer Kelly, think he has more upside than Yeo.

laird/caleb daniel vs lloyd/houston. which pair would you choose
Lloyd / Houston. I've been convinced over the last few weeks Houston is in for a good year - hopefully he is not like some I was convinced to pick last year.

Two defenders v 1 defender/1 likely mid. I'll take the one with midfield time.

Tricky one. Not sure about Laird this year. I think Smith has an impact on his scoring and Gibbs is playing half back this year as well, a role had played early in his career and ave 95. Daniel had a good 2019 but was it a spike or his new normal.

Lloyd may have had his scoring impacted by Dawson in 2019 but I think will still be a top 3-4 defender. Houston will get his chance in the mids and it is his to take.

Lloyd/Houston for me.
